Unique Mounts

I am not talking about unique flavor of the standard mounts; Horses, Guar, Cats, Wolves, Bears, and Camels.

I am talking about more unique one off mounts that don't change skins with every crown crate.

I'm talking Boars, Large Birds, as well as possibly other types of reptilian/dinosaurian creatures like the Wamasu, Duneripper,
Why not more arthropod/insect mounts? Like Giant Spiders, or How about a Chaurus?


Crown Crates are a nice Flavor of the season type of thing but why not have a truly unique mount among those options?

I still want a silt strider, or the smaller version that's called a silt hopper I think. A full size one might be a bit ridiculous haha

I mean, you're not wrong.

Probably worth remembering, it is more expensive to design an entirely new mount, than it is to reskin one. So, shouldn't be much of a surprise when they are reskinned.

I'm having the Daemon Chicken as my pet at the moment. Would love one as a mount, inclusive of the flapping of wings and the egg laying! And a loud rooster crow when you hit the A button LOL

mounts should be rare drops from certain bosses/trials/dungeons in my opinion.

I have been patiently awaiting a wamasu mount since i first saw them in game years ago
I picture people riding wamasu with a seat like a basic howdah, kind of a low chair strapped to the wamasu's back.
I dont even care if they release a dozen skins for it, i just want to ride a Warmasu into battle!

I realize this is tangential, but, yeah, being able to interact with our pets in some ways would be really cool.

I don't mind reskins, sometimes there's a mount I really like but the colour is awful, soon as a decent reskin comes out I buy it.

That aside, I often drag my kagouti out, just for summat differing.

2 models that have not been hit too hard by paletteswap-itis that I can think of are the deer/elks and Kagouti mounts. Deer are still fairly rare as mounts go. They have satisfying hoof noises similar to horses and a freaky two-tone elk bugle just like IRL. As for Kagoutis, they need no introduction. They are eye-catching, awesome, and look especially great on Argonians.

deer mount pros:

-Fairly rare and unique
-Perfect for Wardens and/or Hircine enthusiasts
-Close enough to horses to feel horse-like but different enough to not be yet another horse
-Doesn't come in any flashy crazy colors that look like a WoW raid drop, for those who feel more "immersed" by more grounded-looking mounts

The deer mount's downsides:

-Not very flashy, nothing available besides white with a traditional Elk antler style and black with evil whitetail-like antlers.
-No armor customization. Considering this mount already doesn't have much going on, that sucks.
-EXPENSIVE considering they have no bells and whistles. I think the white deer was 3.5k at its launch and the black one is 4k crowns. Many mounts at their launch may have been really expensive but at least stood out like modern Apex mounts to justify the cost, like the Drom'athra Senche (at least before they copy-pasted the black and blue design onto everything in existence...)

Kagoutis are another fairly rare mount model when it comes to reskins, though as a weird primordial-looking armless reptile, their appeal may be more niche. Like the deer they come in 2 colors, white and black with orange glowing stripes. They are a great option for an Argonian who would not be caught dead riding a mammal.

Kagouti pros:

-Looks like a Guar on roids
-Has viewable armor upgrades as your riding skill increases. It's important to note that some models have this (Horses, wolves, senches, etc.) and some don't.
-Comes in 2 colors: a less eye-catching but more realistic whiteish color, and a flaming black and orange one that has a bit more flash for people who want a mount that stands out more/looks more magical.

Kagouti cons:

-The noises they make get pretty grating after a while. Not enough to put mine away, though.
-Prices again, but one can make that argument for almost every mount in the game these days.

I was a mount collector before the crown crate era made that impossible without a LOT of disposable income and aid from RNGesus. Out of everything I own, these two are my favorites by far.

I like the recolours because, as someone else said, sometimes the first version of a mount doesn't suit any of my characters but the newer ones do. For example I wasn't keen on the lioness (or lion) senche, but I really like the clouded-leopard one, and I like all my shadowghost mounts.

But I certainly wouldn't complain about having some more kinds of mounts added as well.

That's why I like Dwarven spiders. They were only three so far (of which I have two, the one with blue highlights just wasn't different enough for me to warrant spending 3000+ crowns on it) with fourth one coming (gem only, shame!). I agree that more unique mounts would get me to buy them. Reskins right now seem cheap and usually are too expensive for the little novelty value they have. And sometimes they're just silly (camel lizards?!). I mean you can only have that many horses, guars, camels, wolves, senches, bears and even spiders before you'll get bored, right?
