Can you bring yourself into deleting "completed" characters?

Unless it’s a low level toon that you barely started I can’t wrap my mind around why anyone would delete all that work, especially if they have points in crafting and can do writs and such. There’s so many in game tools to edit your character with that it’s just a colossal waste of time.

I don't really do writs anymore, so losing points isn't a huge deal. I'm a story player and once the story's finished, I don't have much use for my toons anymore. My main/crafter has been everywhere in the game, so I keep her for expansions and festivals. The rest really are disposable just like single-player RPG PCs.

I have only deleted 1 max level character on live. Ever.

Currently however, I am debating deleting 2 more to change their factions.
    Do your writs.

I do have 11 characters fully maxed out and geared have deleted only one character that was breton mag warden back when I was cp 350ish(now max) it was my 4th character intended to be heals full geared which I wasn't enjoying. I have deleted more but that's basically when they're below level 10 except for my imperial stam sorc she was level 20ish

Yes, I've deleted multiple max level characters. Leveling is so easy these days that it's no biggie to remake them.

Delete a character at lvl 50? Noooooope. To much work, effort and time put into them. I have a rule, if a character is above lvl 40 their untouchable. So I'm cautious with making new characters. I also make sure I'm happy with the ones I have before lvling them to max, gearing them etc.

I also don't make characters purely for more inventory space or such. All my characters have some kind of story, makes them more fun and immersive to play.

Nope, I can't delete them, I'm horrified of all that time wasted on leveling. And anyway all of them have some background, never created mules/peons. Even free race change of one of them still makes me doubt and regret that change.

Interesting question. I've axed a couple of max level characters because I hadn't played them for months and didn't feel attached to them but I couldn't get rid of ones I have played recently. On the other hand I have a few that will never get axed because they have a back story although they get played rarely.
Thinking this through, I only really play three regularly. Most new characters get deleted at about level 30 when I realise I'm bored with them or they don't have much going for them (I find character stories tend to emerge during playing, but some just don't work).

I do it quite often. I think I like the "journey" more so than the "destination".

Exactly, all the things happening on the road to some destination or goal are what make the goal valuable and add history to it, this is the case often with longer term goals. I think nowadays quite many players just want to get to the goal as soon as possible with as little actual playing as possible, not saying it's the wrong way to play, but this often leads to very painful playing style and destroys the fun from games. This is why playing=grinding for many nowadays.

Spot on, and it's so frustrating when that leads to those players calling for everything to be dumbed down so as to "lessen the grind" as that also destroys the fun for those who enjoy actually playing the game fully.

After roughly four years and 3400 hours of playing ESO, I still don't have a character I'd consider 'complete'. Once I'd reach 810 CP I might consider my main somewhat complete, especially as he is the only char out of 12 who ever managed to get his riding skills up to 60/60/60.
But I would not delete him.

I have deleted lower-level chars, yes... one of level 20 and two of level 3. The first one because he was my very first character in ESO, I did pretty much everything wrong with him until he was utterly unplayable, and I didn't know that I just might have reset his attributes at a shrine.

Should I ever lose interest in ESO (like it was the case with SWTOR - there was just nothing to do anymore for a solo player after playing through all classes), my characters might wither away in storage like their SWTOR cousins, but I would NOT delete anyone who hit lvl 50.
