Soul Trap almost certainly needs some changes (for PvP).

It's a strong DOT now, can be utilized by both Magicka and Stamina builds, and one of the morphs will apply it to 3 targets at once (within a 5m radius of the original target). This all comes together to create a bit of a potential nightmare in Battlegrounds: one team of 4 players that are all running this skill can apply a total of 12 copies of the DOT with only 1 global cooldown each - that's a pretty crazy amount of pressure damage for such a small investment.

Perhaps the baseline skill should only apply the DOT to one target, and that morph effect should be changed to something else? I'm glad to see non-DK Magicka builds finally getting some DOT options, but I'm wary about being able to apply so many in only 1 GCD, especially since literally every build in the game has access to the skill.

Is it really any different than stacking DoTs from multiple DKs in a BG group? I don't see the issue since the solution to what you've posted and what I described is the same - Purge. Either run a purge effect yourself or add another HoT to your setup. Don't forget single-target heals (Regeneration) are getting a major buff this patch - they will offset these DoTs quite a bit!

Single target hots got buffed to counter single target dots. Everything is still balanced.

This set should probably get nerfed, but I like the developers intention of adding another viable DoT to the game.

Templars can do the same thing with Reflective Light, but I don't see the situation you are describing happening in live with Magicka Templar groups spamming it.

I would like to see some actual testing of this though.

Large groups in pvp will just purge and laugh. Dots will probably only be as effective in small scale. Huge fights will still be about direct damage aoe.

Since Entropy hits more than one target, why is entropy exempted from the AOE "33% less" rule?

Since it hits more than one target, will major evasion reduce the damage by 25%?

Basically the 5pc takes a 2K per second DOT and makes it 4K per second. Is an extra 2K DPS really overpowered for a 5pc set especially after that bonus damage gets cut to 1K DPS after Battle Spirit?

A while back some of us were joking about running a meme group with Soul Trap and sending players their soul gem in the mail.

    Then this. :o

Just to get the numbers right...this is a nearly 6kDPS DoT in full buffed single-target PvE-Fight. Definitely one of the strongest dots for me when i quickly tested yesterday.

How often do you have 4 DKs hitting you + 2 of your teammates with their breath attack at the exact same time? That's what will be possible with Soul Trap, and it will be done without needing a melee-range cone.

Also, I can't remember the last time that I saw Efficient Purge used in BGs. It's pretty cost prohibitive, especially for players that are solo queueing. And when you factor in the possibility of all 8 of your opponents running Soul Trap, and frequently applying 2-3 copies of it per cast, plus all the other DOTs and debuffs going around, Purge will get overwhelmed very quickly.

It doesn't happen very often with Magicka Templars because you aren't normally fighting against teams of 4 of them (especially not with both enemy teams being 100% Magicka Templars at the same time). If every single class in the game, including Stamina builds, had access to Reflective Light, I'd expect that we'd see it flying around more often.

Agreed 100%, which is the reason I made this thread. I sort of think it shouldn't be able to function as yet another bleed for stamina builds, but my main issue with the current iteration is the multi-target aspect.

Soul Trap has fairly decent damage if used in a "DOT build" - which I think may very well be the only viable way to play Magicka Necromancer if we don't see some other big changes this PTS cycle - but I don't think it should be something that can be spread around so quickly and easily, since literally everyone has access to it. Personally, I think they should make the baseline skill + morphs all affect a single target, and add some other sort of utility to Soul Spitting Trap.

If your raid group can't handle Soul Trap only affecting 1 target instead of 2 or 3, you've got much bigger problems.
