Event Fatigue

Hey guys! I love the events in ESO, and I look forward to some all year long. But, since October, it feels like there has been one non-stop event after the other.

Maybe spread the love out a little? I hope the intent isn't to keep going with a "special" event every couple of weeks next year, because that will definitely make them un-special.

I'm aware I don't actually have to participate and I feel kinda weird bringing this up because YAY thanks for giving us cool stuff to do, but for those who feel compelled to do ALL THE THINGS, it's getting a bit exhausting. I kind of miss just being able to quest and chill, instead of feeling like I need to race from daily chore to daily chore on all my alts to keep up with whatever is going on.

At the very least, please give us a GLOBAL RESET for all daily and weekly coffers if you're going to tie event rewards to them. Thank you!

I played for about 2 1/2 years after launch and don't remember a single event back then. Not one. Oh, the good old days :)

Events - just like dailies - are giant traps that are very rarely done right. ESO does them very poorly indeed. They stick a carrot in front of players that keeps rewarding them the more players do the same thing over and over again. This gets people to log in and makes the numbers shine on ZOS' side, but on the players' side it becomes repetitive and a focus of discontent, especially when players need to compete for certain goals (e.g. nodes) or cooperate for them (e.g. dungeon runs).

I'm not doing the Undaunted event. Other games have come out recently that I am investing my time in, and the nature of this event means it wouldn't have taken much to get me to say "no thanks." It's not that I don't like running dungeons. I love running dungeons from time to time. But I hate getting most of the DLC dungeons, and I really don't want to go to the trouble of cancelling ESO+ to get them out of my randomized dungeon roster just for this event. Thus, I'm ignoring the event and playing other games.

Reasons why we really, really need an option for ESO+ members to opt-out of the dungeon DLCs.

Do we know this? We got the schedule of these four events together, mapping out the next quarter.

If we're moving from feathers to berries for the Indriks, I've gotta think there will be more events to grind through to earn them.

I wouldn't be surprised if, come January, we have a new slew of events through Jester's.

I'd even be ok if they tied rewards to accounts and not character. I get too greedy when I have the option to do it per character. But honestly, so do a lot of other people lol. If the boxes were once per account a lot of the problems with people fighting over scarce resources or mobs, and the dungeon finder load and people changing dungeons or running on undergeared, unprepared characters wouldn't be an issue.

Also, since it appears you can evolve the Indrik and then get a new vanilla one, more and more tickets will be required to rebuy feathers.

Are there any DLC anniversaries coming up?

    The events are usually:
    Witches (Halloween)
    Undaunted
    New Life (Winter Holidays)
    Jesters
    Anniversary (April)
    Midyear Mayhem (July/August)
    And the DLC anniversaries.

Could ZOS add more? Sure. But those are the ones they previewed on the PTS.

So if you want to know what's upcoming, pay attention to the PTS.

Also, I'd put money on the fact that we're setting up for a nice little gold sink and a temper-tantrum and a half from the community.

Exhausted? No problem. Here, buy your feathers/berries with gold (or crowns) at some exorbitant price.

According to PTS, we are only half way through the event schedule previewed so far. They released six events on PTS and we are only through two so far. They let us test CwC and Undaunted, which have already passed and/or underway. New Life is already established as happening the last half of the month. The other three they let us preview were the Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, and Morrowind Events. In addition to this, they clearly stated the "Mid Year Mayhem" would be coming back soon. (Which questions why call it 'Mid Year' if it happens in the first quarter :D:D ) As you previously stated, the Jesters and Anniversey events all happen in the first half of the year as well. So that is what.... six events on the table for the first half of the calendar year and does not include the 1st Quarter DLC and the big Chapter, which I would guess would happen at the end of Q2.

Sorry to say to OP who says they feel event fatigue but I imagine that these events will become more of a staple to the calendar.

There is the link to the PTS page in which details the events they let us test...

Yea it feels nonstop between the murkmire prologue, murkmire release, and 4 events. Add to that the events are becoming convoluted and even broken, things are feeling very grindy and tedious.

I've been ok with it, but then I'd already experienced burning myself out by endlessly farming events in other games and gotten into the habit of deciding in advance what I want and what I'm willing to do and sticking to that instead of getting carried away with trying to do as much as possible.

For the Undaunted event for example I did 1 dungeon a day until I had the feather and 11/12 tickets (I forget how it worked out that way, but that's the point I stopped) and then stopped. In between I did other things I wanted to do, either in ESO or other games/hobbies. And that's on top of days when I couldn't play at all even if I wanted to because I wasn't at home.

Admittedly it's difficult if you really, really want one (or more) of the random rewards. I know someone who has been doing dungeons on all his characters every day because he really wants the Grand Torpal Hideaway and heard it can drop from mystery boxes. But that's where you need to weight up whether you really want it enough to go all out, and maybe take a break from the game afterwards, or accept that you may not be able to get that reward.

They only make things people want account based so this will likely happen at some point. Everything else like Skyshards, motifs and crafting... Well, I'm max CP and still have not mastered any of my crafts, Idk how people do it on multiple characters, I only have so much time to play and when I do, I just do not have the patience to spend It crafting...

