So if there's no class change token...

...but there will be an additional character slot and a race change token provided free with the chapter/introduction of the necromancer class ( @ZOS_JessicaFolsom , @ZOS_GinaBruno if this is not true please correct me here!) then I have to wonder why. I have heard it speculated that they CAN'T actually offer class changes because of the limitations of the engine and the way it handles character recognition. If that's the case well, so be it. But I would actually like to know.

And really, here's the thing. I don't mind buying additional character slots. Indeed, I'm maxxed out. So without a new one, someone is gonna have to go come necromancer time. So I am hoping that it's true they're going to gift us with a free one. I don't even REALLY mind leveling up a new character.

You know what I DO mind? MOUNT TRAINING!!!! Because OMG that is the most tedious and time consuming piece of nonsense imaginable. And short of losing my mind and being willing to pay at least ten bucks for ONE tick when it takes like 60 of them across THREE categories EACH... I am NEVER going to do this. Right now, I work on speed so that I'm not screaming at my screen as my "slow pony" plods through those early quests but getting knocked OFF my horse by a passing squirrel is almost as annoying! And I can't even imagine how much that must suck for PVPers who need both maxxed out speed AND stamina in Cyrodiil.

It's bad enough that ZOS has done this to us in the first place. And I SUSPECT it's at least one of the main reasons why so many of us so desperately desire a class change token. But guys, if you CAN'T give us that... then PLEASE consider giving us at least ONE special scroll that will completely maxx out ONE mount in all 3 categories. I'll level a new character. I'll level new and old skill lines. Just please, for the love of the Divines, DON'T MAKE ME LEVEL ANOTHER MOUNT!!!!!!!!!

I do not recall then saying the additional character slots would be free. Maybe I missed that when watching the presentation.

However, Zos has already provided a means for faster mount training in the crown store. Further, with ESO+ members have the means top obtain the training. That does not even mention the free training we got from all those free crate we got last year (sadly those free crates seem to have ended.).

I do not think Zos has any plans to help out with mount training outside of that. If they do not have the plans I do not expect them to reply to this thread since they really have nothing to say.

To be fair, you already used up your eight (8) free character slots, @MornaBaine.

If you’re an altoholic maxed out on character slots, you can always get another account.

Personally, I’m just happy we’re getting a character slot for Elseweyr ... ZOS has hinted (but not confirmed) we might get more than one slot.

Class change tokens aren’t really needed since you can level up a new character in a day’s gameplay.

There is no technical reason why they can't offer a class change token. They simply choose not to offer it because they think that levelling up multiple characters keeps people playing longer.

It was during the post-show stream, 8 and a half minutes in. We get one free slot and can purchase additional ones. They haven't yet decided how many.

I don't know what would be involved in a class change but man would I love to have the possibility. Sometimes it's nothing more than you're bored with the class but don't want to lose all your progress, achieves, recipes and patterns, etc. It would be wonderful to be able to change your class.

I thought they mentioned other changing tokens (class and alliance?) in the post-show stream and said they don't really see a point in doing either or something (which is dumb to me I would love both of those.)

It would have been in the Q&A section but basically I think Rich said they don't want to do either. which sucks. I hope they change their minds. For me, I especially want alliance change so I can just have my chars on the same alliance and so my friend can make her main on the same one that my mains on so we can finally pvp together on the chars we want to progress. (we already have lots of achievements on those chars n such and all our progress in game since those are our mains so remaking isn't really something we want to do.)

Anyway I do believe they said you will get a slot for buying Elsweyr, Though the race change token is for the dungeon DLC update in march I believe? For the racial changes not for anything class related really.

Then you missed the point. 1. I wanted to know if it's true that they CANNOT do a class change because of the engine. 2. If there cannot/will not be the option for a class change then I DO want them to do something regarding mount training AT THE VERY LEAST because if they are determined to introduce more classes it's just ridiculous to expect us to have to redo EVERYTHING all over again when we have characters we'd LIKE to discard but have invested too much time and effort into to do so. It's just too frustrating and time consuming and I would HOPE they are cognizant of that. So it's not so much about "I want a class change token!" as it is, "I want a reasonable way to duplicate my time consuming achievements on characters I will no longer be playing because I want to play a new class but resent having to do the ludicrously too long mount training all over again."

The class change token isn't happening, let it go. It's not happening, period, ever. It doesn't matter if they can, or can't, why they won't or who sings along at birthday parties. It's not happening, period. Move on.

    I doubt that.
In the end, all our characters are are piles of data. It must be possible to change parts of that data, tho I imagine it would require resetting a lot of skill points in the process...

The question is, how much effort this would be to code for them, and that might be quite a bit depending on the engine! Possibly too much to be worth it from their point of view...
    MornaBaine wrote: »
You know what I DO mind? MOUNT TRAINING!!!!
...and THAT is why they sell riding lessons in the crown store.
To make you break down and spend real money on your mountings!

