PTS Update 22 - Feedback Thread for Elsweyr

    • Tutorial
      • Did you play through the new tutorial?
      • What did you think about the combat trainer segment? Was it more or less informative than previous tutorials? Is there something you wish it would have taught you that it didn't?
      • Did you find sufficient items to loot in the Catacombs section? Did you feel these were called out clearly enough in the staging and propping?
      • Did you encounter the optional lockpicking tutorial? Did you feel rewarded for completing it?
      • What did you think about the tutorial dragon encounter? How was the difficulty?

So, I played the tutorial and it was quite ok, not too long and not too short. The thing I think you missed was roll dodging,or at least I do not remember it explained about roll dodging at all.

For someone who has played TES games before, the items were quite easy to find. In the end I think I got full set of gear, except the belt? The tutorial did not tell me why I should use any other armor weight than heavy. (wearing heavy could be reasoned with "it has the biggest number next to 'armor' text", why should I sacrifice my armor values by wearing light armor?)

I did encounter the lockpicking tutorial, but I'm not quite sure about the rewards. Why would someone lock up all their armor when you have armor lying all over the place.

The dragon, it felt like I did next to nothing damage wise to it. It felt like I was just banging my head against an unmovable object and truth to be told, I was a bit frustrated and started to think when does this end.

The furstocks are definitively a highlights of this DLC. I love especially how much old lore was once more affirmed by this DLC and how little was retconned.

A few things I want to point out however:

In Riverhold there is Shasuna-ja. The honorifc "ja" however always appeared to be male only. Is this intended, or a mistake?
    3o8vhxfi1rca.png

Same goes for Jo'isi in Rimmen. While the "jo" may be part of the name, and not an honorific here, it usually is a male honorific. Jo'isi however is female. Is this intended?
    lguii16s3o8r.png

The original TESO game has a few more Khajiit that seemingly have wrongly gendered honorifics. Whereas I have not yet found an explanation in the new lore why that may be.

Do you have any other general feedback?

    Yes,

    Change Imperial Mettle passive from:
Imperial Mettle III: Increase your Max Stamina by 2000.

    to:
Imperial Specialist III: Increase your Max Stamina or Max Magicka by 2000, depending of which one is higher. If the value is equal, both receive a increase of 1250 each.

Thanks, problem solved. I want to be a Imperial Mage and Imperials are known for being a jack-of-all-trades.

    It feels like home.

What more can this one say?

The sands are warm and the big Khajiit in the paddling pool is very handsome indeed. That mane, those paws … Meow indeed yes!

Khajiit thinks most of the houses will be in the north no? Very solid stone structures yes.

Perhaps you could consider adding a smaller place down by the sugar farms?

This way Khajiit does not have to walk so far for her essential groceries yes.

    It's larger than Summerset.

With a fully leveled mount and rapid maneuver it took me 5 minutes and 4 seconds to ride the way marked in red:
    LddiKlI.png

In Summerset it was 3 minutes 32 seconds in yellow and 3 minutes 59 seconds in blue:
    tIcYXPM.png

But more importantly, Elsweyr doesn't have any impassable mountains in the middle of the zone. In Summerset they make up almost half of the map.

I think more houses should be opened to break into and steal from. It's pretty disheartening to see so many houses have random chains in front of their doors and be inaccessible, especially in Rimmen of all places. Half of Alinor isn't blocked off, so why is Rimmen, this chapters equivalent "main" city?

This is also an issue in basically every other settlement in the zone, too. The weirdest part is I found a house out in the middle of the wilderness that was chained off. Why is that house even there then?

After a couple different gameplay sessions, I found this to be a prevalent too. There are so many “chained off” doors.

Sure, it’s an issue for thieves ... but it’s also an issue with explorers too.

I realize the dev time is limited. But not fleshing out some of these details gives players an unfinished or incomplete feeling.

The world bosses are considerably easier than Summerset. It felt more like a base game world boss tour than a dlc tour. I'm not sure if that's good or bad for most of the playerbase, but for me it's disappointing. Most of the summerset world bosses are still fun a year later, in part because sometimes I actually die.

I'm guessing a small group of new players will have no problems with these and by 360 cp, they are solo content for sure.

I got cooked by a dragon solo and zerged another. I only had 6% health off of him when I was soloing, so I suspect there's a challenge there for most of us if we reduce the group.

I very much like map indicator showing the boss is active. High claw to whoever added that. Ideally this would be everywhere. The map should show if bosses are absent, spawned and idle or in combat.

