What is the sprint speed cap currently? I was off for a few months and have no idea how much has changed about the game (and I forgot what I knew too).

And default run toggle is 100% already. Walk is 0%. Sprint is 30% on top

Looks like 3x Swift jewellry is useful no matter what then.

Here is a list of movement speed bonuses for you.

    Base: 100%
    Sprint: 40%
    Major Expedition: 30%
    Minor Expedition: 10%
    Windrunning CP: 2%
    Swift: 6-18% for 1-3 Swift
Concealed Weapon: 25% (Must be Stealthed or Invisible, and a Nightblade)
    Orc: 10%, only while sprinting.
Bosmer: 10%, for a few second after roll dodge.
    Steed Mundus: 10%
Medium Armor: 3-21%, 3% increased sprint speed per piece of medium armor worn.

So assuming one uses major expedition, 30% worth of bonuses from any other sources to hit the cap?

Yeah, Major Expedition and Sprinting bring you up to 70%. So 30% from other sources is all you need.

I went over the line then, but thinking about it, it might not be completely useless, because I don't always (like, never) have excessive stamina on my magicka-based chars for Rapids :)

Many dont realize how easy it is to hit movement cap, all you need is 6 pc medium, windrunner cp and 10% bonus from somewhere.

Has anything changed in the recent updates? I believe I saw something in random patch notes about various bonuses, but I haven't been actively playing for quite some time so I really have no idea.
With Coward+Fiord armour on and the medium armour passives, is it still viable to have 3x swift jewellery?

Unfortunate. I had hoped there was a patch that actually reduced the cap. Very well, thank you.

There is an add-on: MiniMap by Fyrakin that has an option to show your current speed on his mini-map.

It was 200% last time I tested it. That was on the most recent pts. There is a 50% increase of speed from sprinting.

So will I get over the 200% cap with 3x swift purple jewellery, mount, coward and fiord sets or not?

@Octopuss No, any extra speed is redundant. It can be nice in center situations. With the exception of the vampire passive you cannot sprint in stealth. Part of why Magblades are so mobile is because you can run vampire, remove the sneak speed decrease penalty and slot passive speed amps like the one from concealed weapon.

The important thing to remember is that certain buffs only buff sprinting and others buff movement speed in general.

While it is easy to hit the speed cap, you may want to stack some speed sets or items for the Stamina Regen or Attribute boosts they also provide. Like, if you are making a Speed Farmer. I have one that can sprint across any map in the game. I need to take him to Cyrodiil to see how far i can get there.

However, for most purposes, once your at 200% Speed, build for other purposes.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

I would say the opposite, unless you are trying to be at the speedcap in combat on a magic user or something. There are a lot of ways to the speed cap these days.

If you have been gone a while and want speed, go farm a Ring of the Hunt. With a swift trait (it comes as a gold quality swift piece), you get 52% out of combat and 22% in combat. I have already reconstructed 7-8 of them. Will eventually put one on every toon.

Out of combat with RotH, a medium armor user is essentially always at the cap when you sprint. 40% sprint, 52% RotH, 3 pieces of medium armor (9%), boom capped.

A light armor will still usually wear one piece of medium, so that means you basically need to come up with 5% to cap. You can get 2% from windrunner in CP, up to I believe 16% with Steed (all gold divines). For a magic user acting as a mule, doing writs, or any overland, Steed +ROTH means capped while sprinting. Without steed, you are still at 95%

Even in combat, my mag sorc in PVP is really close using a RoTH with a blood thirsty trait. 40% Sprint, 15% (in combat), 2%windrunning, 3% one piece medium armor, major expedition from boundless 30%. That is 90% of the way to the cap in combat. Throw in minor expedition and I am capped in combat. Out of combat, you are well over and that is with no swift traits.

    Edited: Sprint is definitely 40%

funny enough i found the speed boosts best with snow treaders, as it prevents sprinting, so i was stacking just base move speed bonuses (this was for pvp btw)

it just so enjoyable to be fast and unable to be slowed.
