How Dramatic Changes Turn Me Away From the Game

The newest PTS cycle introduces huge changes to the game. While I do not agree with the majority of the changes themselves, they represent a bigger problem: shifting metas with no direction.

First let me get this out of the way, “meta” will never go away completely. Players will always find what performs best, and utilize as much of it as they can. Nerfing one class or set of skills just makes another rise to the top. We have seen this in recent patches, the meta shifted top tier raids from 8 NB groups to 7-8 stam necro groups.

The newest changes have nerfed more than just 1 specific class, they’ve nerfed AOE DOTS all across the board. Why? I don’t see how this change is at all necessary. This change is especially confusing because some AOE DOTS were just recently buffed. For example, the Blazing Spear and Solar Barrage abilities have been buffed in recent patches. However, this patch they’ve nerfed both of these abilities. If the goal is overall lower DPS then why were light attacks buffed in Summerset? Change is not necessarily bad, but it needs direction. Currently certain skills are getting buffed in one patch and then getting nerfed in the next patch. These changes need to go in one direction and they need to stay in that direction.

The general trend of the game in recent patches has been to increase DPS output. It seems that you have made content around the concept of high DPS (dragons will 100 mil+ HP and so on). You’ve even made the speed run achievements require high amounts of DPS. Since this patch has gone the opposite direction, there is content that will be too hard for average groups. I understand that certain old content became too easy with the increase in DPS, but the solution is to buff the old content instead of nerfing the core game.

So why does this turn me away from the game? The game feels like endless tail chasing. I level up new characters, farm new sets, learn new rotations/ classes, just to find out that it will no longer be viable soon. I’m left with the question: what’s the point? By the time I farm out the newest set, it’s nearly obsolete. For example I’ve spent countless hours farming Lokkestiiz just to see it indirectly nerfed with the orb change. I don’t feel right raiding with out of date set ups. I want to spend more time enjoying content, and less time mindlessly farming. I’ve recently been trying to learn how to heal, just to see it get changed dramatically In one patch. This throws everything I learned out of the window. It all just seems like a waste of time. I’ll most likely quit PVE next patch due to this constant lack of direction. I hope that the developers can get it together.

TLDR: The Meta shifts too dramatically too frequently and without good reason. I want to be able to enjoy content with the best set up, without spending countless hours farming every patch.