I know that I have started to feel burnt-out on events. In the past I've skipped out on the events that don't interest me and it hasn't felt like a big deal. Right now though, trying to earn the Indrik mount makes even the events that I like feel like an obligation and a chore.

I participated a lot in the Witch's Festival and it was mostly enjoyable. It felt a little repetitive toward the end but that was OK because it was ending.

When the CWC event started though I tried to participate during the first couple of days but I got burnt out so quickly with competing with other players over quest nodes or standing around waiting for a world boss to spawn only to have an incredibly boring 5 second fight because there were 30 or so people also waiting to kill the boss at the same time. Normally I would have ignored this event but I wanted to work toward the Indrik mount. Even then, I got fed up and stopped doing anything for the event and gave up on getting the tickets from it. With the event going on though, it seemed much more difficult to find people to do the content I enjoy, trials and dungeons, so I just ended up playing other games for the rest of the event.

With the undaunted event, I've been enjoying lots of 4 man dungeons but I can't help but feel a little resentful that I'm obligated to participate in the event in order to get the Indrik mount. If this event didn't revolve around content that I already enjoy I probably wouldn't be bothering with it.

I don't know yet if I will participate in the Newlife event but I can already say that I'm not excited about having another event so soon. I'm also really dreading the possibility of another big block of back to back events after Newlife is over.

Events are like sweets, the right amount can be a delight, too much will make you sick, and being force fed too many will make you dread having them again.

Don't forget the monthly grind for undaunted styles that will not be available any more after the event ends. We literally have an event every month, in parallel with other events...

Then another factor contributing to burn out and FOMO are the daily login rewards that always had something too good to pass up in previous months (I'm glad December stuff is just cosmetic, though if I had my way it would be just currencies there if they absolutely had to stay at all).

ZOS really tries to get engaged players to burn out as fast as possible by putting time limits on things they might have wanted to try and get at a later time, but are forced to farm *now* or they might not get those things at all.

Grind is bad, but intentionally making the grind time limited to increase its intensity is downright abuse.

It depends on the event. Clockwork City was manageable as you only had to kill the Imperfect or the Crows WBs to get your reward. This Undaunted is fine as I'm usually doing at least one daily whenever I jump on. The first one was a grind, but only because they handed out one measly ticket a day.

I can't say I'm looking forward to the New Life event. I seem to recall having to do 5-6 mini quests which had you jumping all over the map running down annoying things which took about 30 minutes. I'll probably do it while waiting for dungeons or trials, but not happy about grinding again.

Yeah ESO has a real 4th quarter clog. Not necessarily bad design overall but I'd have preferred the undaunted event to be in like February so things were spread out more.

It's been really nice for me who doesn't do the events every day. It's given me an opportunity to catch up. That's probably why they've increased the ticket count on every subsequent event -- it's so that people who don't participate every day don't get too left behind.

Sometimes I don't wanna do the event every single day. Maybe I have a series, movie or book to catch up on, or I hang out with friends and family. I've scaled back on my ESO play time recently and have been feeling more free to do other things. Since the holidays are coming around soon, a lot of people will probably be spending a lot of time doing holiday things IRL. The New Life Festival is long enough and plentiful in the goodies it offers so you can afford to miss days but still enjoy what it offers.

I mentioned in another thread that these are likely just things to keep people busy through the holidays. What amazes me is people think they HAVE to do them because of some extra rewards. I prefer to look at them as nice bonuses if I do them because I just happened to want to.

I barely participated in the undaunted event. Just didn't feel like doing it. Because of the group being broken more often than not, I just ran FG1 solo for the tickets. I think I did 3 or 4 random normals the whole time.

Actually no as the gold coast and thieves guild event runs in March

I do love events and it's nice to get free stuff, it's noticeable that the game gets much busier but I feel a lot of people get burned out through FOMO (fear of missing out).

Also after the extended anniversary event the motif market has crashed and never really recovered. Maybe better if future events dropped some other stuff (and I don't mean cosmetic mounts and pets)

You just need to get to the point where you're not compelled to have to do them.

They should be optional bonuses, something different. If it gets to the point where you loathe and despise and the only thing you look forward to is the end, it tends to backfire.

Do them if you enjoy them. Don't if you don't. But don't go chasing the carrot at full speed simple because the carrot is there.

I believe Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood anniversary will come between New Life and Jesters' Festival. Not sure why... I have a vague recollection of a ZoS podcast or comment that TG/DB was tenatively scheduled Jan/Feb. Something about moving it up from March.

I had every intention of getting over myself and running through random normal dungeons on as many characters as possible for the entire event. I did 2 the first night and had a lot of fun. But then life happened and I have had enough excitement to last me the rest of the year. I have taken a step back from even much time in Cyro, because I just can't handle the energy of it right now. So I'm gathering skyshards and doing writs, real lowkey and usually not very exciting stuff. But its all I can handle right now. Basically, if the world hadn't tried to shake my town to the ground I would have participated. I planned on it. I like all the events, and some even push me outside of my comfort zone. Maybe next year I'll get it together and start doing more dungeons with strangers.
