SirAxen✭✭✭✭✭Nah, the way it is looks way better than that. The Elder Scrolls version looks like something that believably exist within the fantasy universe it resides in. That tower there looks like it was put in the game to be flashy for being flashy sake. Then again, such is Final Fantasy in a nutshell. except it was built entirely from a crystal substance that exists in massive quantities, so it's not really 'flashy' in the ffxiv universe0 -

✭✭✭✭✭For what it's worth the last time the Crystal Tower appeared in a game it looked like this:
That was in Arena, the first TES game released so there was no previous lore for them to follow or ignore, they could literally do whatever they wanted and since it was all pixel art it was easier than at almost any time since then for them to make it look however they wanted. (You don't get the same effect of course, but it is simpler to draw a static image of a tower which looks like it's made of crystal than to 3D model one with all the proper reflections etc.)
As other people have said it's called the Crystal Tower because it houses the crystal Heart of Transparent Law (which, on a related note, is not transparent), also called Crystal-Like-Law one of the most important artefacts in Nirn. (Although if I've understood correctly there's still some debate - both in universe and among TES fans - about the importance of the Stones vs. the Towers vs. the interaction between each Tower and it's Stone.)
