In-game /latency shows 100+ So what is /latency calculating? Is it accurate? Is this how bad the client is for client to server relation?

The bolded part is really what I think is happening. The relation between server and client is so off we see double what our actual numbers are.

My bad, I read Austin in your op and figured you were in Texas as well as the severs. Tracer makes sense now😉.

My ESO traffic goes through the NE US first, as does all the EU server traffic. It's most likely the cause of most of the EU latency issues.

Edit: and I'm on the Kansas - Missouri border.

That sucks!! What EU Does all that hopping?!

Yeah... They need to open an oceanic server lol.. But I think it'd be dead

To be honest, 250-300 doesn't bother me. It can get annoying, rolling just out of an AoE and still being hit, but it's playable.

What's not *** playable is 350+, which is what I get if I don't have a VPN up, specifically because of Akamai's *** routing. Drop Akamai so our ping is back to the 250-300 it usually is, work on improving servers so it goes back to the 200-250 it was when I started playing (just before 1T), and I'm good.

I had an Overwatch match today where I had 80 ping (it probably put me in a west coast game) and it was borderline unplayable. I'm used to playing all my games at <40 ping. Now, ESO isn't a shooter, so playing with high ping isn't the end of the world, but it's still a *** experience.

Yes, shooters you can't play above 20 ping imo. MMOS maybe around 150-200 is the "oh man!!!"

I have a 100mb upload and download. The best I've gotten is like 150 but usually I'm roaming around 180/200 in Pakistan on the North American server. Which is okayish I suppose

My ping has dropped a good 20-30ms since the patch. I play in Australia on a VPN connecting to a San Jose node.

    I have 1 Gbit internet.

I average 120 ping in ESO, lol.

Speed has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with latency, except that it guarantees free bandwidth if you also wanna watch 4k Netflix or whatever while gaming. Otherwise a 1mbps will be just as good as a 1gbps as long as all else is the same.

Probably dome anti-DDOS protection that kicked in based on forum posters trying to ping the servers. The same thing happened with my tracrt this morning (see above) and I saw one to PC-EU in another thread that stopped at hop 15. Notice it's all akamai.

I voted on the basis of the ingame latency, but running a Ping on the PC EU server from the UK it was 25. The ingame latency is typically 60-80 for overland content. I also play on the PC NA server where the ingame latency is more like 160-180 although the overland performance feels the same, if anything some of the responses are a bit quicker. I can't Ping the NA server for some reason, it just times out with 100% packet loss although the game runs fine.

Picking up on a couple of points made earlier, I think it's the login/authentication server that is in NA when accessing the EU server in Germany, and I seem to recall that Akamai is only used with the NA servers (maybe that's why I can Ping the EU server but not the NA one). Can anyone confirm those points?

Poland, Europe, connection up to 15 Mbit cable (working on stable 7-8 Mbit).
Rare spikes to 999+ and slow texture download so while in big cities like Orsinium I have trouble and have to do occasional stops.

Edit: 100-150 was for PC EU. On PC NA I was getting about 300, which isn't so bad, considering the ocean in between :).

So I just redid my ping and tracer test because I realized I gave misinformation(stating I was in the 100 range when really that was my in game) and the results are interesting:
