Thoughts on Character Boosts? (Level 50 Boost)

I see many other mmo's that use this method seeing how newer players have to grind champ points anyway... I feel personally it should be added. What do you think?

since you ask, I'd say no. Not that I'd have a freak out session if they added it, but it just doesn't really seem necessary. CP's are universal, so once you actually do get there, you're getting cp's for all of your characters on any one that qualifies. Making the distance from 1-50 takes shockingly small amounts of time in my experience, and I'm a long-time casual player (still only at 560 some odd cp's and I've been playing since early access launch)

I mean, sure, they *could* add it, and it's not like it'd break things overmuch, but I still don't think that standard leveling gameplay or acquisition of cp's is hard enough to warrant a character boost like going from 0-110 in WOW or anything similar.

Pretty pointless in this game, you’d not have enough skill points for a full build, experience in guilds or undaunted and it hardly takes much time to get to 50 anyways

I wouldn't object to it being added, but I think it should only be purchasable if you already have a level 50 character. Not because I think it would be 'pay to win' otherwise, but because I think it would be a bad idea for new players to buy it.

Firstly it could be highly misleading. Selling an item like that gives the impression it's needed, I can imagine some new players would buy it so they can jump straight into the latest content, then find out they could have done that anyway without wasting the extra money.

But we'd also get the exact same problem Guild Wars 2 has as a result of an item like this. There's always topics on their forum from new players who bought the game, used the boost (which in this case comes with the game) and then ran into one of two problems. Either they want to get into end game content but don't have a clue what that is, where to find it or even how to find out, or (worse) they've found their way to max level maps or raids or whatever and can't understand why their awesome new max level character with the impressive looking equipment and skills which came from the boost keeps getting killed by every little thing because they don't have a clue what they're doing and may not even have learned that important abilities like dodging exist.

And I imagine there's many more who don't get as far as asking for help on the forum and just get angry that they've wasted all this money on a stupid game which is impossible to play and quit without ever actually giving it a chance because they skipped absolutely everything which was supposed to help them learn it.

It might work in games where you can expect your equipment to carry you and/or you can simply out-level the content, and where you'll be funnelled into the correct areas for your character, but this is not that game.

It only takes a few days to get to 50, I see this as pointless. Its the skyshards/lorebooks/psyjiic quests that take the time.

It is a good option for players in general and there is no p2w at all.

But it can badly affect new players. A new player comes from the usual mmo, buys this boost to start the “actual content” right away, but cannot even kill mudcrab, because he has no gear, no cp and no low level stat bonus. Most likely it will be an unpleasant first (and maybe the last) impression :D

No for several reasons. First of all, for newer players, leveling a character is a good way to learn how to play that class and get a feel for the flavor. But if you already have a lot of max characters and want to speed level a character, then you can already find different ways to make that 1-50 process much faster anyway.

I also think it could open the door for too many 'convenience' crown store purchases that end up putting the game on a P2W path. Because if we get this, people will continue to ask for more booster stuff.

I think that's a dangerous approach with the Crown store. If they are to add it anyways, they should make it available only after you reach level 50 with your first character, imo.

Until the Champion system is reworked, I feel new players should gain champ points while leveling so that once they hit 50 they are at around 300 CP.

As is, new players are looked upon like they have STD and avoided by most for most activities until they get above 300 CP.

absolutely no point to it. leveling is fast anyways, but more importantly - they are going to have to go through all those quests and all those zones regardless becasue bulk of character growth in ESO is not via pure levels but rather through gathering skill points, leveling skill lines, etc.

I'm fine with this so long as it is character level only and you already got another character to 50.

The reality is that there will still be a lot to do to make that character usable for anything apart from doing crafting writs for full 600+ gold.

It could help speed up leveling undaunted since you can do pledges and vet dungeons right away.

It would also be nice to get max level gear from the start.

The leveling rewards aren't valuable enough to care about compared to the crown cost of the level-up.

I haven’t played GW2 enough to know how tough it is to level from scratch but my first character certainly took longer than getting to 50 in ESO. Here you can get from 0-50 in a few hours which is hardly taxing and you can get your sky shards, mages guild, fighters guild and psijic all at the same time as well - albeit that will take longer than a few hours but nothing too ridiculous.

I disagree with someone who posted above that it’s P2W, It’s not for me as there’s really no benefit in getting to 50 quicker as you will likely end up with a class with not enough skill points to do anything with it and no clue how to play it.

That’s my main issue, people should learn to play their class, enjoy the game and content around them and it will benefit them game more overall.

Adding a boost to a game already this convenient to level would be nothing more than a cash grab

Only if free. Else, it's pay to win. Even if free, it'll enhance people's tendency to play the "flavor of the month" race and build, which will decrease diversity and thereby fun in the game.

Getting one character to Vet 14 rank then deciding to level another and have to do it ALL again with the so called experience points you got back then was a real grind. What we have now is much better but a walk in the park!

Neutral option is missing so I had to choose this :)

The only thing against I can think of, if the fact that it might flood the game with people that thinks that they can get a max level char and start "enjoying" the game only to realize that they still *need* to go zone by zone for the lore books, and skyshards... and do dolmens or grind for fighter's guild too... so, in a way, it'd be a disingenuous option to have on sale, IMHO at least.

No, because then vet players have no reason to re-run old content, and it makes the starter zones a ghost town. Well, it's not so bad in ESO because most of the grind for skyshards requires going through each zone, but that's generally my opinion for most MMOs.
