ZOS, make is so that Steam users can log in without using Steam, pretty please.

This is the first thread in over a year that has complained of eso not playing through steam, probably a year and a half maybe more. Only once in the more than 2 years in 4 months since I have been playing eso on steam did I have a steam login issue. [snip]
Given that I play on steam through Linux, using steam play aka proton and dxvk, I have the biggest hurdle to leap to play eso. Op is just full of crap afaik

Grandma✭✭✭✭✭it's fun to scream at zos and blame the, but im 99.9% sure this is actually steam's fault. Earlier in ESO's lifespan you could launch it indirectly from steam, but because steam sold you the product they got mad that people weren't using their launcher and required you to do it through steam. i'm fairly certain ZOS had nothing to do with it.GH / 3/04/2021 / Elemental Catalyst Necromancer0 -
SpiderCultist✭✭✭✭✭So, today wasn't just the day the servers died on us again. Today was also the day yet another Steam issue arose. Not much ZOS can do about that, allright, but say, how many times have you been barred from playing because of Steam during, say, the past year ? Lots of people couldn't log in for days, several times, and ZOS even acknowledged it by giving them free crates to compensate.
Today, people had trouble with Steam again, in the form of needing to redownload THE WHOLE GAME. And of course, once they will be done with it, they'll have to re-patch the whole game again through the launcher, because the download is wrong. It's not only happening to ESO, to be fair. But it is happening to ESO too, and there would be a simple solution :
Let people who bought the game on Steam log in without Steam.
They did buy the game like everyone else. They have a game account. With a username and password and everything. So, they should be able to use the account page to download the game and log in from the launcher, just like non-Steam users do. That alone would solve a zillion issues.
I play ESO without Steam. My wife wanted to play too, so I gifter her the game over a year ago on Steam, when there was a sale of sort. I'm not that cheap as to buy the game only on sale, I just know she'd have been pissed if I had gifted her the game at full price ^^' Well, I kinda feel bad now, it would have been better to pay full price and endure her wrath for a few days than having to cope with that sh*t periodically over more than a year.
For professional reasons, we do not share the same place all the time. So, we spend our evenings playing together to make up for it. And tonight is one more evening that won't let us play, because she has to redownload the game TWICE tonight. And she's on a basic DSL connection in the middle of nowhere, so it's gonna take her the whole night. While I do realise this is a very personal reason, I'm quite sure that alot of Steam players would like to cope with ESO issues only instead of topping them with Steam issues.
If something can be done, it should be done as soon as possible. You never know when Steam is going to keep you away from login in again. Well, not counting today, obviously.
I hear ya.. This is not possible in windows.. But ESO in Steam via proton is possible. Something to consider.
Also, get more than one game or type of game to enjoy with your wife when these sort of things happen.
I can confirm that ESO on linux works better without Steam as well, just use DXVK as standalone. Got the 2 versions, Steam and non-Steam and some day I will unlink Steam because to me has no purpose beyond using steam cards.

No idea what op is going on about.I simply must protest. There are no Penguin avatars for me to use in the forums.

Sometimes Steam has issues and it causes issues with ESO. I've experienced it myself back when nobody on Steam could even log in for like a day. IF steam is not working for you, THE STEAM FORUMS is the place to go for help. ZOS forums cant help you with a steam issue IF you have a steam issue. Steam forums are there to help you with steam issues.
