TBH, I'm really dissapointed on the Elsweyr Chapter

Hello everyone! Sekekama here, yes, another WoW refugee!! :-) Little backstory before I begin; I've played WOW since 2005, and currently still play and raid at Mythic level. 8/9M in BOD
I've started looking 'elsweyr' for other games, because I think everyone knows by now WoW is not in a good-state with BFA.(their current xpac)
I slowed down to playing about 8 hours a week, (mostly just raiding) and I'm currently playing ESO about 30-40 hours per week.(so you can see where my time is invested at.)

I've played ESO off and on since 2015, and most recently picked up the Elsweyr when it came out for PC. I can't talk much about other chapters because I did not play them when they were first released, always picked them up though, and from what I remember, they were all pretty good.

Honestly, I love the game, I love all of the theorycrafting, and different set/combos you can use, the endless 'exploration' that you can do.
But Elsweyr... I just feel like it was SUPER RUSHED. From a few of the Necromancer class skills still not working as intended (people told me it was even bug reported on the PTS!)

Blastbones --- reported on the PTS - damage isn't correct, (i have pet damage turned on)
Shocking Siphon -- you have to keep spamming the button because if you don't correctly aim at a corpse, you can't use it.
Detonating Siphon (Morph) " "
Restoring tether -- " "
2H/Bow combo always bugs out, literally the weapon stays on the floor. I constantly have to /reloadui. I see this issue has been going on for..... a long time....lol

And not to mention the main quest line for Elsweyr was really really short. I mean I finished it in like 2-3 hours? I honestly thought there was going to be a ton more 'main story' quest left... but nope!
I know ESO uses the anti-ddos services, because of the past, but my latency is always 130-150ms! yeah it's not the end of the world, but I mean jeesh I makes the game feel a little laggy. I know it's nothing compared to what some OCE players play with, but it's kinda ridiculous.

One last thing. Cyrodil. for what it's worth, everyone usually talks up the PvP in this game, but honestly, all I've experienced Cyrodil to be is a massive LagFest.Players jumping across the map, abilities not going off. It's inexcusable. Because all the money Zenimax makes from the Cash Shop... you guys can at least invest more money into your servers. I know it can get expensive (upwards of $750k-$1m per month for server maintenance) But if I can log into literally every other game I own, and have my latency between 30-50ms, why oh why is ESO the only game with 130-150ms? it's just a huge turn off.
I'm thinking they bet on the 'new player' wont recognize the terrible service from the servers and just look past it and think nothing of it, but players who know, know it's a turnoff.

TL;DR
If you guys are "Killing It", why don't the ESO Devs try and fix what's wrong/broken in the current game and try to take advantage and win over tons and tons of refugees looking for a new place to call home?
I really want to love ESO, and I do like it, but it's the little things that is making me play less and less everyday.

I just want to see ESO be a successful MMORPG that doesn't let the little bugs/lag define the game.

I've got a feeling something more is coming that links in with the chapter. So watch this space...

But yes nothing should go live with this many bugs..hey a few can make it live with 1000'S of tests but the reaction has been abit.....well....meh.

yes Please!! I hope they make a Southern Elsweyr!!!! that is exactly what they need! 1 zone is great, yes Elsweyr is a huge zone, with lots to do, but after about 1 or 2 weeks. it's the same repetitive thing. The 'dragons' (wyvern in my book) all fly in the same route. When they land for us players to attack them, they literally all do the same thing. There isn't a world dragon that is unique. (they look great btw)

and the Necromancer class having bugs... when released is a pretty bad fail. I mean ok, sure 1 or 2. (thats all they have!) why can't you fix 1 or 2 bugs? It was reported on the PTS! Then there is complete silence on the issue.

Another thing that ticks me off is all of the ESO streamers that are partners with eso all Talk the game up that its this 'high and mighty' most incredible chapter ever. They say the Necromancer class is flawless and are a ton of fun. Yes sure a couple skills are great, but they're leaving out the part that theyre bugged!!!

Please dont make the same mistake other MMO companies are making leaving us in the dark about the issues at hand. Really just addressing the issue and say "We're working on it" --- and I would be happy.
It's just the acknowledgement is all we need.

While there issues with some Necro skills and I think that is more to do with the animations are more complicated with something like blastbones. But that is no excuse. It should have been better at launch.

However, the main story line took more than 3 hours, iirc, unless you were space baring and skipped much of the conversations. Often there are multiple lines of conversation beyond the minimal that is required to progress the quest. These are usually bright white where what you have already done is greyed out.

Further, the main story is one of my favorite in all of the game. Mostly because of Cadwell. His back story was great and Cadwell is one of the fan favorites which probably has a lot to do with how John Cleese voiced him.

