What is the Value of Finding Lore Books?

A couple of threads I have noticed argued for Lore Books (among other things) should be account wide. Some people argue against that.

This raises the question for me (only playing since last Black Friday with the Summerset deal: What is the value of finding Lore Books past the achievements? Why would anyone oppose those being account wide?

I am not trying to argue the issue here, just figure out what value finding Lore Books adds. I do pick them up when I find them, but I have yet to look explicitly for them.

You need them to level the mage guild skill line.

They raise the mages guild skill line.

To add on this, the Mages Guild skill line gives you access to Magelight, one of the most powerful skills in the game (it's mandatory in every endgame magicka build). The passive skill "Magicka Controller" is also a nice boost to DPS. Shooting Star used to also be the best ultimate in the game. It's not used in PvE anymore as better ults exist now, but it's still good in PvP.

On top of the others, some also raise weapon and armor skill lines. They're like little bonus pickups scattered around the world. That's the argument against them being account wide. They actually give bonuses.

I did not know about the Mage connection. Thanks for the clarifications!

You can read them while some in dungeon if some if afk or waiting for world boss spawn.
    Some of them are fun.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Don’t Mage dailies level that line too? If so you do t need them. I may be wrong though?

You are correct. 10 points for the dalies and 5 for the lorebooks. Definitely not required to level mages guild but a nice boost when you run across them.

Controversial opinion. I wish we didn't all have to slot mage light for a passive effect. I'd much rather that passive effect was moved to a mage guild passive so you can slot any mage guild skill and create some variety.

Yeah but if finding lore books was account wide either new characters would start with that skill line fully levelled because a previous one had found the books, or they'd be unable to use lore books at all and would have to use dailies to level it. I suspect people who want them account wide are expecting the first outcome, but it wouldn't surprise me if ZOS went for the second if this ever happened.