    World Bosses
    • Did you fight any world bosses? If so, which ones?
Fought all world bosses. Loved how tied to Elsweyr they are and their diversity in fighting styles.
    • Were any of them too easy or too hard?
Every single world boss is WAY too easy. Fought them, solo, using a CP 810 MagNecro. I managed in other zones to solo bosses, but it was much harder. And all of them don't offer enough of a treat and I can easily heal through all their damage.
Bosses completely melted and I was solo. Seems they don't have enough resistant or something. Wish the bosses were more in like with the treat World Bosses in Wrothgar propose, or like some from Morrowind and Summerset. I've been doing a lot of world bosses lately since it is Lyris' week, and all that I fought on live were harder.
    • Were mechanics clearly communicated?
Yes, I suppose. But as I said, since they melted with not a lot of DPS, I didn't really have to play the mechanics.

    World and Environment
    • What did you think of the Elsweyr environment?
The Zone is gorgeus, and I loved just riding around. The way the landscape was designed makes very pleasant to travel. One think is that I was in Rimmen and felt like the city was underpopulated, more so in the crafting area. Add some Alfiqs please.
    • Did you see any new types of Khajiit? What did you think?
Haven't met an Alfiq in game yet, but seen all the other types.I loved to talk to the Senche Rath and those giant khajits.
Murkmire already brought variation in a same race, I loved that Elsweyr takes it one step further. Makes me dive in so much more in the story
    • Did you encounter any new monsters you haven't seen before? What did you think?
Only one so far (that I took notice), DODOS!!!!! They are so funny.

Haven't done any WB yet, but did 3 overland Dragons. I think they might have turned WBs back to solo-friendly, as Dragons are a group activity.

Don't know if there are other variety of overland Dragons, but the ones I encountered had the same modus operandi (fire attack, Fus Ro DaH, iron/fire golems and etc.). If these are the only type, it's kind of disappointing.

The crossed swords on the Dragon icon, when a fight is happening (Cyrodiil kind of has it too already), would be an awesome addition to other zones, like Dolmens and Geysers.

    Tutorial
Did you play through the new tutorial?

    Yes

What did you think about the combat trainer segment? Was it more or less informative than previous tutorials? Is there something you wish it would have taught you that it didn't?

The combat trainer was good. I enjoyed how it flowed with the story. It seemed like it was missing the spell interrupt part but knowing to interrupt in general may be fine.

Did you find sufficient items to loot in the Catacombs section? Did you feel these were called out clearly enough in the staging and propping?

Yes, there was enough equipment just laying around to come close to filling out the slots. I couldn't find a waist item, but not a deal breaker.

Did you encounter the optional lockpicking tutorial? Did you feel rewarded for completing it?

Yes and yes-ish. All of the chest and shoulder pieces were light, but that could just be RNG.

What did you think about the tutorial dragon encounter? How was the difficulty?

I wasn't quite sure where to attack and the fire animations seemed clunky at best. I didn't die so I guess the difficulty was ok, but the animations seemed off.

[*] Did you engage with any quests outside of the main story? If so, which ones? No

    [*] World Bosses
Have not done them only Dragons which should have names and be harder to kill.
    • Did you fight any world bosses? If so, which ones? No just the Dragons
    • Were any of them too easy or too hard? Yes all of them
    • Public Dungeons
Did both felt rather short but that might be a nice change
      • Did you go into any public dungeons? (Orcrest or Rimmen Necropolis) both
      • Public dungeons are generally balanced for two or more players of average skill and gear. Did you feel sufficiently challenged?
I went solo and not really no I did not.
    • World and Environment
I was disappointed to see Minotaur's , Haj Mota and other normal looking enemies, was kinda hoping for my $100 for Elswyr there would have been a bit more effort to make it more unique feeling.
      • What did you think of the Elsweyr environment? I like the map
      • Did you see any new types of Khajiit? What did you think? so far only the senche Rhat which I love
      • Did you encounter any new monsters you haven't seen before? What did you think?
      not yet
    • Do you have any other general feedback? Yes the dragons are so cool but they need names and also where they spawn on the map needs naming to for calling out in zone for help. They felt to easy to kill even with a small group of us there.

Agreed. I didn't time it, but it feels noticeably bigger than Summerset and Vvardenfell. There are very few inaccessible areas. You can go almost anywhere on the map.

I fought a few of the world bosses, and they were extremely easy. I soloed them on my first attempt.

I think these need to be toned up a little bit in difficulty.

I get that the dragons are sort of like world bosses, but the other 6 actual WBs are going to waste like this. 2-3 people burn them down with zero effort.

Elsweyr is Very well done. The land is beautiful. ZOS art team should be very proud. You have about 30-40 hours of quest content, (I don't remember what you advertised), and then there are the dailies. This is the same as all the other DLCs except now you have DRAGONS. I think that as you keep evolving/tweeking the content involving them, you will stay ahead of the player's demand and keep player's interest until the next DLC in 3rd or 4th quarter 2019. Elsweyr could be well populated for quite a while. Well done.