My disappointment came with the final battle in the main story. That fight was just slap stick silly. There was a great opportunity for figuring out a good puzzle or some mechanic for killing the dragon, but no. It was just a silly mechanic and a real let down.

I'm loving it so far and cannot agree with you on many stuff you said. Sometimes I wonder are we playing the same game/quest/chapter? But then again I'm a slow player that actually listens and cares for all the dialogue.

But wanted to let you know that chances are 99.9% that in Q4 we will get Southern Elsweyr. :) It's so obvious on so many levels (e.g. hint "Northern Elsweyr", 1y of continued content, dragons, etc.).

Agree with Maboleth. I tend to play games like this vary slowly. I walk (not run) everywhere, investigate everything and listen to all conversations. Some may find that boring, but you can miss so much if, like some, you rush through everything desperately trying to be the first to complete the game.

I really do enjoy playing this game.

Apart for a couple new and original buggy things in every expansion, it's the same old stuff, some of it re-skinned. I still can't gather up enough interest to follow a quest line, but that's just me. I'm into the combat. But with the constant nerf hammer coming down with every release, even that's getting challenging.

And for the millionth time...fix your servers! I'm playing at nearly double the ping as when I started. If anything will kill this game, it will be this.

I do have to admit, during the quests, I read them in my head, I dont take the time to listen to the voice acting because then it would take me probably 3-4 times as long to do 25% of the content. So thats on me, speed rushing/questing.

But to each their own. Some people like the Voice acting quests, others play the game for gameplay.

Totally agree that the main quest is way too short. It feels like half a zone to me. Quest is shorter, has half the wayshrines as Summerset. Although everything else is on par with a normal zone....

I dunno. I just feel like there’s more to come. Hopefully...

If you rush/speed through quests, don't listen to the voice acting, and you really just want to focus on combat... that makes me wonder why you choose to play ESO - since the game doesn't seem to match up very well with what you enjoy.

Aren't the lore and storytelling the big draws of the entire Elder Scrolls series of games, afterall? ESO is primarily a "role-playing" game, not primarily a "combat" game. Combat is included of course - as part of the story.

Perhaps you and ESO just aren't meant to be together? :D

I most likely will be playing Classic in August, and keeping my retail account up to current ilvl/raid tier.

You shouldn't be dissapointed for Elsweyr.. it's not that short, maybe because I read the quests in my head rather then listen to the voice acting, but there is a ton to do in the new zone. Plenty of delves, WB Dragons that fly throughout the zone and land in a spot waiting to be attacked, and a good public dungeon, with a neat mummy cat to collect.

But you'll be busy for a little bit if you don't rush to complete.

Guys. Elsweyr Chapter and Update are two different things. Please, stop mixing it into one experience. The chapter is a zone and quests. All nerfs, buffs, Cyrodiil crap - it is Update, not the Chapter.

The Chapter is amazing. I play since early acess and I have done 4 quests so far. No rush. I enjoy the details.

The Update is.... well... I don't care for a new class, so I can't judge it. My persorc Altmer feels ok after update, so - well, I'm happy with the Update also.

Yep, 350ms minimum for us Australians now.

But y'know, other MMOs - like WoW, obvioously, as well as FFXIV - have been targeted by DDOS attacks in the past, and you know what they did? They developed better techniques for mitigating them when they inevitably happen.

However that requires human intervention. ZOS opted to just route all game traffic through a scenic Akamai route instead, permanently crippling game performance for ALL players, "just in case".

You’re right I did come here. But for the 3 weeks I’ve been here I’m starting to realize the grass isn’t greener on the other side.

Meaning yeah you can polish Elsweyr up all you want, but once you play it and experience the constant bugs/lag/ TERRIBLE server performance... you question if the trade off is worth it.

I feel like I’m loosing more then I’m gaining.

And yes I’ve completed the zone- achievements, quests, delves, side quests, mummy cat, orcrest, etc

There are 32 (or more) quests to do in Northern Elsweyr. The same number as Summerset, I believe. At least the same number are required for the "Grand Adventurer" achievement anyway, which does NOT include all the quests available within a given zone. The maps seem similar size too, but Elsweyr doesn't have a giant mountain blocking half of the land mass like Summerset does.

In recent few weeks, I have gotten the Savior of Summerset achievement on my second account (to unlock the dye). After spending time in Elsweyr during PC early release, and having my very recent experience in Summerset, I would say the two zones are similar in terms of available activities.

Indeed. That, and the fact that they didn't care one bit for feedback. But hey, look ! Dragons ! Excitement ! More nerfs ! Oh wait, we can't advertise that, can we ?

