Well, people could call them "easy dungeon mob packs that you have to work your way through before yo can reach the next boss", but "trash mobs" is shorter. :)

^^^ Pretty much that. They are the filler. Not the main goal.

Well designed trash can be a challenge during the early days working on a new trial hence why there has been guilds in multiple games called Wipes on Trash.

I am wondering if there is an issue with these fights if people rant run right past them. Isn't a game supposed to be fun?

Don't expect everyone else's definition of fun to conform to yours.

I absolutely cannot abide normal trials and I only ever go if a guildie realllly needs gear - so.

They are trash cause they are enemies of little value, cannon fodder, sent often in large waves to me mowed threw like wheat to a sythe. Some dungeons and trials to use more elite monsters instead of the cannon fodder type but the name is already stuck in main stream gaming vocabularies and it's not like they got much in terms of good loot or anything. The bosses are what we are after, that being said trash mobs also adds flavor and a sense of progression, removing them is not always a good idea, many people for example hate the mini trials we got for this reason as it's just too short. Though one should as well not over do it like in Sanctum Ophidia where the trial is just trash after trash after trash. Moderation is key.

Wipes-on-Trash would be an amazing Argonian tank name.

You misunderstood. I meant should the fights be more exciting then or provide more vaule for people.

One fun way to deal with trash mob is to pull them all with you behind an corner further ahead in dungeon and kill them with AoE, this require some communications as in all follow tank and do lots of AoE then he stops.
This also work in delves and public dungeons however here enemies run back after less than 100 meter.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

There's really no way to make dungeon mobs really interesting. ZOS tried to introduce boss mechanics with some trash mobs, starting with HotR dungeons but that just made dungeons more tedious instead of fun, IMO, especially on vet when these mechanics 1 shot you. They're filler with little purpose to them, other than dragging on the length in dungeons and while they'll occasionally drop a set piece, it's nowhere near often enough to warrant dealing with them, even more so now that most DLC dungeon sets are fairly lackluster with only a handful of exceptions.

It's honestly the lack of trash mobs that make AS and CR my favorite trials.

Trash mobs are low level fodder - a enemy that is not a boss.

I guess I'm alone in my love for mowing down hordes of trash mobs. I find it pretty fun, cathartic almost. Plus it's tons of fast XP.

What if you got a score for killing them in a special way?

They are called trash because of the loot they drop. Typically in MMO your non boss NPC enemies will drop either a small amount of gold or maybe a low-level potion.

Over the years "trash dropped from non-boss mobs" got shortened to trash
Tl;dr really weigh the fun you have in game vs the business practices you are supporting.
