The only time I ever know I've been hit with Ballista is when I see it in my death recap. A long time ago, I seem to remember there was a "put-put-put" sound, but I haven't heard it in a long time. And like with most Bow attacks, there isn't anything really obvious that you can SEE that alerts you to what is happening. Also, the enemy player just keeps doing whatever, he doesn't have to stop and channel the attack like with Soul Assault.

I was actually talking about the morph that behaves exactly like Soul Assault. You can make an argument for the turret even though the damage is substantially weaker than SA and costs 75% more, but there's no reason why the other morph which locks you into an animation should be weaker, more expensive and with more counterplay options (not a bad thing).
SA needs to behave, scale, and cost the same as Toxic Barrage.

It's an extra 1.5 seconds. Very minimal duration and unlikely to be cloaked.

Soul Assault is a noob killer, a good player will never die to it... So its fine as it is, that Ultimate's job is to be a filter between noobs and decent players, if someone die to it, he should instantly know he is a noob..
Incap is a noob killer. If you die from incap you should instantly know you're bad and should just quit the game and send all of your gold to me.
