We can add Psijic skill line, and we can add vampire/werewolf skill lines and remove it at any time. We can change our character's race and swap racial passives. Removing 3 skill lines and adding 3 other skill lines should be possible. I really want to change my main's class. I will not do it by using another character because of mount upgrades and everything else that takes a long time to redo. If the Necromancer class takes my last character slot it will be for writs, events, and occasional dungeons and will not be played as much as it would be if there were a class change option.

You know what I DO mind? MOUNT TRAINING!!!! Because OMG that is the most tedious and time consuming piece of nonsense imaginable. And short of losing my mind and being willing to pay at least ten bucks for ONE tick when it takes like 60 of them across THREE categories EACH... I am NEVER going to do this. Right now, I work on speed so that I'm not screaming at my screen as my "slow pony" plods through those early quests but getting knocked OFF my horse by a passing squirrel is almost as annoying! And I can't even imagine how much that must suck for PVPers who need both maxxed out speed AND stamina in Cyrodiil.

Just an FYI, I just double checked and the 1,000 crowns is for 10 lessons under whichever category, not one.

I've never used them, since I don't mind leveling riding skills over time, and I also saved the ones from the free crown crates for my new Templar, so she started off with 6 speed out of the box.

Has any class-based MMO ever let you change class anyway?

I can list some that I've played with class-change features:

SWG, FF11, FF14, Secret World, Asheron's Call, EVE Online, Arcage, DCUO, Lineage 2, Skyforge, Firefall

    Hope that helps!

Sorry I should have been more specific and said changing class through paid items and not those that have that feature built in to the game like FFXIV.

There is no solid reason not to have a class change token. If they want people to have the “leveling experience” or whatever, make players have a level 50 of that class before a class change token can be used. The “new characters makes people play longer” argument in regards to class change tokens isn’t relevant, as myself and many others have thousands of hours on a single character and are still playing. Actual content increases playtime, and players that mainly play one character mostly aren’t going to be leveling new ones anyway.

The target players for class change tokens and extra character slots are also completely different, so the tokens wouldn’t cannibalize their character slot sales. Nearly everyone I know that has multiple characters has them to play different roles and classes for different content and switch quickly between them. A class change token doesn’t change this at all.

If ZOS is worried about class changing messing up leaderboards, they should just reset your personal leaderboard scores once you switch. They could also refund your skill points and start your class abilities back at 0.

...but there will be an additional character slot and a race change token provided free with the chapter/introduction of the necromancer class ( @ZOS_JessicaFolsom , @ZOS_GinaBruno if this is not true please correct me here!) then I have to wonder why. I have heard it speculated that they CAN'T actually offer class changes because of the limitations of the engine and the way it handles character recognition. If that's the case well, so be it. But I would actually like to know.

There is no technical reason why they can't offer a class change token. They simply choose not to offer it because they think that levelling up multiple characters keeps people playing longer.

Thats a pretty bold statement, do you have a source?

I don't know what would be involved in a class change but man would I love to have the possibility. Sometimes it's nothing more than you're bored with the class but don't want to lose all your progress, achieves, recipes and patterns, etc. It would be wonderful to be able to change your class.

The new class being released in an MMO has been a standard way to bring back players or keep them playing.

From a business sense it makes no sense to allow people to be a Necro with 400 skill points, maxed riding and bank slots and 1200 CP on launch day.

But then it make sens to got a necro army at the release ?
    Not that much.
