HOW TO BECOME EMPEROR [Scalebreaker Edition]

Hello and welcome to the latest version of my guide to become the ruler of Cyrodiil and get the most prestigeous PvP achievement: Emperor!
[Updated for Scalebreaker DLC]
  1. Roll a new character. You want to do this in the below level50 campaign where you'll be more likely to fight inexperienced and inadequately geared players.
  2. Open the Crown Store and purchase the Undaunted, Psijic Order, Fighters Guild and Mages Guild skill lines (12k Crowns total). Maxing out the Undaunted skill line prior to level 50 is not possible by any other means. Maxing out the other skill lines is possible but you'll earn a lot of xp towards level50 that way, thus reducing the time you can play in the <lvl50 campaign. You now have a distinct advantage over players who can't afford to buy those skill lines!

Just FYI, apart from Undaunted you can max out the rest (Psijic Order, Fighters Guild and Mages Guild) with the addition of Werewolf too by level 15 easily without any skill purchase just playing the game... As of Undaunted, I personally haven't done it, but to my knowledge you can max out that by mid twenties.

I know. And I know a few people who actually do just that. But it's not something the average player you'll face in <50 PvP will do.

You can't do pledges until level 45 so the only way to gain Undaunted points are the delve dailies from Bogrul. Not sure if it's theoretically possible to do enough of them to max Undaunted before you hit lvl50 but even if it is it would take a year or so...

I don't think you can consider a person, who will purchase all those skill lines for 15k crowns, an average player either.

You get undaunted rep from the vanquisher achievement as well as slayer and a couple of others like dungeon damage Dispenser. You can level it prior to 45, I'm not sure if you level it to 9 before the experience gained from doing them would take your character level higher than the mid 20s though.

Look at all the horrible players running off to the crown store to spend $120 not realizing that those skill lines won't equate to instantly getting emperor... or even winning fights unless you were already a strong player anyway.

Or just do what everyone on Xbox is doing and roll a Bash build for a brainless and skill-free climb to the top. All emps in all alliances are currently bash builds.

Thanks Zos for giving us such a carefully thought out spec that you have obviously dedicated rigorous testing to. We appreciate your foresight and diligence. We are even more grateful for the lack of a patch to help ameliorate the impact of this fantastic addition to the game which allows complete trashcans to wipe out anyone they encounter with just the press of a button.

This, but you need a friendly team of people who clear the trash mobs to minimalize the xp you get. I've seen a lvl26 char in Vivec campaign with lvl9 undaunted passives so mid 20 it is, but don't know how low you can actually go if optimise all you can ;)

So while technically we still can't buy any combat advantage for Crowns that we can't achieve by playing, I still believe that ZOS just took another big step towards pay2win (if only in a niche scenario) :'(

If being able to afford more is somehow an unfair advantage, how is this any different than someone being able to afford more time to play?

    Time = Money = Time

Kids with the summer off, young adults with lots more flex time than working adults, and adults who are more well off and/or no family to take care of, etc, etc...list goes on.

Someone with 3x the amount of time to gain pvp experience is going to have more advantage than a wealthy new player who unlocks all these skills on his 2nd alt.

Advocating people shouldn't be able to buy these lines regardless of how is a separate topic - you can make a legit point that skill lines ought to be all grind, or vice versa that unlocks once earned with 1 char already is fine. These basic positions aren't justified by anything other than it should or shouldn't be allowed period.

But justifying why it shouldn't be allowed because of some affordability rationale is ridiculous. You'd have to enforce universal account time restrictions to lock people out after X amount of play because once again, time = money = time.

You can get Undaunted 9 on a level 19 character. Undaunted 10 is more trouble since you tend to run out of achievements to complete at that point, but it's still possible to get it pretty early (by level 24-26 if I remember correctly).

Still, considering what kind of stupid high stats you can get on a lowbie, having limited skill choices was a limiting factor, but now, not really anymore. Quite silly.

Please check my post for traces of sarcasm before you insult me.

Besides, I never denied that it is possible to max out FG, psijic and Mages Guild at < level 50. I also know about the "free FG points" place but I suspect that's an oversight and wasn't intended by the devs so I didn't mention it. Grinding FG by doing dolmens etc. would probably get you to ~lvl30. Apparently I was wrong about Undaunted as stated in my post above.

I'm totally aware that there has been a small "BwB/Kyne min-maxing community" for a long time but this isn't my point. I just wanted to point at ZOS getting dangerously close to selling p2w products in the Crown Store...

Undaunted the only one worth buying because it takes so darn long to grind. Pledges, the delve daily, and achievements that are not a guarentee in each run. The only people who can quickly grind Undaunted are those who can get no-death hard mode speed runs in the various dungeons.

Out of any of the Elder Scrolls games, did anyone by mistake ever turn on God Mode as soon as the game started, and totally come to regret it later? Video games are not fun when you don't have a challenge, and I am guessing that if someone spends this kind of cash to do conquer some newbs, they will seriously regret it. But, what are the changes of it giving that OP of a bonus?

Ultimately, I see it as more money going into the game, which is good for everyone.

I firmly believe that ZoS will eventually add a Crown Store option to simply buy the Emperor achievement at this point. Pay enough crowns and buy the Ruby Throne, so to speak. I guarantee that folks will buy that achievement, multiple times in fact. It's a strong business decision so I imagine we'll see it in due time. The people who quit over its addition would be quickly replaced by new players, all ripe for new horse upgrades and motif unlocks, so ZoS' profits won't take a hit.

Alternatively, a way to test pay to win of your idea, is that I could take my level 900+CP character with all of those same skills maxed and jump into the same campaign and should be able to stomp everyone in sight, but instead if I do try it, then I get destroyed, much the same way I did in the one dual I have ever been in when I faced a level 1 player (no visible CP) with my then level 200(ish) cp Stamblade, and got destroyed. Why did my higher level with my nearly maxed out skills not help me win? Because I sucked at PVP and still do. So because the game is not pay to win, that means that paying for the convenience of getting skills leveled faster will not help you win.
