Pets Blocking Progress

I'm sure this post has been made many times before and all but ZOS, please! You HAVE to do something about those careless pet sorcs and pet wardens!
Too many times have I gone to a crafting station or a writ drop-off crate only to find someone's stupid, annoying pet bear, winged twilight or clanfear sitting on top of the crate/station, rendering me unable to use it and actually blocking progress!

It's time, ZOS! It's time to either; put up some kind of invisible field around major cities, where people do their daily crafting, a field that would automatically dismiss the pets and prevent the players from summoning their stupid pets until they leave the city again!
OR
Put a timer on the bear and sorc pets! Just like you did with the necro's pets! I'm sick and tired of those jerks, who don't realise or care if they're standing in someone else's way!
And it's not enough to politely tell them to kindly remove their pet, because they either don't read the chat, OR THEY DON'T EVEN SPEAK ENGLISH!
You need to do something about this, ZOS! Right now!

Next update no Sorcerer is going to be using pets, so that will make life easier. But I agree it should be illegal to have summoned pets in town, they're just annoying.

It wouldn't have been to bad if ZOS had used the model for Inaria (the small twilight from the Grahtwood quest) rather than the huge twilight that takes up most of everyone's screen (caster and onlooker alike).

Yes to the first idea...I am a single pet sorc and I hate pets that get in the way in cities too, but sometimes one simply forgets to unsummon them. So an automatic dismiss would be great for everyone's sakes.

NO to the second idea. There are enough abilities that need frequent re-casting, without having to worry about pets too....especially if said pet is used for a main heal.

I have a matriarch sorc and two bear wardens. As a responsible pet owner, I dismiss them in town (Pet Dismiss add on makes this just about zero effort) - always. That said, I find I can usually reach things blocked by twilights by grabbing/accessing between wing flaps, lol. I find the bear to be a much bigger problem - if they are blocking something from access you are truly out of luck until the bear moves.

Some of the unobtrusive things ZOS could do to help are making twilights much smaller or landing when idle, lowering the population of instances by creating more of them (less players around you) and creating a one key 'dismiss all pets' like Pet Dismiss has to notably streamline the dismissing them from your character screen (and accidentally dismissing your food or other desirable buff sometimes). Another unobtrusive aid would be to make pets not block you (like other players do not block you).

The key is courteous players of course but, sadly, that does not describe all players.

I hate to see the game have to create some prohibition type mechanics to try and solve this. There are situations in town where combat is necessary so if an 'auto-dismiss in town' feature is looked, at a couple features should be an in combat override and dropping the cast delay to summon pets. A dual pet magsorc for example devotes 4 of 10 slots to their pets so the whole character really is built around having those pets up in combat.

This is what, the 3rd recent thread covering this exact same topic? It doesnt even say anything new we didnt discuss to death the first 2 times.

    In my experience:

During the Anniversary Event when everyone and their mother was doing crafting writs, I did mine at Vivec and Alinor, two busy locations.

For those two weeks, every time there was a pet in the way, I took at most 3 steps to the side and could access the station/turn in box.

The NPC that ZOS stuck in the middle of Vivec's turn in boxes was more annoying.

I have yet to have a pet actually block me from accessing a crafting station or quest NPC in a way that I couldn't simply move around a little bit in order to gain access. I don't know if I'm just lucky...but I doubt it.

I presume that was directed at ZOS? As much as I would like to oblige you, sadly that is beyond my powers.

It also depends on which abilities ZOS consider to be pets. My Necro would like her Skeletal Mage to be permanent too, but clearly ZOS don't agree with me any more than they agree with you and your Shade being permanent.

Or give out a Memento that dismisses all pets and assistants. The convenience of a quickslottable item should help. If not, then more drastic measures might need to be taken against selfish people.

As long as duels are allowed in city, (are they still?) then they should have access to combat pets in city. Just snot around buildings and quartermaster locations.

However, I was quite annoyed this morning when someone had some big summoned pet blocking the door to the Craglorn Enchanting craft building. Fortunately, that building has a back door,

Just use your guild hall's or your home's crafting stations for your writs and stuff if it bothers you so much. Faster then asking anything from Zos and no new bugs because of it!

It is what I do, plus everything is completed quicker :)

Your wish is granted! All pets disappear. People now ride giant loud thunderclap flaming sparkle rainbow mounts on top of turn in locations, quest givers, and out door bankers (Vivec City anyone).

Please make my bear bigger and return the 30% of damage you took away Zos.

