I will try to help the OP- all lock tumblers are set be in one of four states of being depressed. Position 1 is about 25% down. Position 2 is about 50%. Position 3 is at 75%. Position 4 is 100% pressed fully down. Each tumbler will begin to vibrate when you press it down to one of those positions- at that point you stop pushing or you will break your pick.

The tumblers can be in any combination of those 4 states on each one. The more advanced the chest, the shorter the timer and the higher the likelihood will be that your pick will snap if you try to power past the set point on that tumbler. Ledgermain skill can help, but practice will give you a "feel" for it once you understand the basics. Once you know where those stop points are on each tumbler, you can just mash them to a set point until you see it shake, then let go and move onto the next one pretty fast. You can also practice on locked doors in some places. I hope this helps you.

If not here put it in eastmarch zone chat, there will be someone who is an longer term player who is not doing all of the quests but wants an easy event ticket - so looking for that quest in particular.

Yep. I can break several picks on a simple chest because of 2000 ms lag. Frustrating....

Lockpicking is beyond easy. You just need to get a hang of it. I got the five finger cat burglar achievement on that quest without even trying. -_-

If I were you I'd invest 4 points into the locksmith passive under the Legerdemain skill line (it's under the World skills). Will be the best 4 points you ever spend from the sound of it. O.o

While most characters I did that quest on have the passives to force the locks effectively, I have not had any issues with the characters I had to slowly pick the locks. Not sure what issue OP experienced.

You can group up to do quest if you ate struggling. I was remembered I suffered the first year doing it too. It's not easy for everyone especially if this first mmo or something.

I pick the locks and have no problem finishing before the timer runs out, but I also have been picking locks for several years now.

Funny, I break one lockpick per three chests, and still have yet to fail to open them all in time... maybe its you?

But as has been said... legerdemain, and force lock, or groupings, or just learning the lockpicking system (I was terrible at it too in the beginning, but then... I learned!) there are several ways around this issue.

Although, I personally -would- love to see the thives guild sell some "Alohomora" scrolls that magically open any chest or door lock in every outlaw refugee for a hefty price, just for the people who find lockpicking in ESO too difficult to learn...

For me with over a dozen toons have gone through all 9 events each and no issue so far this round. Sounds a bit exaggerated on your part, but it may be human error or a bad bug or glitch. If you feel it could be a bug or something, then this thread should be posted on the bug section, or submit a support ticket.

I find it is easy to have too heavy a finger on the mouse button and miss a few tumbler shots. I think it has to do somewhat with muscle memory and combat where I tend to smash keys and buttons which is the opposite of what's needed for chests. The funny part is the harder the chest the easier it is for me to keep a light touch.

It is mostly practice. I've never learned the force lock skill on any character, so I've opened a largish number of locks in total. The result is that I don't have issues even with Master locks in trials, where the latency is somewhat less consistent than in other places.
