picking a pvp class question

so I am relatively new to the game, i bought it when it first came out but only played a couple months and quit up until last january. I have been trying to learn the game as quickly as i can but i dont know all the classes very well yet so trying to understand the impact of these changes is difficult.

my question is basically in your opinion, preferably someone with extensive experience in pvp on each class, which class will be the best for what i am looking for if these changes were to go live as they are this moment, i know they will change of course, but im hoping i wont have to ask the same questions again when things get reworked to know if it will effect my playstyle or not.

so what im looking for, or what i was going for i should say before all these changes were announced was solo/small scale open world pvp. so i looked up builds when i started playing and the one that caught my eye was 2h/bow nightblade in a gryphon/agility/troll king and archers mind sets as seen in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o88Q_EXgPpQ

so with the coming NB changes im not sure if that setup will still be viable, i just want something that is self reliant and can go out solo but also perform well in small groups, maybe even keep capture.. i know NB wouldnt fit that description much but its just the class i first gravitated to.

the other class that caught my eye was the stamina DK which i know is also having significant changes coming and i havnt played one at all, my NB is only 205 cp even and i havnt pvped at all yet because i havnt acquired any of the above sets yet. i know from reading forums people say stam dk is boring or lacks identity, so yet again im only able to go off what i read and see in videos, but they seem very good in the live version of the game, will they be better or worse after these changes?

the video that has me thinking maybe i would like DK is also from the same person who maybe just really good at the game and makes every class look good, but hes really good at showcasing the type of playstyle i am after and explains the builds very thoroughly too.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVlQKqUMlzY

i know its still really early in the PTS so majority of people probably havnt even had a chance to play many builds in pvp but if anyone shares the same playstyle im talking about, what are your opinions for this coming patch?

thanks in advance for any info

From what I’ve seen solo play and 1vX revolve around specific defensive mechanics. The one you choose should depend on which defensive style you prefer. The defensive mechanic defines the playstyle more than anything else, because when you’re outnumbered you can quickly get overwhelmed:

NB - cloak and using the shade for a port
Templar - tree/rock humping and mist form
Sorc - tree/rock humping and streak to get away, somewhat pets for defense
DK - not too sure about this one, if you’ve read guides you’ll likely know better than me. Crutch reflects I think
Warden - Not too sure about this one either. Projectile absorbing is powerful.

The ones you see most frequently are Sorcs and NBs because escaping a bad situation is the most important thing to the playstyle.
Looking for any guildies I used to play with:
    Havoc Warhammer - Alair
LoC EQ2 - Mayi and Iskiab
PRX and Tabula Rasa - Rift - Iskiab
Or anyone else I used to play games with in guilds I’ve forgotten

Cyrodiil = big map . My advice, pick up a class/build that has mobility . (Especially if you play solo a lot) One of the worst feelings in the game is to see a bunch of enemies coming at you while you can’t do anything coz ur class is slow. But if u wana play bgs/duels , thats a different story, Cheers.

appreciate the input. i like going behind enemy lines a lot and finding small encounters in most games i play. however the question im really looking for is, will the builds being used in the videos in my OP still be any good next patch? the NB specifically sounds like it will have the hardest transition, but would like to hear what someone who has either tested them or played that type of build enough on live to understand the impact of the PTS changes better

@Chiefwilliams, good PvP players (who also enjoy their character) generally can find a way around patch changes.

Find your favorite PvP playstyle first ... worry about the patch later.

This. Having alts can be beneficial because you learn how other classes work, but you’re far better off mastering one class.

I’ve seen a DK and Warden use absorptions/reflections to walk right around a large pvp battle so they could attack me as the healer in cyrodiil. I was surprised, I’m thinking they still had healer support to survive.

If you like being far away solo from your faction there’s really only two choices: sorc or NB. Two streaks puts you more than 28m range and lets you disengage. NB has cloak, but as you face better opponents they’ll be more likely to use stealth detection pots.

Solo on any other class tend to stay close to either terrain to line of sight or other players.

I think you should more precisely describe the playstyle you are after.
    Mag/Stam
    Range/melee
    Bulky/elusive
    Hard hitting/constant pressure
    Sneaky/middle of combat

Jack always plays extremely high risk/reward play styles that require tons of game knowledge and skill to play, very unsuited for beginner players if you ask me

    I would recommend Stamden.
Great damage, survivability, sustain, and utility just makes it a no brainer for PvP recommendation.