    Couple things:
    1. Lack of Wayshrines. One near Grahtwood gate, and the rest up in the North. Need more in between!!
    2. Are you going to open up Southern Elsweyr?
    3. There is a Bandaari camp just south of Orcrest on the plateau near where a dragon hangs out. Shouldn't it have a map marker?
    4. I agree with others - Why is Orchrest only a public dungeon? There aren't a lot of cities to explore. Why not have Orchrest a regular city, and have the public dungeon a sub-set of the city? Like in Daggerfall?

I think my favorite part of the zone so far is Rimmen because I love me some good looking towns. It has been so far my most favorite town and I think I'll be permanently moving to here to do crafting. However, if there's one think I would like to address, it would have to be the crafting writ drop-off zone.
    8uurjqh5s9di.png
The distance between the crafting area and writ drop off location seems to be a longer distance than most convenient crafting towns, about similar to the distance between Stormhold's crafting area and its drop off area. While distance is not bad in of itself, the fact that the drop off area is tucked behind the inn in a secluded crevice makes it hard to find (especially since when I completed a writ in order to be able to find it, it did not initially show a marker where it was located and the area had to be reloaded for it to show up).
In my opinion, I think the writ drop off area should be relocated to one of the three locations marked on the map above. These locations were chosen based off of convenience to the crafting location as well as being more suited for a "delivery zone" in context to merchants and businesses that use similar services.
    1. Location 1 would place the writ drop off zone at the at most convenient place. Currently at that location is a fish stand with a storage zone. This location would generally be the most ideal but I believe would make Rimmen the go-to town when it comes to crafting and make other towns obsolete.
    2. Location 2 would be the second most convenient location to turn in writs. It looks like there would be enough space to place the drop off boxes with enough room without moving any of the current merchant props or the tree situated in the grassy area. In my personal opinion, I think this would be the best location to relocate the drop off area because it keeps the area a distance away from the crafting area and works contextually in the area with all of the merchants in the bazaar.
    3. Location 3 would place the drop off zone directly next to the bank. This location would be convenient for depositing materials collected from turning in writs, especially in circumstances where someone's inventory is full or they just need to deposit their materials quickly. However, in the spot marked on the map there are a couple trees at the time of posting that would have to be removed if the drop off zone is incorporated directly into the corner of the wall located there but alternatively the zone could be built around the trees instead. This would be my personal second choice for the convenient distance to the bank and the actual distance between the crafting area and drop off zone.

    Tutorial
Did you play through the new tutorial?

    Yes I did.

What did you think about the combat trainer segment? Was it more or less informative than previous tutorials? Is there something you wish it would have taught you that it didn't?

It seemed a little fast and aggressive, but is actually pretty good.

Did you find sufficient items to loot in the Catacombs section? Did you feel these were called out clearly enough in the staging and propping?

Yes, although given this is a tutorial, some advice regarding differences between weapons and weapon styles might be nice.

Did you encounter the optional lockpicking tutorial? Did you feel rewarded for completing it?

Yes and not really. There was nothing particularly special in the locked room. It should also be renamed 'Armoury' since it contained weapons and armour rather than treasure or anything normally kept in a vault.

What did you think about the tutorial dragon encounter? How was the difficulty?

It was interesting but thought a Dragon that soon was more than a bit aggressive. We are not the Dovakin. At 1st or 2nd level, we should simply be dead when facing a dragon. Abnur supposedly saved us from a dragon attack pre-tutorial but does next to nothing there.

    Side Objectives

Did you engage with any quests outside of the main story? If so, which ones?

Yes, every one I have been able to have time for. Which ones is tricky since there seems no way to check the quest names of quests we have finished. Highlights were Rigurt the Brash and the thieving mission in the Stitch. Both of those are completely amazing. Mazzik's detective quest is also great.

Did you find any quests to be problematic from either a directional or difficulty standpoint?

Stealth missions seem pretty stupid due to narrow corridors, too many blind corners and a relative lack of meaningful hiding spaces. The concept is great but the execution is problematic.

    World Bosses

Did you fight any world bosses? If so, which ones?
Were any of them too easy or too hard?
    Were mechanics clearly communicated?

Just the dragons, and posted comments regarding those encounters in the dragon encounter specific thread.

    Public Dungeons

Did you go into any public dungeons? (Orcrest or Rimmen Necropolis)
Public dungeons are generally balanced for two or more players of average skill and gear. Did you feel sufficiently challenged?

    Not yet.

    World and Environment

What did you think of the Elsweyr environment?

Generally really well done. Mob placement is often a bit annoying though... too many times they are too close to the paths.

Did you see any new types of Khajiit? What did you think?

Seen all of them, I think. Alfiq are a definite highlight. Not sure the balancing issues would be worth it but as a premium (crown store) player race, those alone could likely sell pretty easily.

