Sets like Hundings and Julianos are good. Comparing them to trial sets is an empty comparison since trial sets are intended to be run with another set. Further, trial sets are not as good when outside of a trial or dungeon as you lose one set bonus by design unless Zos changed that.

Further, unless you are trying to be one of the top dps on the server, running with competitive raid guilds, the small difference is inconsequential.

How do you guys not know???!? Caldwell's favorite is the most op set in the game. I started running that at patch drop.

I can hear the group calls that were filled with excitement.

Dude, I got Honor. Did you get Honor? Quick everyone get Honor. Best set in the game period... Change my mind
    Lol

cant tell if serious but i hate seeing set used in a dungeon. really shows the healer is terrible.

My new lvl 40 necro is running 7 piece Julianos (1 heavy, 1 medium, 5 light) along with 4 Magnus (3 jewelry and 1 staff). All are crafted and seem to work just fine.
Replace two of those Julianos pieces with something else; a set gives its bonus at five pieces, not seven. I would suggest 5 Julianos pieces (armor), 5 Magnus pieces (2 staffs and 3 jewelry), and then the last two armor pieces whatever set you want the 2-piece bonus from. This way you have two full sets as well as a bonus from a third.

Well, every class and build can benefit from the crafted sets in different ways. Some styles of gameplay you’ll find some sets are great for while some not. Honestly, I find many of the sets to be very useful for all my play-styles. I like crafting in this game better than most other games I’ve played where the juice is never worth the squeeze.

Where did you lose minor slayer? In overland? Well, i don't see any application for this if person doesn't go for some solo-WB-without-adds hunting. In overland VO/false god is a dream since they provide virtually endless resources and major expedition. So I highly doubt Hundings/Julianos are good for anything other then newbies/lvling chars (in PVE).

I only seen a few crafted Sets yet, and the ones I found looked a bit underwhelming compared to dungeon or Trail Sets, even those that need alot of traits researched…

Are there any crafted sets that can hold their own compared to droped sets?

I think so. The crafted sets on this game are pretty good depending on what you are after. Fortified Brass and Twice Born Star for examples are two sets I often use.

This game has a good crafting system generally in my opinion and it's worth the effort and investment. It's not overly convoluted to the point it's more trouble than it's worth like in a lot of games and gives you (and any alts you may have) access to quality gear any time you need it.

Im a big fan of nightmothers gaze atm its awesome.

I use 5 NMG, 5 Hundings and 2 Agility on my StamBlades, usually with stamina regen enchants.
And Dubious Camoran Throne as my drink.

I PVP mainly these days and can say that crafted sets are often part of a meta build, or can be a decent second to a set you need/want to farm. Moreover, I have seen a number of personal, private and highly effective (read OP) builds that use a crafted set. So, yes. Note: PVP is very personal to play style so crafted sets are likely to have more of a top tier niche.

In PVE, knowing your rotation well is so important that the difference between a good crafted set and a BiS farmed set is secondary. You'll want the latter once you have rotation, but 5-10% difference is noise if you don't have the class rotation correct.

Sets don't really matter in non-vet dungeons or overland play -- go crafted if you need/want.

One thing to keep in mind, unless your chasing the last 1 or 2 percent of DPS, there are plenty of crafted sets used in this game. In other words unless your chasing leaderboards trial rankings or certain 1x1 PvP, your options are more open than some would lead you to believe.

The ones already mentioned are the most popular, however if you like to go off the beaten path there are tons of Niche sets that you can create a build around and have fun.

In fact, it would be hard to find a set that is totally useless for most content in the game.

The most balanced comment is this thread.

For PvP, Shacklebreaker is quite possibly the most useful and versatile set in the game. It works on literally any spec, and has resource pool, dmg, and recovery all rolled into one for both stam and mag. Because it's crafted, you can customize it to suit whatever you're building for, and there are no goofy proc conditions to deal with.

OP question wasn't "are crafted sets are useful for something?", his question was "are crafted sets worthwile to dropped/trial sets?"
So all you who protect julianos and hundings just leave OP with 10% less dps, sitting wondering why he wasted resources on them, instead of just running trials several times to get better results, several months faster and cheaper.

    I currently use:

    Magsorc - still leveling:
    5/5/2 Julianos/Seducer/Magnus

    Stamblade:
    5/5/2 Hunding's/Spriggan/Agility
I swap out Hunding's for Night's Silence when doing sneaky overland stuff.

Crafted sets are for leveling and are still useful for non 'end game' PVE content - vet trials, skin runs, etc. People expect you to pull your weight and that will usually include having BiS (dropped sets) gear, whether you personally like it or not.

I have 15 max level characters on my main and most wear at least 1 set of crafted gear. Only those that I might use for vet trials have 'BiS' gear as the rest don't really need it.

