Faction Lock, What do people actually think?

What are people's actual opinions on the lock?

Personally I have friends on many alliances and want to play with them when ever without having to commit to one group for 30 days. Also as I only PvP really that would mean 8 of my characters are pointless for those days also.

please remember that this forum is a very small portion of the eso community, if you want to see what all the population of eso thinks then you have to ask them by email on their @esonameaccount and not the forums.

making a 30 day choice has consequences, both good and bad.
but that's the way it should be, no one should be able to alter their faction choice until after the campaign has ended, the results of your choice may have been good or may have been bad, none the less it was a choice and should be stayed with untill the 30 days has expired.

you can easily play with all your friends on all other alliances just join them when they choose that particular alliance.

It's not a huge deal to me as I'm not a heavy pvp player. I do think it won't quite solve all the problems that people think it will and may actually lead to more lopsided campaigns than we have currently.

As a faction loyalist i love it.
12 out of my 14 characters on PC are AD, the other 2 are from the other alliances and are meant for dungeons and trials (made them because one Tamriel didn't exist in that time and wanted to make sure i would experience everything). On ps4 all the ones i got are AD.
Most of my friends are the same way.
Of course i got some friends from other alliances, all of them met in the battlefield, but if we want to pvp together they know they gotta come to the AD side

It seems that you are just copy-pasting your post without even providing any reasoning for your argument.
Why shouldn't we be allowed to join a losing faction when it is obvious that one faction is dominating Cyrodill?
Why shouldn't we be allowed to play with our friends when we want it?
Why shouldn't we be allowed to play with all of our pvp characters?

I think it is sad it is announced like this(only 1 unlocked 7-day campaign and it is cp when I prefer nocp). If I play in cyrodiil I only play in 7-day campaigns because 30 ones have too many ball groups for my taste and they lag alot more. I used to be AD only first 1-1.5 year or so. But then I started creating chars in different alliance specifically so I could pvp on the losing alliance because PvGate and PvDoor is for me really boring and I do not really care which alliance win the campaign. It used to matter a bit when you got the pve buffs for having the campaign, but sadly they became "buff campaigns", 1 for each alliance.

Tragic tale of one mostly solo pvp player.

I want the system to stay as is, but I'm not opposed to soft locks at all. I'd be fine with not being able to be on the leaderboard for multiple factions; I mainly hop to find fights anyways. I think that would be a really good middle ground here.

Not being able to Home the main 30 day campaign on all my chars breaks my immersion.

I should be able roleplay all my characters as loyal to their faction be able to honored with praise and rewards from their faction overlord.

After a campaign has ended you will be able to enter the next campaign on a character from a different alliance and be locked to the new alliance faction you choose for the next 30 days. After that 30 day campaign you can switch again, but once you join an alliance you are bound to it for the duration of that 30 day campaign.

I won't be PvPing anyway in the next patch. I can't wait to see people complain about getting rolled by faction balls and having only 2-10 defenders again. I know how fun that last lock was, and when the same thing happening on the server now without a lock, you can bet it will be far worse with one.

Don't worry though! Having a lock will somehow make your faction better, make them listen to you more, and make you win, win, win no matter what. If that doesn't happen, then we will need to take other measures like separating PvE again. Can't help spies after all!

Middle ground is best IMO.
Overly promote loyalty to the faction, but do not prevent players from playing in a different faction.

Well yes, I've PvP in ESO now for 5 years, as well as doing end game PvE.

I don't care about faction winning a campign I want fights, I don't care if I don't get any AP. I play for the competition and being on the faction that is zerging down the map is dreadfully dull. There was a reason they removed the old faction lock after all.

I feel that if ZOS released the data about how many people actually "faction hopped", "spying" what ever you want to call it, those figures would be much lower than you think. I've stuck with the game though a lot and I'm going to be honest how they handle this issue will be the diffrence of me staying or going, and I know I'm not alone in this.

Incentivising alliance loyalty with actually good rewards (which we lack in pvp currently) would have been a smarter move than locking campaigns.

The hard truth about all of the issues with Cyrodiil is that very few of those issues are caused by the players. The problems lie squarely at the feet of ZOS, they caused them and they perpetuate them. Thinking that faction locks are the solution to pet peeve A, B or C completely ignores underlying problems while moving ahead with yet another attempt to address symptoms.
Sure, some people will be happy that their particular annoyance was noticed by ZOS but ALL of us will be left to deal with the problems that this "fix" creates.

If y'all truly want the myriad Cyrodiil issues to be addressed, stop pointing fingers at players and start holding ZOS accountable for all of the problems that they've created.

I think this is great, only because its going to force players to jump in IC/Shor and spread out the pops off vivec.

I'm on the fence myself, not with the idea of a faction locked campaign but how it's being done. For this reason alone, even worrying about faction hopping is a player created problem. Every character is already faction loyal and can only fight the other factions in Cyrodiil.

Yeah I agree. Thing is though on the 5 years I've played on AD ( a lot during oceanic) I haven't had too much trouble with not being able to find a fight. Sure there are periods where AD has dominated, during those times I just do something else like pledges etc. But I think overall the majority of the time there was people on one of the other 2 factions to fight.

Actually there has been many times that I remember when there was literally only 5 AD players on the whole map... There have been times when it was just me and Iskra defending fare against pop lock DC... So much for people swapping factions for the 'good fight' haha. In fact I also remember times during oceanic when people swapped from AD to EP because they were sick of being zerged down and got fed up with people in AD zone chat...

Tbh overall I think in my time playing on one faction I've been zerged down just as hard and just as often as people that hop between them.

Anyways, tbh I don't care either way, I just don't see what the big deal is... I think people might be over reacting, you can still change factions once every 30 days. The population might be more stable to. Worse case scenario it can just be reverted the following update.

I thaught it would be good for a minute.

But then there’s things to do. Like empty campaigns and stuff. You can get a small group or solo yourself to gain control of the whole map.

Then it stays that way.

Until you log on to another faction and flip it back.

I know people do some dirty stuff, hoping around. But they’re having fun. Kind of like the guild trader system. There’s many more things going on here then you realize. Not everything is necessarily harmful.

If this change spreads the population out and people who zerg for AP on whatever side is winning at the moment go to the 7 day campaign then I think this change will actually be for the better. If people who want to play with their friends go to the 7 day campaign that's great too. If they boosted the AP gain on 7 day campaigns to further incentivize pure AP farmers and PVE players after Caltrops to go there that'd be even better. If campaigns are dead when 100+ are queued for Vivec that probably means that the rewards for those campaigns are too low. Spread out the population.

I don't think faction lock will help at all with faction parity and it may harm faction parity even more than even the pessimists are expecting. That's not why I'm optimistic. The fact that there is any pull factor for a 7 day campaign seems like it should spread the PvP population around. The fact it could reduce Vivec to not cap during prime time seems like a plus right now.

Finally, they have said that it is an experiment and not a locked in thing. You can't run an experiment without, well, running the experiment. I would 100% oppose faction lock for all campaigns, but I'm hoping the general terribleness of faction locks spreads the population in a way that reduces lag. If it doesn't and the campaigns are terribly unbalanced then there's always the option to revert the changes.

So it appears based on this poll that only the minority are in favour of Faction Locking.

A small sample of players maybe, but it can be made on the assumption also that the silent majority are happy with how things are presently.
