Mend Wounds - rework this skill to compensate for the changes made to Grand Healing / Necrotic Orb

We all know that there will be some major changes to several healing abilities coming in U23. I don't want to discuss this here as there are already enough threads for it.

The point is, several classes besides Warden, Templar and Necromancer need a new "spammable" healing skill that compensates for the loss of placing multiple Grand Healing / Energy Orb instances to keep your group alive. This new spammable could be Mend Wounds. This skill, before the changes in Elsweyr, was quite good as its Light Attack (LA) gave a strong single target healing over time (ST HoT) and the Heavy Attack (HA) was quite a strong single target channeled heal. After the changes made in Elsweyr this skill has become useless because the amount it's healing for is pitiful for both, LA and HA.

As Mend Wounds is easily accessible for every class this should be the skill that acts as a (semi-)replacement for the Grand Healing / Energy Orb "healing spam" we've had until U23. How do I imagine this? Well, there are several ways you could make Mend Wounds useful again, my two suggestions for the skill are:

- Light Attack: just revamp the changes made to this in Elsweyr and turn it back into the potent ST HoT it was before, maybe with an increased duration to 15-20s

- Heavy Attack: keep the channeled ST heal as it is now, increase the healing per tick by up to 50% and add a "splash" heal to it, e.g. all allies within 5-10m around the focused target get healed for 66% of the ST heal per second

Why my suggestions: there is a new focus on HoT healing coming in U23, that's why the change to the LA to become the HoT again makes sense in my eyes and fits into their new healing narrative. Constantly LA your allies to heal them for such a small amount was a pain due to targeting. Once every 15s isn't a huge problem or chore at all. After losing the potent AoE healing from placing several instances of Grand Healing, there should be another source of AoE healing. I choose to make the HA centric around the focused target as it basically acts exactly as Grand Healing when you placed it around the tank / group. The ST heal should always be stronger to have some kind of channeled burst heal that some classes are lacking in their toolkit. The splash AoE healing should just be enough compensate the loss of Grand Healing. It can be capped at 3-6 targets and act like an intelligent heal, benefitting the most wounded allies around the MT.

Another thing: please finally make Mend Wounds interact with sets that buff Light & Heavy Attacks, there's no point why the skill is not interacting with most (or all?) passives or bonuses that are bound to LA/HA.

So, what do you think? Do you have other suggestions how Mend Wounds can be made useful (again)?

I think it should be a toggle instead of a cast skill.

It is a toggle you switch on which replaces your weapon attacks with Healing abilities.

I mean players mustn’t support my suggestions but I’d love to see some more ideas brought up by players how to improve Mend Wounds especially in the light of the Grand Healing / Orb changes.

Dear @ZOS_GinaBruno @ZOS_BrianWheeler are you considering changes/buffs to this skill in an upcoming U23 PTS iteration to tackle the rising problems with healing or will this skill stay useless as it is now for both PvE and PvP?

    Agreed.

Especially the part about light attack/heavy attack buffs from sets, skills, etc.

Strongly disagree. You can't have the main AoE spammable heal be a free cost skill. Mend Wounds is also extremely clunky to use, and has terrible targeting. They would need to completely rework this skill into a standard spell, instead of a buff that changes light, and heavy attack functionality.

It heals for basically nothing, must be channeled and has a lower AoE healing output - I mean you can adjust it but I don’t see a big problem here. Healing Springs wasn‘t that much different expect having a bigger radius and costing Magicka (still very cheap). But I see the problem it might cause in PvP. Yet the targeting is another kind of punishing Mend Wounds has build into...

They should at least make it smart-target and allow it to target the caster. Aiming at friendly characters is really difficult, you can't even tab target them.
