Where are these icons from?

I mean weren't we already prettu sure about Necromancers? The datamine was quite clear about that.

The better question is what are the first two icons on the left side in the second row.

Well, the two top right and the two bottom left icons look almost identical from their layout/colouring. Like they represent schools of magic and not classes. I mean the icon right next to the Templar one looks absolutely not like Warden.





But haven't they been here like forever? Don't think they are new but I'm not sure.

I wouldn't call them icons - I'd call them avatar choices.... At least that's where I remember seeing most of them.

the 2-5 th icon is DK, nightblade , sorc, templar. And then the bit where you circle are definition of that nightblade ability, which is excecutioner or disabler. You can see icon of DK it's like dragon claw, then after that is daedric symbol of negative energy that is sorc, and again deadric symbol but it's centered which is positive so it's should be templar, since it's more like azura powered.

The icons 2, 3, 4 and 5 are undoubtedly the official class icons for Dragon Knight, Nightblade, Sorceror and Templar. 6-9 look like runic symbols representing schools of magic... or they're just runes. 9 could be the symbol for Conjuration, 7 could be Necromancy or Mysticism.

Yeah it's the symbol for School of Conjuration; "Necromancy" skills were categorized under that school (in Skyrim).

The very center icon in the middle on the necromantic conjuration circles is close to the School of Conjuration's image, which is more accurately shown as


The most accurate description of the center icon of those circles would be the Daedric letter "O" which was also used as the main game image for Oblivion.

The book "Proposal: Schools of Magic" by Gabrielle Benele, which references the classification system used at Shad Astula, also includes Necromancy under Conjuration.

The avatar icon shown on the top, second from the right... the center of the circle's image looks like the sign seen over the Thieves Guild entrances. The same one used for Fences. But this version has the two side prongs cut off and covered by the additional runes of the whole circle.

If I had to guess, I'd say the icon on the top right is the new Class icon for Necromancers and that the icon to its left, as well as the two on the bottom left, are supposed to represent the three skill lines coming for Necromancers.

I don't recall there being any icons for whole skill lines. Just individual skills. But they're definitely going to be pushing their new class and hyping every little bit of it.

Another alternative is they could symbolize Conjuration rings for other types of spells besides the necromantic variety. But that doesn't explain why they've done previous classes in that same style. Most likely they just made them because they look cool and we're reading too much into it.

I found an in-game example of the icon on the top row, second from the right.



It's used as a warding sigil. This pic was taken in Southpoint during The Grip of Madness quest.

On of those icons reminds me of the rune on the ground for Frozen Device skill.

Here's an in-game example of the spell glyph that has the Templar icon in the middle:

For comparison, it can be seen in the OP's pic, top row, third from the right.

The icon appeared at their feet as they started healing an ally, so it could arguably be for a templar spell or something of the Restoration school.

Just a side thought, if they ever did bring Spellcrafting it would be pretty cool, and easy, to line up the 6 classes with the 5 schools of magic (yup, that's how I meant to say it), by giving each class a School affinity appropriate to them.

• Templars - Restoration
• Dragonknights - Destruction
• Sorcerers - Conjuration
• Nightblades - Illusion
• Wardens - Alteration (remember back to the old games where the alteration school symbol is a tree caught between seasons, it's very fitting as Wardens deal with nature and Alteration changes natural things between their different states).
  
• Necromancers - the Conjuration subschool of Necromancy

It appears the spell glyphs shown in the OP which contain the class symbols are already being used in-game in a similar manner.

Yeah they are just spell circles from the game, not sure there's more that could be said.

The real question is why we haven't had new avatars added to the forum since Morrowind.

don't know about all the others but the five before the one circled have the symbols of Dragonknight, Nightblade, Sorcerer, Templar, and (maybe)Warden

The circled image has been my forum pic ever since i became a "1vX" hunter.. it means death is coming, haha.

Also, i think it is about necromancy. Was hoping we would get a necromancer class when chose it as a forum picture.

A warding symbol that locks a door... like the Lock spell from Alteration School? 🤔

Aren't they just runes seen cast on idle animations of necromancers and wizards in game, I think I've seen a few as runes on walls and warding doors in some quests and dungeons too.