The best proof that they have no idea what they're doing is this newspost :

    Rich wrote:
we couldn’t be happier with the response from you, the community thus far

I suppose he means the many bug reports, the overall felling that necromancer is "meh", the happy reaction to some nerfs, or the ever-popular faction lock in Cyrodiil.

I'll add my own pet peeve : the uninspired and lazy AF public dungeon of Rimmen Necropolis. This is, by far, the worst public dungeon in the whole game. The only reeedeeming factor is that the group encounter is placed at the beginning and seems integrated to it rather than somewhat forced there. The fight itself, however, is far too scripted (they always are scripted, this one simply goes over the top) and dialogue lines are even less sensible than usual. "No watch how a true warrior fights !", then proceeds to summon a horde of undead and hides behind. And to top that, there isn't a single container to loot. NOT ONE. The only lootable things are food and potions. Not a single crate, barrel, whatever. There are a zillion of urns and none is lootable. If it's a design choice, fire the guy who came up with the idea. If it was just rushed... Well next time finish your product before selling it.

    Rich wrote:
the team created an incredible world filled with equally incredible stories

"incredible" means "hard to believe". So, on that we agree. The sheer stupidity of Abnur Tharn is hard to believe. I've barely scratched the surface and already I find that some fanfics from 14 years old would be better written. To be honest, it's not just Elsweyr that suffers from that, there are lots of occurences where your character is forced to act stupid even when you, the player, see it coming from miles away.

    "Rich wrote:
Dragons have come to ESO, which finally brings one of the most iconic Elder Scrolls monsters to our game

They were "iconic" in ONE game. I'd personnaly consider the guar to be even more iconic than dragons, but if I'm honest, the most iconic monsters of the Elder Scroll franchise as a whole are the daedras. They were in every game (at least since Morrowind in 2002, can't say much before that), and they kept a somewhat similar appearance from game to game, making them highly recognisable. First time you run into daedra in any new Elder Scroll game, you don't have to mouse over it to know what it is, you're like "well, ***, daedra !". THAT is iconic. That is, actually, the very definition of iconic.

    Rich wrote:
The team did a remarkable job with Dragons - whether it be in the way they move, fight, or communicate, they are truly special and not something you’ll soon forget.

You really ought not to pat yourself on the back for that, man. You really didn't do anything special with dragons.

The way they move is a joke. As someone else pointed elswhere, they move just like any large monster in this game. But they are NOT just any large monster. They are WAY larger and thus, shouldn't just appear to switch the direction they look at in one blink. And yet they do. They look good while moving in the sky, allright, but on the ground, they look like lifeless puppets.

The way they fight ? You mean they actually fight ? Seems to me they just stand there taking damage and having no sense of what's going on around them. They shout, breath fire, wag their tail, flap their wings, but not in reaction to what's happening. They just do it. They can stand on a rock taking a zillion flaming skulls, and not even blink while magicka users shoot lightning INTO THEIR EYES. Then they sit there on the ground doing nothing, while their HP drops quickly, because script say they have to pause for a while before their next attack. I know they think highly of themselves and think we pose no threat, but when you're so wounded that your life will end in a matter of seconds, maybe it's time to reconsider. Maybe at the very least say something like "How is that even possible ?" when they are close to death. Nope, they just act like the scripted puppet they are.

When you look at a monster and see this obviously the scripts that make it act, something is very wrong. As an image speaks better than words, this is what it feels like to watch a dragon fight :

    Culture_Matrix_Code_corridor.jpg

They are truly "special", yes, but not the way you meant it. They appear somewhat deficient in the cognitive areas, to just stand there taking a beating and not even realising it. I'm afraid they really are not all that memorable either, mostly because of how fake and uninspired they are.

@ZOS_RichLambert , I'm sorry, but really, between the lame-arse dragons and the combat team being in the worst hands it has ever been since launch, Elsweyr is really nothing special. The place DOES look good, though, I'll give you that. The art team did a good job. The animation team, not so much. And please slap the combat team lead for me, he's the one who spits on lore for so-called PvP balance, and screws us PvE small team players over and over.

In regards to the main quest:

Yes, I found it short too. But not even close to 2-3 hours, more like 5-6 if you actually listne and don't rush. I prefer longer main quests ( Summerset's was the perfect length imo and we got to know different characters more closely) but I know some people actually prefer the main story to be shorter. They did a poll I am sure they were keeping the mind its results when designing the chapter.

As to the year-long content. I don't really like that concept purely because it forces people to buy all dlcs to get a proper ending. ZOS should have implemented some sort of season pass for this year's content.

Bug? Yes, they are annoying. I can live with most of them but still think some are way too important to be overlooked ( dungeon queues, crucial lags)
