The last weekend in Cyro...

So Buildbreaker drops Monday and with it so does my interest in playing. I had originally planned on consuming many fine adult recreationals and pvping until I couldn't figure out how to login after the server dc'd me.

But stupid adulting responsibilities scrubbed that plan, so now I'll probably just mess around a bit.

anybody else planning a grand send-off?

ESO, like all MMOs, goes through changes. Builds never last forever in this game. META shifts, new play styles emerge, then new counters to those play styles also emerge. It is the way of an arms race.

That being said, sometimes the shifting sands can get a bit frustrating with how hard gear acquisition can be. On top of just the time and dedication to perfect your builds play style. These things can make you a better player, or perhaps take a break to go play something else. Then see where things land on another update.

I would ask all those complaining about the changes that come with updates a couple of simple questions - would you not be among the first to complain if online games never evolved, skills and abilities never changed, your original gear was never replaced? Would you still be here if ESO was still playing exactly the same as in April 2014?

In much the same way left 4 dead 2 hasn't changed since its 2010 launch yet I still play it regularly, yes, i would still be here in eso if my builds from 2014 still worked the way they did back then.

Add new sets, create new builds. By all means. But don't break or force obsolescence on existing things.

Let people get bored of their build and decide to try something different for themselves in their own time. Coercing people with nerfs to skills and alterations to sets literally only has the effect of pissing people off and generating bad will.

Comparing L4D2 to ESO just doesn't seem like a balanced comparison. It's a FP shooter, isn't it? I think if ESO stayed the same for 5 years it would not be as interesting.

Theres no real need for it to binary, either no changes whatsoever or a lot at once. There's a lot of space in between. To answer the question, why would I complain? I still have lots to do. Finish the challengers in 4 person content, some vet trials, PvP, motifs that need collecting, fishing, new content when it comes out, who has time to get bored? If I need a change of pace I can always play a different character.

The choice of game doesn't matter, nice strawman! It's the point that it plays just the same now as it did then, and still I and thousands of others continue to play.

    Why?

    Because fun is fun.
Changing it up so drastically isn't fun for people who've invested huge amounts of time perfecting their build & playstyle just to have it unceremoniously stripped from them, forcing them to start over.

Making characters they've levelled, collected gear for, unlocked skills for, worked their asses off on just overnight become useless. That's not fun.

Nobody says the game itself should stay the same, as I said, add new skills, new sets, even add new content, just don't break what already exists on the way!

This is the never ending cycle, figure out the best in slot skills & gear, everyone starts doing it, people call for nerf, it gets nerfed, new best in slots are found, everyone does it, nerfs are called for, etc etc etc....

Separating PVE & PvP is the real answer. The answer that zos ignores.

    lol, not in my case.

non-gank bow/bow CC build. took almost two years, it's my main and it's fun af.

but with all the changes, it's pretty much burnt. so that, coupled with the mountain of other performance issues and Zos' seeming indifference to, well, everything, I'm out for a while.

Just increase the drop rate of upgrade mats. I would play a hell of a lot more if it wasnt such a nuisance to gold multiple sets of gear.

I play a lot of offline games more now thanks to the constant change. I can't even keep up with meta. My sorc still runs Mechanical/willpower do you know how long it has been since that was meta? Yeah I just don't have the time to put thousands of hours nor the drive to anymore to farm gear.

It always amazes me that there are people who have some sort of need to make grand announcements of their impending disappearance. I don't understand it. Is it a need for validation? Is it insecurity that they won't be missed?

I do not understand. Making some grand gesture, over something that has NOT yet happened, and we do NOT know what the actual effects - if Any - will be on gameplay, is IMHO .... Ridiculous.

For pve, no. That gets boring and needs the updates.
For pvp.... yes. After years I still play battlefield 1942. Nothing changes there also. Pvp itself, defending and attacking keeps is rewarding itself. That is why those games keep going.
In this case, ESO, did get the updates. And every update made pvp worse then April 2014. Procsets, poison, new skills, lag, performance issues, removal of torchbugs etc.. yeah, I would still play April 2014's version with my hybrid.

Changes are OK as long as they are justified and not just for the sake of changing crap around.

Ask Blizzard how it went with World of Warcraft and how many players they have left...

If it never changed in the first place, sure
used to just run around the Rift killing Sabre cats at V10 while listening to music on VLC

this is not to say the game has not improved,
simply that there would be no way for me to miss those improvements if they had never come
    JbSfvzT.gif

encountered this recently; played an extended time period sunk entirely into Fallout 76 and only logging in to ESO for daily rewards for a number of months
then came and poked my head back in here, got a reminder of how much this game had progressed since launch, and suddenly really felt the sparseness of Fallout 76 again
tho, perhaps, got a little hope that it will have a bunch to do with time itself

as a disclaimer tho, legal cannabis here in Canada and a 6 gram/day prescription from my doctor may be resulting in such clouding to short term memory that everything just always feels new and wonderful in the moment of playing anyway

    L4D2 is an intersting example,
years later, and still find the PvE content interesting -- something visceral and connecting of working with others to overcome the huge waves of zombies
Vermintide 2 also captures this feeling well as a melee-focused fantasy equivalent, but is not as old yet for me to really argue it will stand the test of time in a similar manner

you would have trouble getting me back into the PvP mode for L4D2 tho
there was an initial novelty to pouncing around as a Hunter or trying to hide for a perfect vomit as a Boomer
but their gameplay mechanics eventually started to feel old to me rather than being interesting to cycle through playing as enemy types
maybe it has appeal for some still

there's a history of them not really changing much once it's on PTS. which is also the only QC/QA the game gets, so most of us that are splitting aren't holding out alot of hope.

I didn't intend this to be an attention *** thing - mostly just a bit of fun, Irish wake style.

You guys that are sticking around, I hope the new roll-out knocks your socks off and cooks you breakfast in the morning!

Besides, me actually posting 'I'm leaving', means I'm bound by the natural laws of the internet to absolutely return and play again.
