Should I Postpone Coming Back?

I was playing during the PTS of the first way of sweeping changes. Those only turned one of my chars upside down-my nb. Also, my pve dmg on one of my chars was down by about 6k (my pve ww).

So I decided to take a break.

I saw these changes and even tho they turn 7 of my chars upside down, I still want to play.

However, the next balance pass is meant to be passives which I imagine will turn even more of my chars upside down which will make the sets and changes I plan to make for the second round irrelevant. Wasting my time and gold, each of which is limited for the game, making these changes and for what?

This is suppose to be play the way you want but all I can see is they change everything radically which ofc changes little in the grand scheme of these things (just more meta hopping), and forces me to change everything for what they want (adapt to swallow a pill twice the size of my head or die).

Not only at this point am I wondering should I come back now, but rather ever.

What happens when this year of balance changes wasn't right for the devs and now they need to do 4 rounds of sweeping changes in order to fix those.

What happens when they decide to change all my sets because they don't fit their desires, or when people are dying too fast in PvP so they come out with Major Carry (which maxes out your resistances and doubles your dmg done to anyone).

I just don't know what I should do at this point in the game. I play and make builds for the long term (1 yr) and now nothing is making it past 3 months and nothing is better bc of it.

Ps. XBOX ONE player since launch, ESO plus since launch, and PC PTS tester.

The meta changes every update. So if you want your builds to be meta or at least not need to change for a year, that's very unlikely to happen. Its all very short term.

If you want to build for the long term, I suggest you don't chase the meta. Find a build that's solid for the content you like to run, accept that you won't be meta, and just have fun playing the content you like.

I would hop on now and start doing activities to farm gold and doing stuff like vMA, vDSA, etc. to farm weapons that look like they have potential to be strong with the patch. Don’t spend any gold upgrading your gear and don’t buy anything at the traders. By the time the patch does come around you will be prepared to min-max your character to your hearts desire.

Also this patch has some of the biggest balance changes in ESO’s history. Changes in future patches are likely to be much less extreme and probably won’t affect your build as much as this one.

They will have to break the game in next 2 updates, but I think that update that comes in spring should really change the game in a really good way. Like, truly play the way you want way.

This is suppose to be play the way you want...

This is a concept that a lot of people look at, and seem to walk away with the wrong impression.

"Play how you want," does not mean all options are viable, or that you can do whatever you want without having to learn. It means you have a lot of freedom on the content you play. There's no forced, "you must play PvP to level through this," or, "you must play dungeon content."

If you want to play a Templar DPS, for example, you can do that. But, that doesn't mean you can do absolutely whatever, and will succeed. There is skill involved in putting together, and updating, your build.

With that said, roll with the changes. The upside of the updates is, there's always things you can do to keep working on your build, but at the same time, even when you get nerfed, you're still viable. Yeah, you might lose some DPS, but it's almost always something you can recover from.

I'll take that over a game that flat out invalidates your gear every six months.

That said, if you're on the fence about coming back, I'd strongly suggest waiting for this update to hit live. There's some stuff in the current state of the game, with animation desyncs, that really hurts the experience in difficult to identify ways. The PTS feels really good, though.

Nope. Don't come back until after the update goes live. Even then. Take it with a grain of salt. This is the only MMO I have played that makes this many radical changes in such a short time. Every patch drastically changes classes whether for good or ill. And it doesn't seem to be changing anytime soon. I know mmos change and evolve. But this and the last couple of updates have been way too much.

Anyways. Like I said. Wait until the update goes live. Try it out and if it isn't to your liking? Ride on out. That's what I'm doing. I can't deal with this constant changing from one extreme to another every three months.

Not to be rude, but if you're hitting 6k the balance changes in the game that affect your DPS slightly are the LEAST of your concerns - unless you're talking PVP. (Just adding, not to be rude, but there is a lot of room for you to grow, like a LOT, regardless of any PTS changes)

The meta has changed, quite a lot, this patch. Most people are just upset at the idea that they will need to play the game in a marginally different way from before now.

His PVE damage dropped by 6k, not was 6k or dropped to 6k DPS. Without that poster stating their starting DPS, there's no way to know how big or small of an impact that is.

It depends on your in game activities really. If you aren't interested in trials or PvP and you don't plan on making a healer, now's as good a time as any to get back into it.

    Problems with PvP:
They've introduced God mode that makes it very easy for one faction to 'win' and makes it very hard for the other factions to compete. The lag/latency, desynchs, and crashes in Cyrodiil seem to get more pronounced with each patch (or maybe I'm just more and more intolerant), making Cyrodiil a place to be frustrated rather than a place to maybe relieve some stress lol.

    Problems with trials:
With every single update lately, they break something random in trials and it takes several months for them to get around to actually fixing stuff.

    Healer:
If you main a healer, what can I say but stay far away? Every major update, especially this one, makes the healer role less desirable to have around -- if DPS can self sustain/survive, the groups will always prefer the faster clears over the safer ones. (Faster clears meaning replacing the healer spot(s) with DPS.)

With the way performance is looking, both pve and pvp, alongside some of the 5.1.0 unjustified nerfs, I'd say yes. If these changes go live I'll be taking a break from the game and will come back when they've got things better figured out. Can't express enough how aggravating it is to die to enemies that have not rendered in yet lol.

I'm just taking a step back from trying to be competitive, So many things about to be "turned upside down"
Its worrying that ZOS insist on balancing with a sledge hammer all the time.
I used to love playing my Magwarden but as all classes have - its been homogenised and butchered and striped of identity.
idk if you should come back its really up to you, the game dose have a lot of really good things but class uniqueness isn't there anymore. just jump on anything as long as its a Khajiit you'll be sound.

Sweeping changes like this, to me, look like the first steps in a plan. If there's a plan, it's a good time finally to be here.