Ideally I'd like to see sorc's and warden's get the necro treatment and dueling done away with in towns. There should be arenas for that. Or they could just fix the pathing on the damn things so they can't stand directly on interactable objects and NPC's. Seems like there's a plethora of fixes that could end this inconsiderate behavior.

Also isn't there a potential problem with the warden's bear being dismissed (haven't played warden in forever so forgive me)? Isn't the bear an ultimate so may not be a simple recast?

This feels like we are trying to legislate manners and consideration; some people just don't care. Look at the duelers in crafting stations like Alinor. Or the people that have to open their inventory or look at maps without stepping away from the questgivers. ZOS has bigger issues to solve atm.

Could you please try to be more ignorant, i'd like to see how far you can take that thought.
    rolleyes.gif
I'm not sure the person was trying to be ignorant so much as this is an English speaking server as described by the owners in the beginning and that irritated him that they don't comply with his interpretation of what that means. My son is stationed in EU and hates to play on the EU server because of the many different languages makes it difficult to interact with the community. After all, the story of the Tower of Babel has a point. If people can't communicate, they can't accomplish anything or learn to get along.
Failing to understand that there is more than one point of view causes so much trouble and leads to less than savory words and deeds towards others.
Lastly, living in a highly multicultural location has proven to me that some people do in fact pretend not to know a language in order to avoid responsibility for their actions while others don't know the language and/or the culture and don't realize they are being offensive.
You are confusing these forums with the actual game.

I speak 3 languages, i have family in several countries around the world and even more friends in yet more countries.
It might come as a surprise to you but not everyone speaks English.

Complaining about someone in a global (!) MMO who doesn't speak English says more about the person complaining than about the person who doesn't speak the language.

    No.
Bear cost 0 to summon, only the bear special atk cost ult.
But like I said before you post this, bear and other pet are also a problem in DG/Trial too, so instead of unsummon them, it would be better for player who don't want to see them to get an option to turn them off.

I have a matriarch sorc and two bear wardens. As a responsible pet owner, I dismiss them in town (Pet Dismiss add on makes this just about zero effort)

That should be a base game feature. There are way too many things pertaining to pets that are either hidden or plain impossible without addons.

    - Pet HP monitoring. That should be the most basic feature of all, knowing how much HP your pets have left. There are addons for that, but any game with pets should have it as a base interface element.
    - Pet dismiss button. Just next to the pet HP bar, simple enough. Most games have it already.
    - Attack commands. You can force your pet to attack a given target IF you heavy attack it. But you can't just send your pet on a given target prior to attacking it. That's quite silly.

That's just what comes to mind without even thinking, I'm sure there's plenty more.

Its the 3rd thread in less than that many weeks saying the exact same thing. Sorry, my empathy bucket is about dry - I spent most of it on the first two threads.

    So I'll be blunt.

We humans disproportionately remember bad experiences. We forget the good ones or times when nothing happened. That's just how we humans work. That's the reason I said I paid attention to pets blocking progress for 2 weeks, the 2 busiest crafting weeks of the year on multiple characters in busy locations.

These threads attract a preponderance if horroe stories from people who have bad experiences with pets.

But, crucially, that's not actually evidence that those experiences are common to all players. (Rather it is evidence that its a common experience to the forum posters who self select to comment on a complaint thread about pets, go figure.)

I went into the Anniversary Event expecting to see pets block my progress severely. After all, its talked a lot about on the forums, so I should see it, right?

I was surprised when the pets were minor annoyances. Maybe I was lucky. I'll have to continue the experiment next year, and maybe more people will join me.

If I were to conclude anything from my experiment, it would be:
    1. Even if pets rarely block progress partially, and presumably complete blockage is even rarer...ZOS still needs to fix the pet AI. Pets blocking progress is bad AI and bad for gameplay.

    2. I'd want more data to determine if I were truly lucky, but pets blocking progress in busy crafting areas did not occur for me anywhere near as often as forum horror stories would lead me to believe, even during the busiest crafting weeks of the year over time. That was a very unexpected result for me - I expected much worse judging by the forums.

Again, sorry if that seems unempathetic. I'd challenge anyone wanting to really make a difference on the "Pets Blocking Progress" issue to do what I did: make a record over time of how often you experience pets blocking progress vs how often you don't.

Do you craft daily writs? Write it down how often you have to move over to get at a crafting station or writ turn in box.
Me: 3 partial blockages in 2 weeks, 9 characters daily, Vivec and Alinor.

Pets blocking your banker or a regular questgiver? Keep track of your visits, marking how many partial or conplete blockages you get out of total visits.

That's the sort of data that really helps ZOS see "Hey, this is really a daily/weekly/monthly/once in a blue moon problem for players and we should get on with fixing this!"