But generally... the announcement of a new class has put a -severe- damper on my ESO enjoyment.
Not because of the mount thing, I care not about that... but because of the "usual suspects", the massive vexation I know I will experience at the thoughts that come with a new character class this late in the game... hating to have to level new characters through all the content I already places fifteen times, hating that old characters which would have made a lot more sense backstory wise as necromancers will stay what they are and I have to come up with new ones to enjoy the classyness...

Really, it is starting to get very, very tenious. its the same issue that made me leave other games, that they stopped being fun because they kept adding new stuff to chase in ways that made people have to either neglect the new or neglect the old they grown to love.
    And that is bad.
I had really hoped they might be smarter then that, but... alas.
Class change tokens aren’t really needed since you can level up a new character in a day’s gameplay.
And that response shows the wit of the poster, or lack thereof, considering the issue was...
    MornaBaine wrote: »
You know what I DO mind? MOUNT TRAINING!!!!
...and all the other things that go with a new character.
Now, I don't really like shortcuts, and I hate those "I should be able to make new characters with all the oppings, without having to spend extra effort" gimme crowd postings... but it IS getting tenious for those people who have been playing the game a LOT and spent a great deal on time on their old characters to face the vexation having to make new characters and do all the things over again, riding training, skillpoint collection, quest completions, crafting research, achievement hunting...

Yes, a lot of that could be migrated with a better selection of "convenience items" in the crown store, from "riding mastery scrolls" to "skyshard collection crystals" or "wayshrine unlock scrolls" or such... at a price (in crowns).

But in the end, this whole question is an indication of how their choices to add classes are a bad design idea. Makes me really wish they had gone with a classless system, and just added skill lines later on, allowing each and every one to choose what they might spend their skillpoints on... and allowing people to respec their characters into new skill configurations if they so choose.
    Alas... paths not taken.

As for us here, we will just have to deal with the way things are. Class change is unlikely to come, and even if they someday change their mind about this, it certainly will not be anytime soon.
So I reckon we old hands will gain little enjoyment from the new class, as it will be tempered by a great deal of vexation.
And we will still have to deal with that.

as much as I dislike leveling undaunted its not nearly as time gated as mount leveling.

I may end up out of desperation buying at least a few of those mount speed packs via crowns to gold exchange... and that is probably whe they will keep mount leveling as tortuously slow as it is right now

I don't have any issue with mount training. I log into 19 girls every day. It takes about a minute per girl to run to the trainer, pay, run back. Then I do crafting on all of them (because I'm a gold ***..... Been in games where you NEVER have enough gold.... ain't hap'nin in this one....)

Of course, my situation is unlike most people: I'm retired, and games like this one are my hobby. I play an average of 8 hours a day. So that means my experience is vastly different than those who have jobs etc. I didn't play MMOs (or even SPMR) games when I was working, plus driving an 80 mile round trip every day.

Hmmmm... Hey ZOS you know what keeps me playing longer? New content! New content that does not require me to WAIT for MONTHS to finish a task that literally requires one click of a button every single day of my life. Or the expenditure of HUNDREDS of dollars if I want to "speed it up." As much money as I DO spend on this game, I've never once bought a mount training scroll and I never will because you've put an unreasonably high price on them and there's no way in hades I am doing that across several characters. I'm just not. Even after playing this game since day one I only have ONE character with a maxxed out mount. I'd love it if you'd reconsider this issue. Really.

    Yes

Could have listed a few examples.
I have been asking myself this question recently and i can't think of a single MMO that has a class change token.
Yes, there are a few games that have class change build into the game itself like for example Final Fantasy XIV, ArcheAge or Skyforge but that's not really the same, since it's literally part of the game and thus has been build for this from the very start.

Not even WoW allows you to change class and WoW has been around for over 14 years.. (Feel old yet?)

In a interview with the german site, mein-mmo.de Rich mentioned some stuff without saying class change token.

Part of the Intervie in German

"MeinMMO: Viele Spieler lieben neue Klassen, haben aber keinen Bock auf einen neuen Twink, den sie ewig hochleveln müssen. Gibt es womöglich bald eine Art Token zum Klassenwechsel bei bestehenden Helden?

Rich: Wir haben da was in der Mache, aber darüber kann ich jetzt noch nichts sagen. Aber wir arbeiten an etwas und wir verstehen, dass die Spieler etwas in der Richtung wünschen."

    Rough Translation

MeinMMO: A lot of players love new classes, but dont wanna grind up the next twink. Is there a possibility to change class via token in the future?"

Rich: We have something we work on, but i cant go into details right now. We work on something and understand that its something that our players wish".

    My opinion.

They follow the cries of the dissatisfied, and in doing so neglect to consider the ones who had been faithful with them from the start, taking them for granted.
The sad bit is, they could have done everything by adding options to refit things to the existing characters. New skill lines instead of a new class. But they didn't. So there we are, dealing with the vexation that has brought before and will bring now... I know my incentive to spend more effort any money on the game is rather diminished. And I am really considering if I even should preorder the whole thing as usual, or just... not.
    Oh, well.

The new class being released in an MMO has been a standard way to bring back players or keep them playing.

From a business sense it makes no sense to allow people to be a Necro with 400 skill points, maxed riding and bank slots and 1200 CP on launch day.
