Rework Soul Trap into a Magicka Execute?

Currently nobody uses Soul Trap. It is a trash skill (used only for filling Soul Gems, which we get a ton of anyway) but is available to everybody.

Why not rework it into a magicka execute? That way there wouldn't be any changes to any of the major skills lines, and everybody would have access to a magicka exe.

Ideally you would make it a spammable exe, though you could just leave it as a dot (in which case it'd work a bit like a magi version of Poison Injection).

If you get the killing blow with it, it fills an empty Soul Gem. This way, you'll get that RP feel of securing their soul (as you secure the kill).

Thoughts?

    Sounds good to me. I doubt they'd want to make massive changes to the skill, but having it be a worthwhile DOT with an execute component - somewhat like Poison Injection - would probably work out.

    My thoughts... They don't like completely reworking skills! Though because it doesn't belong to much of a skill line, and nobody currently uses it, AND all players get it, it'd be THE perfect skill to rework if they did want to add a spammable mag exe. I can't see them adding a spammable mag exe to any major skill lines (e.g. Destro / Mages Guild) any time soon, as it'd really mess with the balance of those skill lines.

    I use Soul Trap, every day. It's not useful for serious content(TM), but it definitely is useful.

    As a DoT execute it would just buff up those classes who already have executes. As a spammable execute it would proparbly disrupt balance between the classes so lot of rebalancing would be needed because of that.

    Soul Trap is such an iconic skill of the Elder Scrolls series, I wish it was more useful, too. Making one morph an execute DoT like Poison Injection seems very fitting.

    Yeah I agree that this may be an issue if it were a dot exe (though you'd still lose a bar slot when doubling up on exes, so it might be fine. Poison Injection already works like this and is in an OK state). I think this would be less of an issue if it were a spammable, as MagDK and Magden could really do with an exe for PvP. You just wouldn't want it to be strong to the point where other classes were regularly taking it instead of their class exes.

    I use that ability a lot as well. I also use the oblivion set. This way I get up to 3 gems filled with every kill (the passive works too). Leave it as is. It's not like every class needs an execute ability or a spammable ability.

    i think it should do more than double it's damage, but at the same time, warden's swarm is something that a lot of people want to be like poison injection.

    I wouldnt mind this skill being revamped, but its actually used quite a lot in endgame raiding for sustain purposes on trash. Players tend to wear high dps sets and use soul trap to offset the sustain drain.

    I actually like the idea of it being a magicka poison injection. Then it wouldn't eclipse the existing magicka class executes (and might be usable by those classes, too) while giving something to magdens and magDKs.

    Could keep the skill exactly the same as it currently is (with maybe a slight adjustment to the base damage), with a very aggressive damage scaling below 25%?

    This is a really great idea lol that damned skill line needs work. Would fit well with the necromancer theme too.

    This would be a good way of doing it if there were much opposition to a rework of the skill.
