How do you deal with archers?

Nothing gets me more salty when I die than when it's to an archer sitting up top just spam pelting you. I admit, I have little to no experience in bgs since I just started playing but I feel like I can hold my own against most that I have came across. But these silly archers sitting up on a different terrain level just enrage me.

How do you guys deal with archers as a melee? I ended up just throwing my spear at him every couple of seconds and hiding behind a wall. My stampede wouldn't take me up to him or I would just focus him first.

Depends on what character I am playing.

Magden - I just sit there and cast shimmering and thank them for the Ult.
StamSorc - I have to move out of range and then get the player once the castle wall is down.

Stam sorc, find them with spin2win/hurricane then db them (usually they are vamps so they melt)

Stamblades, mark them when they show themselves and watch them burn stam dodging or sprinting or even better, magicka as they try to cloak

Don’t go out into the open - always keep a corner or ledge or other LOS option nearby until you’re sure the only target left is the archer.

If you’re fighting out in the open you’ll get shredded by the archer and their team.

That's kind of what I started doing. When team fights were happening I would see the sniper guy off in the distance and I would try to keep other people between me and him so his shots would hit someone else. Human wall lol..

I played that same map again last night and realized I could step on this rune on the ground that would take me literally right to where that archer was standing. I had no idea that was even there. The map started with a U.

Snipe is broken. And it appears that the advertisment of that has led to a flood of snipe spammers in BG.

They are however useless. And generally don't win matches, just avoid if up on their platform they won't win.

You'll find if you are tactical they melt. The ensure you bag like never before, as archer salt is next level pricelessness

Ignore them and run them down after wiping the real threats. Archers are one of the weakest pvp roles, they aren’t really a threat with a healer. Most of their killing blows come from kill stealing, so you do need to clear them or they’ll kill steal from your team.

I hate them too but honestly they are pretty easy to deal with once you have a little experience. I play nightblade pretty much exclusively (no snipe) and I just watch where their position is, (they typically don’t move around as much as they should) cloak over there and as soon as they reveal themselves hit them with a cc and you have an easy kill if you’ve got a good burst. Just have to get them in melee range.

Agreed with archers being pretty easy kills. As soon as you hear snipe or take the first hit just go on the defensive immediately and you should be fine. Also BG's maps are mostly well designed to have lots of terrain that will block LOS which are the biggest counter to snipers since they can't shoot what they can't see. Even then, they're going to get you sometimes but that can be said about any class or build.

I play a pretty standard style medium 2h/bow Stamblade in PvP but I put together gear for a Snipe build that I switch to every now and then just to mix it up. I can confirm that it's actually not very effective (my main build is 10x more deadly and survivable). Aside from kill stealing, it's more of a suppression/support role in a BG setting. The only way to effectively play a sniper is by putting so much pressure from range on a target that one of your teammates is attacking that they can't outheal or tank the damage, usually ending up with getting lots of assists and very few kills. Outside of Deathmatch or Chaosball they are usually the weakest link in the team.

The other thing I find playing a sniper is that I feel vulnerable the entire time and get melted by basically any fairly decent player that applies pressure on me. The best I can hope for in a 1v1 is a successful escape.

They're usually Nightblades, so I throw Haunting Curse on them and spam Crushing Shock on them. Pretty much every sniper thinks they're safe, but not from Crushing Shock.

Had this in BGs last night. My team took a quick lead because the other teams kept splitting into two teams and trying to flank the others (in Team DM). Once we hit 300 they all just sat up top and ranged us. We all went to the middle and typed /sit. They gave up after 30 seconds and decided to fight rather than wait down a timer.

Normally I slot silver leash (or ask a DK tank to use fiery grip) to get them down. I tend only to reliably use 6/7 skills in BGs so don’t mind using a slot for it if I need to. Costs a lot of stam but if they are snipe spammers then they tend not to take much stam to cut through once I close the gap.
