Stamplars change to radial sweep

Radial Sweep: Increased the radius of this ability and its morphs to 8 meters from 6 meters.
Empowering Sweep (morph): Redesigned this morph to offer damage, rather than survivability. The damage pulse after the initial hit now lasts 6 seconds at base, but is increased by 2 seconds for each enemy hit, up to a maximum of 6 enemies. It also now grants Empower for the duration, rather than Major Protection.

Developer Comment:
Spoiler
The Templar has many Ultimates that operate defensively already in their other skill lines (Major Maim from Nova, Major Protection from Remembrance), and we found their toolkit for offensive moments wasn't being given enough opportunity. Back in Update 20, we adjusted Crescent Sweep to deal Magic Damage and introduced a bonus mechanism where enemies hit in a cone in front of you took bonus damage. We wanted the Physical Damage morph to also enable damage, but through alternative means. Now, the entire ability's duration will scale based on enemies hit, and will also grant Empower for the duration.

So since they gain empower after using an ultimate which is silly why not rework this skill and give them an offensive buff that doesn't revolve around light attacks? Maybe have it grant an attack buff say by 60 per enemy hit up to 6 enemies for 6 seconds?

I mean if nightblades can justify a low cost ultimate with 20% bonus damage a passive 100 resources back per light attack and heavy attack and silence or even it's old version with defile why can't others have overloaded low cost ultimes?

I hate this change. I love having a 70 cost ultimate that offers better damage per ulti than dawnbreaker and 6 seconds of major protection. With blood spawn set I can get pretty high up times on major protection in pvp and while soloing in pve, and 30% dr is huge.

Really wish they would go back on this change.

Yeah I agree but they won't go back so maybe if they want it to have more use give it something better than light attack buffs lol. Or how about disarm to stop stamina from using moves since nightblades look like they are going to keep silence on their skill.

Yeah although empowering sweep for pvp was really good and has saved my life countless times, i don't really like using ballista back bar for pve. I like using class ults, empowering sweep needs an additional effect like standard of might or incap ---- allowing 10-20 % more damage for the duration. It doesnt have to be that but it should be something more, currently you need to hit 4-6 targets to slightly surpass ballista dps.

They have been steadily nerfing stamplars defenses for years now, and i dont know why.

Most people when they complain about unkillable tanks in pvp or whatever its typically dk or warden.

Next patch even nightblades are going to have better defenses(hint hint they already have).

Over the years we have lost:

Major Mending (replaced by minor, mainly beacuse of magplars Rushed Ceremony and sweeps).

    Minor Vitality(replaced by nothing)

    High uptime on minor protection.

We also lost our blocking passive due it being replaced by the minor protection to aedric spear.

Critical healing bonus from aedric spear passive.

Meanwhile stamplars are also bottom barrel dps in endgame PVE, and the change to empowering sweep doesnt help them there either.

@ZOS_Gilliam @ZOS_BrianWheeler can you guys maybe chime as to why this spec has lost so many of its defenses with nothing to compensate.

Rune Focus change was nice, but thats as far as it goes for stamplars, it has been steady nerfs to one of the least played specs in the game.

We now have the worst defenses out of all classes, second worst healing and our damage was massively reduced when major evasion was reworked.

Should also add that our savagery buff being tied to jabs has been terrible for years, just look at dk or warden can get much better uptime.

Also when minor buffs were toned up and DKs received and extra 5% wpd from minor brutality, our 6% remained the same, beacuse why the heck not.

I look at this spec these days, and everything it can do can be done much better by other classes.

Stamina Warden has far better aoe with sub assault, and is tankier.

DKs are far better defensively, better healing through multiple passives better defensive(and offensive) ultimate through corrosive.

Nightblades have better damage, sustain and mobility.

Sorcs have better mobility and healing(due to surge).

The argument that we shouldnt have great defenses due to cleanse has been stupid years ago and still is, considering how expensive the skill is, not to mention how easy it is to put 10+ debuffs on people in seconds these days.

This spec needs a direction, is it a high damage mobile damage dealer? Not right now.

    Tanky brawler? Not even close.

    Great support class? Think again.

We need something to be at least reasonable good at :(

Stacks with brutality yes, not in solo play though or in pvp if theres no dk around.

In pvp you can treat these as self buffs for the most part.

TBH PvP stamplar needs survivability built into its kit without having to rely on building for a melee range ultimate. That kinda thing really restricts viable builds. Some of the defensive budget of that ultimate should be moved. Where to, devs and longtime stamplar mains would have a better clue.

PVE stamplar needs damage. It would be nice to get it from Luminous Shards given the need for extra Burning Light procs. Take away the synergy and change it to physical damage. (Yes, this is a decently hot take. Maybe 🌶️🌶️🌶️/🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.)

(A decent number of healers are moving away from Luminous Shards because with viable magplar dps you can't guarantee that the tank gets the correct synergy. If most of the time the tank just gets the 1 resource back anyways when you run Luminous Shards because they got the Blazing Spear or Energy Orb Synergy first then the healer should run Blazing Spear for the dps.
Worst case you could give Luminous Shards no synergy and the Blazing Spear give both resources like Luminous Shards on live.)

And again Devs showed that they should be much less paid for their work.

We need a proactive defense and that was pretty much all we had. Doesnt really matter adding time to it based on enemies hit because if we hit enough enemies, we're not lasting that long.
