...and I believe ESO may have something to do with it.

Ok, let me explain: Since Wednesday, I've had issues with my laptop (which is specifically built for gaming) going super slow, as if my computer was infected by a virus. Suffice to say, I'm not happy about my slow computer, which has already caused me to lose a couple fights in-game.

Then things came to a head on Sunday: Shortly after progressing a quest which involved me and an NPC engaging in a bet involving alcoholic drinks (which I DO NOT recommend attempting), my character and the NPC in question apparently had quite the hangover. Unfortunately, it appears my UPC power backup chose to have a hangover as well, and failed for a moment, which caused my laptop to perform several partial uninstallations of various games before completely shutting down the computer. As ESO was the only thing open at the time and there were no other programs running in the background besides my Internet security, I firmly believe ESO was the direct cause of my UPC having what I'm calling a "momentary seizure."

So therefore, I am imploring the devs at ZOS to look into their servers and do some troubleshooting, because I believe there is a virus that infected their servers, leading to my computer getting infected, which ultimately led to my power backup having a momentary seizure.

Sorry if this isn't grounded in fact or if this post sounds stupid, but as I have final exams coming up and stress levels at my college campus is through the roof, my tiredness is leading to increased irritability/irrationality. And my computer's performance over the past week is not helping my irritability in the slightest.

Rant done. Lord Arena25 out.

Signed,

Lord Arena25

Just because I downloaded the installer direct from Zeni's website, doesn't necessarily means ESO or myself is immune from viruses.

And again, none of this may be true...but again, when people get tired, they get irritable/irrational. And irritable people sometimes can't ground the stuff they write in fact.

I've seen computers become slow when people are trying to do things while an anti-virus software is scanning the computer. Could this be the case?

The idea of a virus from any source infecting your UPC is fairly preposterous.

I actually have had exactly this issue with Malwarebytes in the last month. In fact, I went so far as to accuse my ISP (Wildblue/Exede/Viasat) of intentionally throttling me due to being somewhat over my limit. They accommodated me by giving me an upgrade without charging me any more per month. Things were back to normal.... except I was still seeing huge jumps in usage which I could not account for with this game.

Finally dug around enough (WireShark FTW!) to realize that Malwarebytes was spending nearly 24 hours every day attempting to update - and not ever really getting updated, but also failing to indicate that it wasn't updating. After some discussion on their forum, I got an updated and working repair tool, which did eventually allow MB to actually update. However, the real time protection is still using a lot of bandwidth so I just open MB to update and scan daily, then disable it again.

I apologized profusely to Viasat, and offered to pay the full amount for the larger package. They were kind enough to insist they didn't want me to do that as I've been with them for nearly 12 years, and have always been a very satisfied customer.

OP, get WireShark or a similar utility and see what's going on background.

I'm not certain what types of services your campus offers, but you probably should have explored those options before letting the problem intensify to a critical point. If they offer computer/device support, contact that person in the morning. Schedule an appointment with a dean or student adviser on Thursday and just let it all out. They know people ugly cry in December for a whole lot of reasons, all perfectly normal and part of the process.

It's hard to say what may have gone wrong. Public campus networks can be problematic. Windows has a lot of garbage running in the background. And even one corrupted file or altered registry entry can create a massive headache. But if you can, let a campus professional figure that out for you.

I'd personally hit the gym or a ball court if I were this stressed out, but I know that's not for everyone. Maybe find a really bad movie to watch? I'm going to say Twilight. Not even the first one. Start on the third one because you'll be lost and bored.

    Then tomorrow's a new day.

FWIW, the problem could well be with your UPS. If you were playing ESO, your laptop was probably pulling a lot of power from the wall. If your UPS battery is old, or your computer pulls more power than the UPS is rated for from the outlet, you could experience crashes or bluescreening.

It happened to me years ago when I'd purchased a cheap UPS and tried to play games on my desktop. Since then, I've made sure my UPS units were rated equally with my power supply. I haven't had that issue since.

A few days ago my mobile phone fell on the floor and I tried to pick it up.
While doing so I hit the edge of my laptop screen with my eye, which is black now.
Since I was playing ESO while that happened I demand a compensation from ZOS now

This makes no sense. Why on earth would your UPC Power backup begin uninstalling games like that? And to suggest that ESO is the cause.... that's even more nonsensical.

More importantly it's a game, your education should be top of your list rather than a game, so my sugesstion would be, until your final exams are done, and to stop increased irritability/irrationality & over tiredness dont play the game.

    Simple really
