This dev post has the answer youre looking for. https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/477831/elsweyr-update-22-aua-on-eso-subreddit-today-from-1-30-3-00pm-edt
Plans change. I hope that one does, because I really think it would be very nifty to have a "polearm" skill line to play with -someday-... even if it is not a priority at this time, perhaps someday when they have done whatever they are working on now, they might comsider it."We have no plans on implementing spears..."

But then, I would say that, would I not?

I mean, I -almost- didn't buy elsweyr already, only when I heard about the "illegal necromancy" I got way too curious as to how that would work out...
But added classes really vex me.
I want guild skill lines, I want weapon lines, I want extra races, I want all the stuff we see NPCs do but never are able to cast ourselves someday! And I want it refit-able to my existing characters, not having to play through everything once again - that is already killing my interest somewhat badly, and it should not get worse.
They filled the "second line" of classes, let this be anough and maybe add -specializations- instead of new classes...

One word: Laziness...
They already have assets and animations for that. But spear ? NOo... That would require actual effort to do animations and weapon models...
ZOS, think about it. Do you think it will be easier in the future to do ? By that time, you will add a sit ton of new crafting styles ,it will be actually more difficult to do as the time passes. It will require more & more effort to add new weapon style with new animations and models.
Besides watch this:

I've begun to wonder if when people do not get their way they flip a coin. Heads they say laziness and tails they say incompetence.

As well, while magicka alternatives are lacking it should not be a magicka weapon, makes no sense what so ever. I would heavily suggest them to release more new weapon skill lines as opposed to classes as I believe it can increase diversity in build creations as well as longevity for the game as people would get a chance to get more invested in older characters again with a new skill line to use for them.
The "One-Handed and Rune" is something they really should do with the next chapter and really put effort into it, a new magicka weapon skill line would make a lot of people happy. Not just that its magicka, but that its basically a spellsword skill line, which I know is a favorite for many RPG lovers. As well it would also be more of a melee magicka weapon as opposed to the focus on ranged attacks as we have seen, would love to see DKs and Templars use them, but that's not to say the skill line would or could be without ranged attacks(even Dual Wield has a ranged attack).
My personal suggestion for the use of Polearms such as Spears, Halberds or Pikes is for it to be a form of tanking weapon. So while Magicka characters got robbed of the idea of a damage dealing Ice Maga we Tanks got a crappy tanking weapon whose biggest feature is never even used, blocking with magicka and heavy attack taunt. Unless big changes are made to it I will keep calling Ice Tanking a failed experiment. But Polearms with or without shields stands as a perfect opportunity to get us a truly good Tanking skill line. Keep your enemies at a distance while protecting your self and others from harm. There is a lot of possibility for new forms of tanking utility to be added in here that could really spice things up for everyone, PvE as well as PvP.
So give us a few chapters with new skill lines. "One-Handed and Rune" first, then Polearms for tanking and then I would say like wands to give healers and magicka something again(but mainly healers as they only got 1 option right now, lame), stamina can wait, it does have a lot of options already.
Pipe dream but just wanted to weigh in as I hate it when people suggest spears should just be a 2 handed weapon with the great swords and battleaxes but I do also agree that magicka characters need love too.

Agree. I repeat myself here, but it shouldn't be a rune or any other artifact through which the magic is Harry-Potter-Channeled. Visually it should be our characters innate ability (casted from our hand tes 1-5 style) and learned knowledge, with the corresponding "weapon" item being a spell tome. Visually this could take several forms. Some writing on Skin for wood elf, book on a chain for orc style, book in bag for Breton, imperial box with scrols...

I had a similar idea once, though I would not limit it to "spell tome" - I went with "spell focus" and would like it to be a much wider varietee of items - holy symbols, maditation crystals, shaman rattles, gemmed skulls, ornate spellbooks, gilded scepters, whatever... of course, I envisioned that as an alternative to staves, since it really vexes me that casters have to have staves... (and again, I would love to see it be different somehow, like... staves add a bit extra range, spell foci a biut extra damage of whatever, so people can pick which suits their characters playstyle...)LennoxPoodle wrote: »Agree. Which would be small enough that the rune at least would be hard to see as "soemthing held in hand" anyhow, and instead should only display as "glow in elemental flavor" around the casters offhand...
And as I keep saying, I like the idea of having more chopices, so I would love to see some choices there too, asside from all the elemental damage types - like, wand for extra range, rune for extra damage (or spell penetration, or whatever)I had a similar idea once, though I would not limit it to "spell tome" - I went with "spell focus" and would like it to be a much wider varietee of items - holy symbols, maditation crystals, shaman rattles, gemmed skulls, ornate spellbooks, gilded scepters, whatever... of course, I envisioned that as an alternative to staves, since it really vexes me that casters have to have staves...
