^This, I have 10 characters all leveled up, with a full build and got full mount upgrade, however, most of them had no "character background" when I build them (forced levelup during double xp time) and most of the time I play only few of them. I'm thinking of deleting some of them and create some new characters, from lv1 without speed leveling, so I can feel more "attached" to them and come up with build myself, but thinking of all the money and time I spent into them (mount upgrades, gears farming etc) gives me pause

I don't delete characters at all. I think in my entire history with the game, I've only deleted two characters off the live server.

Now, I have deleted characters on PTS, because I needed a character slot to generate a template, but that is a bit different.

I deleted like 8 characters with 60\60\60 horses, 200\200 inventory slots and all skyshards gathered. At some point you just stop givin a ***.

This, I never used them but so I just ended up deleting them and having just 2 chars before making more, this was before the extra slots

No, killed off my bank alts a long time ago.
The 3 free race changes can also be used to change look. Its also way easier to flip between skill lines than leveling mage guild.

Never - hence I have 15 maxed characters on my main and 4 on my secondary account. For more pain I have started from scratch on the EU server as well......

The only characters I have permanently deleted are those created solely for free housing and to give alt accounts racial styles.

I did delete Nord stamplar number three, but I recreated her on an alt account so I don't count her as being gone. I did have to add a surname when I brought her back, the first name alone was taken by the time I got around to it.

I deleted an Argonian with 60/60/30 riding yesterday. Only level 16, didn't have much because I just couldn't stand playing a lizard. Won't ever make another one. Thinking about delete the level 15 Orc too, ditto. The gold in the riding isn't really a big deal, gold is easy in this game....

Should be able to respec any said char into another build. Work on getting attached as you flesh out said build to save yourself some time and effort.

Unless it's that exact time and effort you're after. Go ahead and delete then.

Assuming you play all of them on one server, the answer is to leave them intact and start over on the other server for your platform. Unlike the other option of running a second account on the same server, switching servers has the advantage of really starting over because you can't mail gear and gold etc to the new characters.

I haven't deleted any character, when I started playing ESO I created all 8 characters available back then, at that point I didn't know much about classes or stamina/magicka based ability differences. Now I have 15 max level characters, 10 are Pact, 3 Covenant and 2 Dominion. I play pvp with most EP characters, DC and AD characters are for writs and pve. Some characters have much history and having 2 Grand Overlord rank characters means much time spent with those characters over the years and therefore very high attachment to such characters. Deleting any feels completely impossible, however now that my game has been stuck since Wrathstone and I'm starting to realize my ESO playing might alreay be all over if the game won't start working again. There's not much difference in result between deleting all characters or uninstalling the game and quitting playing because of game not working. I have one test character created for NA server, which will be deleted, it was never even planned for actual character to play.

I did it once, but it was painful for me (soooo painful!) because he even had his Undaunted maxed out, and that takes forever to level up, in addition to his Mages Guild, Dark Brotherhood and mount training, all of which take a good long while.

My spouse was suggesting they ought to introduce perma-death for characters in Elsweyr, and I said "Nooooooo!!!! You have no idea how long it takes to fully max-out a character!" He doesn't play ESO and has no clue.

All my characters have leveled up multiple crafts and multiple riding skill lines. I'm not deleting them.

As for RP identity -- my character with the strongest RP identity was exactly the one I needed to race-change because of the devastation to Bosmer thieving. I'll never allow myself to have a strong emotional commitment to an ESO character again. Even so, 6-8 of my characters have looks, names and so on that I'd be reluctant to race-change away.

As soon as I need the character slots in any MMO, I start deleting my oldies. Haven't hit that here yet, but when I do, it probably won't be an issue. I'll keep my crafter/main, but that's it. Everything else is fair game.

Oh, yes. I can, and have, deleted max level toons.

If a toon is no longer fun, or falls from my favour (e.g., a core skill begins to annoy - looking at you jabs), I will delete it.

It has taken me a long time to finally find the classes I enjoy in ESO, and so the corpses of many deleted toons lie on the path behind me!

I have deleted so many characters.
So many that were level 50 and fully geared
So many that were an idea that didn't really pan out
Some that were just holding a name for later use
Soooooo many. In fact I keep a list of every character (or that I can remember) that I have deleted, including their name and class/spec.
I have about 27-31 characters deleted, about 13 were level 50.

Unless it’s a low level toon that you barely started I can’t wrap my mind around why anyone would delete all that work, especially if they have points in crafting and can do writs and such. There’s so many in game tools to edit your character with that it’s just a colossal waste of time.

Stuck in combat issue is probably the most annoying in the whole game. I still remember one situation which happened somewhere last year, we got Arrius and after that many players headed Kingscrest, I headed there also, but I was still in combat. Well no worries, keep wasn't even close being flagged so I had plenty of time to get there. I started running/walking and many times tried to get mount, I didn't get the mount, but I was quite close to keep so I thought I won't miss the ap blip. Keep turned when I was probably about 5-10 seconds run away from getting the ap, I would have got there in time, if I wouldn't have tried to get the mount at all. I was absolutely mad and wanted to throw my console out of the window, I still remember that situation even close misses happen often because of being stuck in combat.

I thought about getting Black Desert online, but simply can't get myself motivated to start any new mmo game at the moment. I'm probably getting Mortal Kombat 11 and start playing Borderlands games again.

If i feel like the character is too far screwed up, I kill them and recreate, no problem. The only issue is getting their mount training stuff back up, some days I completely forget to do it so it really is longer than 180 days to fully train their mount up.

Exactly, all the things happening on the road to some destination or goal are what make the goal valuable and add history to it, this is the case often with longer term goals. I think nowadays quite many players just want to get to the goal as soon as possible with as little actual playing as possible, not saying it's the wrong way to play, but this often leads to very painful playing style and destroys the fun from games. This is why playing=grinding for many nowadays.

Yeah, I've done it to about about 5 characters. After I decided I only wanted 1 of each class, and that I wanted 1 Stam and 1 Mag per Alliance, anticipating a Mag Necro in the mix for a max of 6 characters.

The part that hurst most was full mount training.

I've deleted at least 4 level 50's, and my first main which only made it to 30-something. The hardest to let go was an orc provisioner named Okra the Breaded.

I've got one free slot right now, but I'll delete another lv50 if I need a second. Anticipating I might make two necromancers, I made a spreadsheet to try and decide which, but it's still up in the air.

Unfortunately my most redundant remaining character has the most upgraded inventory space after my main, and bag upgrades are expensive towards the end. I don't play them but if I delete my biggest mule, others will have to carry that burden, mostly bound gear that I'm not ready to discard.

Yes. I've deleted more than 10 fully leveled characters with regards to level & horse training. Some also had Undaunted 10, Fighter's guild 10 & mage guild 10. I still have 14 fully leveled characters with max horse training. Most also have Undaunted FG & mage guild, skyshards, etc...

Game stuff is so transitory.. eventually they will all be deleted.

Exactly why I'm leveling up characters on the my EU server account - to see if I could still stand the challenge of starting with no immediate assistance: Gold = 0, food = 0, potions = 0, CP = 0, Craftable sets = 0, etc.

Really takes you back to see how much effort has to go into getting a character and account up and running. The only advantages you get carried over are from being an ESO+ member.

My first character is CP197 but is still only at 4, 5 or 6 trait on most research and skill points get used up as quick as I can earn them.