It does beg some questions though. There should probably be some better introduction either in the tutorial or just after. If nothing else it is unclear whether the regular seeming lions and tigers out in the wilderness are sentient or not and if they are sentient, why they are out there not caring about (and being ignored by) the main quest.

Also, in the end of the Rigurt quest line, Lady (Isha, I think?) gets insulted that Rigurt might have thought her (apparently non-Alfiq) house cat was her. Why so quick to call insult over that when there is no way in game to tell the difference, even if you are playing a Khajiit yourself?

Did you encounter any new monsters you haven't seen before? What did you think?

As a rather new player, many of the monsters are new to me. Some (like Alit) I know from prior games or from the little I have played the rest of ESO. Other than the Dragons, nothing really stands out that much. That might just be too many years of playing MMO's though :)

Do you have any other general feedback?

Again, it would be good if there was some better lore integration, better acknowledgement of the local wildlife populations Locals seem really worried about bandits and the Queen and Necromancers and Daedra but completely ignore the seemingly also hostile normal wildlife that is not merely meters outside their settlements but often resting in their fields!

Also (and said this in the Dragon thread too), why are we being asked in a city supposedly ruthlessly governed by Queen Euraxia to mass slaughter her allies, the dragons? And why does someone allied with necromancers ban the use of necromancy?

Would like to add that the Thieve's Guild intro quest npc (Quen) does not show up in the outlaws refuge, despite the quest saying that she can be found in any outlaws refuge.

Minimum there should be a note in the refuge saying where to find her (only for those who have that content, of course).

Does she show up in Vivec and Alinor Outlaws Refuges? If so, I imagine it's just an oversight that she doesn't show up in Rimmen, and could easily be fixed. How about Amelie Crowe (Dark Brotherhood)?

I totally fell in love with the random encounter of Sharjo the Pahmar-raht, Ilarana the Cathay-raht, Mojzin the Alfiq, Raiffi the Dagi-raht and Pajmina the Senche-raht.

However, there are three things off there.

Pajmina still has the issue of the camera being at the wrong angle.

Raiffi is, for a Dagi-raht, quite short. In fact, the Dagi (not -raht) in Rimmen is the same size, or even bigger. That could be fixed.

Aswell as Ilarana speaks of being Cathay-raht. While she is sitting and hard to measure, she appears to be just as big as a Suthay-raht. Was that perhaps a writer's mistake to confuse both? Or did someone forget to scale her up? Also, as it was said in older lore that Cathay-raht are called Jaguar Men due their fur pattern, her tiger striped would be off aswell.

Other than that, this is a great insight in the khajiiti furstocks and what they do and how they do.

She does not show up in those either, however tonight I noticed that there is now an indicator for the caravan wagon to Wayrest, so now at least there is a useful indicator. Vivec has a boat to Mournhold, and she can be found in the refuge there. Alinor has a boat that gives you a choice between the three major cities, which is confusing given the quest. The quest text, however is still incorrect and misleading.

The Dark Brotherhood does not have this problem. That quest tells you specifically to go to the Gold Coast, to Anvil.

    • Did you see any new types of Khajiit? What did you think?

I did, and for the most part I found them wonderful! However...
There are a few things I think need to be addressed, as well as a fair amount of inconsistencies regarding furstock.

Firstly, while not official, many fans of the Khajiit considered the 'raht' suffix to denote the larger of two similar furstock (as well as which of the two possible phases a Khajiit of a certain morphology was born under), mostly because of UESP's information on the subject. However, I have noticed while traversing Elsweyr that both a Dagi and Dagi-raht are the same size. While I realize this information comes from an unofficial interview with Todd Howard, Douglas Goodall, and Ken Rolston, it might be best to make it clear that the correct, canon usage of the term only denotes which moon phase a Khajiit was born under (if this is already stated somewhere in the DLC and I missed it then-oops!)

    Secondly,
It was stated when ESO first came out that all current player Khajiit and NPC Khajiit were of the Suthay-raht furstock. It was assumed that they lacked the digitigrade stance because it would have made working with the model difficult for an MMO.
However, and NPC in Elsweyr seems to retcon that:

Ilarana indicates that she is Cathay-raht, and she is within the size of the character model.
    However...
In that same thread you'll note that someone found a 'Cathay" that was taller than the player model can possibly be:

Not to mention Khajiit like Zamarak:

This leads me to believe either one, or a combination of several things is going on here:
    1). Ilarana's dialogue is incorrect and she's Suthay-raht.
2). The tall Khajiit woman is NOT a Cathay but a different furstock.
3). Zamarak and others his size are either Suthay/Suthay-raht (which you've decided to make bigger than Cathay/Cathay-raht), or Tojay. If that's the case, it would be helpful to elaborate somewhere.

    Thank you for reading! :D
