but i cant change it to a race in a different alliance from the one the character is currently in before the race change? What sense does that make? What's even the point of that?

You can, if you have the Any Race/Any Alliance unlock. That was available as a preorder bonus (as part of the Explorer pack), and is available as the Adventurer Pack in the Crown Store.

ok but doent it make more sense that if i switch to a race that is out side of the present character's alliance that the character and their alliance would change to be consistent? it's not a genuine race change token if i only have two other choices and all races arent available. (with the exclusion of imperial which you cant now get unless you buy it)

    it's useless

i made a high elf tank and i want to change the race to an orc or maybe an argonian but i cant choose either of those races.

    useless token

change the alliance too. no sweat. i'm all for that...

We do not need turncoats in Aldmeri Dominion.... Death to the Blues and Reds :D

The game is designed that way, as it affects your Mainline line story location, Cadwel Silver/Gold among other things.
Technically it would me a nightmare.

What you are suggesting makes total sense. But I think what I am thinking here is that the reason why they did this is for Cadwell's silver and gold. If you're pre-50, or if you haven't done or still in the process of doing it, it would mess up that progression. I'm just guessing here, but could be the reason why they locked your character in an alliance after the first character selection.

That does seem to be a minor oversight on their part, given the free race change tokens were precisely because of racial changes.

However, they did give you 3 free race changes. I don’t think they really needed to give any. I guess it’s a good incentive to buy the Any Race, Any Alliance upgrade.

but if i get the any alliance any race, then when i change the race to one from another alliance, the default alliance for the race i choose will not be in effect but remain as it was before.

i guess ill just delete the toons in question and start over.

What’s even more interesting is if you change your race you keep your old crafting style so an imperial that you change to a nord can only craft in the imperial style.

who cares. if you played skyrim you know the thalmor are straight up bonkers. maybe worse than the dwarves. the dwarves only wiped themselves out. the thalmor want to take all of nirn with them.

You can change your race to get different racial passives (and aesthetics), but you have already selected your allegiance to a faction when you created a character. You cannot change your allegiance regardless of what race you are.

Even if you have any race any alliance, if you decide to race change you can not change to a different alliance. You are able to pick any character from any alliance, but your original alliance will stay the same.

I find race changing offensive and antithetical to the whole RP portion of MMORPG. I'm not an RP'er but I do like the story content of a story and I always find it really weird that you can change your race. Logically speaking changing your class makes far more sense than changing a race. I know a lot of people appreciate the ability to do so for POWERGAMING reasons and that is understandable. I've played with races who performed abysmally for years mainly because I refuse to pay for bad balance choices on ZoS parts. My solution has always been to play another character until the balance comes back around. Thanks to many balance changes they have fixed that mostly. Argonians are still in a bad place however and are the race that has been consistently bad for years. It is my hope they step away from the bad balance decisions for that race (which I think is thrust upon them because of the potion passive). There are really two reasons that bother me about race changing: Theme & Balance. I've spoken about theme already. Balance is actually the bigger concern. You make a character and its race for style which is part of the fun/fluff side of the game. The balance concern is a larger one because a system where they can sell you race changes means they have good reason to UNBALANCE races so that players will regularly pay to swap races. This is not a good thing. A consistently balanced system is much more warranted. Paying the developer to mess the game up is not a good thing.

Honestly If you want any race any alliance then buy the damn pack. I'm not ok giving it out for free since I had to originally pay for it as a pre order. Besides it's only 2000 crowns sub to eso for 2 months and have at it.

It works as any Race IN any alliance, meaning it lets me be a Khajiit in the Pact, but once your character has been made you can't change alliance. You'll just have to buy the upgrade like everyone else.

Your allegiance to an alliance is locked in once you create your character. If you start off as AD, and later you unlock imperial and get the any race pack, no matter what race you pick from there on after, you will always be representing the AD alliance. Always. That will never ever be changed.

You have to create a new character within the new alliance you want, then level that character to 50 (which can be done in less than a day).

    Also...Wait for Zen...