This is but one of the reasons I enjoy ESO, crafted gear isn't a complete joke. It isn't meant to be B.I.S, but as mentioned before it is used as filler gear while completing your real end game set of gear. Most MMO's I've played the Developers go out of their way to make sure crafted gear doesn't compete with any end game raid gear.
I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it.

One of the many guides out there to crafted gear: Sunshine Daydream's Guide to Crafted Sets. This will show you exactly what you get from each set.

I use Julianos and pair it with Mother's Sorrow. Great damage and easy to acquire.

When I'm leveling a new character, I use Julianos 5 piece, Mechanical Acuity 5 piece, and Torugs 2 piece. It's a great set-up for pugging dungeons and getting through content while leveling up.

if you want to go searching chests in stealth in vet dungeons (COA2 for example) there are sets you can craft that help you stay stealth

Where are there commonly chests in COA2 -- in the area that was also in COA1, or past the portal?

Also, what are you talking about? :) Other than Night's Silence, which admittedly is a great stealth set for non-vampires, anything else I'd use for stealth is a dropped set, like Night Terror, Night Mother's Embrace, or perhaps now Darloc Brae.

    To the main point:

I level magicka characters in Julianos and Seducer armor, along with any 3-piece matched set of dropped magicka jewelry (I actually have the Bangorkai one, but most people would get their jewelry drops from Alik'r Desert or Auridon dolmens). Either Julianos or Seducers can be the five-piece set.

I level stamina characters in 5 pieces of Hundings, 4 pieces of whatever (Night's Silence or Night Mother's Gaze is what I actually made), and 3 pieces of matched dropped stamina jewelry.

I still use Julianos sometimes on max level characters, and rarely Seducers. That's as somebody who has a lot of dungeon gear, but nothing from trials.

When you hit end games, no, crafted sets are of limited value.

I just wish when you completed a master writ, it unlocks the crafted set in a 'crafted collectibles' window.

While crafted sets are nowhere near BIS, to unlock them would make swapping a stam dps to a tank so much easier, wouldnt be a great tank, but it would be able to tank dungeons, probably vet dungeons if the player was good. That would resolve the traffic issues in the dungeon finder.

Presently, to do this, there is an expectation to carry around two full loadouts of gear to have a Stam DPS that can turn into a tank. As such, very few do this.

"are they worth it ?"... What for ? If you don't provide a context, how do you expect a proper answer ?

For trials and other high end, "serious" game stuff ? Probably not. Onlyu trial sets will provide you with a bonus against trial monsters, so if that's your focus, obviously you know the answer already.

For sneaking ? Hell yeah. If your character is stamina based, Night SIlence is the only way to remove stealth movement penalty, besided being a vampire.

Fortified brass was THE set to go for my tank, until racial changes to Nords brought him so over the cap that I hjad to respecialise out of it (and out of any CP in resists, too).

Seducer is a perfect set for any magicja character that struggles with sustain. All the Meta Boys will cringe hard, but if you make an orc sorcerer or any other unusual magicka user, then it works wonder. Of course, that means you're not trying to squeeze that extra 1% DPS from all you can...

As a magicka necromancer (Imperial, at that...), I find myself using exclusively class skills. Thus, Innate Axiom is an obvious choice.

If you're trying to make a stamina / magicka hybrid, you want Pelinal's Aptitude.

I hear Shacklebreaker is welcome in PvP, but I don't know anything about PvP. Could be useful for a hybrid too.

Kagrenac's Hope and Morkuldin are pretty decent sets for a good all round, complementary sets.

Also, while leveling, if you want to be decently equipped for adventuring (assuming you're not rushing it as fast as you can and intend to enjoy some adventuring), crafting is the only way to get decent set bonuses all the way.

Yes, absolutely. But crafted sets often seem underwhelming, because dungeon and trial sets have fancy bells on them that sound great (and often are). However the crafted sets contain some hidden gems that are still extremely powerful if you know how to incorporate them into a build effectively.

There are also several important added bonuses available.

-You can craft sets in any of Light, Medium or Heavy.
-You can create whatever trait and enchant you need, from the outset.
-You get to decide exactly how the armour looks - this effectively gives you a free "outfit", as of course you can then create an outfit at the station.
-Anyone can access crafted sets (either themselves or via a master crafter), not anyone can access or more specifically, complete veteran dungeons and trials.

Off the top of my head, the two most popular crafted sets are still probably Hundings and Julianos. There are others like Seducer, Kagranec, Fortefied brass, that are widely still used in builds or for levelling. There are several other niche sets that are powerful for specific builds. So for instance Pelinal is a go to for a hybrid build, along with several other sets that lend themselves to such builds.
