Does Update 22 raise number of character slots per account?

Maybe I missed it but . . . I don't see anything in the 5.0.0 patch notes about the number of character slots. Is the number of character slots being raised from its current limit of 15? Guess I will find out when the test server is back online; but it might be helpful to address this in the patch notes, since players who are already at the 15-character limit were hoping for more character slots so they could start a Necromancer.

This is a really good point. During the first Season of the Dragon stream, ZOS stated Elsweyr would come with 1 additional free character slot for everyone and an undecided number of additional slots for purchase. They must have overlooked this for Elsweyr's initial PTS release.

Now that the PTS is open, the question can be answered with certainty. With the patch, 3 total extra slots have been added.

Notice: Despite being told there would be "1 free slot for everyone", if you had ever previously purchased any character slots, you will not get a free slot; you will instead have to purchase all 3 of the new slots. Apparently only those who have never bought slots will get that 1 free one.

Pretty sure the user logged on to PTS and bought additional slots until they could buy no more.

I’m still downloading but will confirm ...

I have never bought any additional slots. Just stayed with my original 8 because I really only play 3 of them. As someone who has never bought an additional slot, what is max number of characters now before I have to start paying? Is it just the 1? So I have 9 slots before I have to start paying? Or is it more because earlier Chapters came with free slots that I never used?

On the Live servers it’s 15 ... hopefully it’s 18 now assuming the above posts are correct. I will try to confirm when PTS finishes downloading.

EDIT: 18 slots total confirmed. No free character slot if you had ever previously purchased any character slots ... as @Ertosi points out above.

If we have to pay for a slot that others get for free it's pretty ridiculous.

If that is true, that's basically punishing your customers who have supported your game by purchasing extra character slots. That really doesn't seem fair or right to me.

That does make me angry. So because at one point I decided to add in an extra character, that now disqualifies me from having a free slot to make a necromancer? What if I had no plans to ever buy a slot gain, and would play a necro if I happened to have a free slot? I just don't 'get this mentality. Why be miserly with the ones who spend money on you, and be generous with the ones who don't? Don't you want more of our money? Because you won't get it by Scrooging us to make us play for me. Customers want to feel appreciated and not used. Returning customers keep paying out of brand loyalty. Bleeding them is going to backfire.

Not good enough - if anything, people who have bought the slots are the ones who should be rewarded, not punished.

No free character slot when they are introducing a new class? Seriously?? That might be enough to make me cancel my order of the new chapter. I wouldn’t object if they gave me one free slot and let me purchase another, so I could make both a stam and a magicka necro, but when I’m paying for a new class, I expect at least one slot so I can play that class!

This is obviously a bug. It's to be expected in the first round of PTS. Instead of getting angry about it report it.

Everyone else who is testing on the PTS, please make sure to log this as a /bug in-game.

Lets give ZOS a chance to fix it, as I'm hoping it's just an oversight on their part. If they don't, well, I'm sure their Customer Service department will be able to correct it later, as I'm not paying for the free slot they stated everyone is supposed to be get.

When I logged onto pts it said on the character select screen that 3 new slots were available. In game I was only able to buy 2 and when I went back to the login screen it said I had the full 18 slots unlocked, though I couldn't create a character before this, definitely a bug.

Yes, I noticed the same. I had to buy a slot before I could create a new character, but I only could buy 2 before it grayed out. Then on the character select screen, I saw that I now had 18 slots.

As 15 is the current max on Live, then you're seeing the same thing as everyone else. You just had 1 less slot purchased than the old max, which means you had to buy 1 additional extra on PTS. You're still at the 18 total slots max everyone else is at on PTS. No in consistency seen yet between players.

Ah, that's very insightful. I did notice something funky when buying them, but thought I must had double clicked or something. Still, hopefully this will get fixed before live.

I am original poster. I had 15 characters prior to Update 22. On PTS, I was able to create a new (16th) character (a Necromancer, of course) without first buying a token. I then bought 2 "Additional Character Slot" tokens (1 gold each!) from the Crown Store, for a total of 18 characters.

Everyone who purchases Elsweyr (and thus has access to the Necromancer) will get one free character slot. All players, regardless of purchasing Elsweyr, will be able to purchase up to two character slots through the Crown Store.
