[solved] Problem with 1005 error

While intalling today's patch I got a 1005 error, like this:

Never had problems with these before. So I tried running the launcher as an admin and whitelisting it on my antivirus but the error persisted. Then I tried to use the repair function but after verifying my files the error popped up again. After that, the launcher became unresponsive. Whenever I start it now the 'play' button shows up just like it's supposed to but I can't click on it and I can't even try to download the patch anymore.

Since I'm on Steam, could this be related to the current login issues?
Anyone else getting this?

Edit: Allright I found a fix myself! Will try to describe it in case this happens to anyone else.
So after browsing through my ESO files I realised that the game application itself (eso64.exe) had corrupted, denying all access even with administrator rights. It didn't even allow me to view the access permissions. I can't do anything with it, no deleting, moving, renaming, nothing. Since I'm no computer expert I have no idea how to repair it so I improvised and found a very simple workaround. I moved my entire steam folder to a new location, except the broken file. The next time I launched ESO it would boot from the new location which misssed the corrupted file. Ran the launcher's repair funtion again which downoaded a new eso64.exe - game running, problem solved!

Still looking for a way to remove the broken file though. Doesn't do any harm now but I want it gone.

Completely close out of ESO and Steam. Pull up task manager (Ctrl Alt Delete), go to processes tab and look for any process resembling ESO or Steam.

With any you find, right click, End Process. Then reboot and try again.

Sometimes multiple instances of Steam/ESO will come up, but one will hang. If the one that hangs has opened a relevant file, trying to update, it may refuse access to the good process and produce your error.

This assumes your on PC and nothing has significantly changed with Antivirus, nor have you manually moved any files or changed permissions prior to the install.
Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

@Merlin13KAGL Good idea, thank you! I tried it but sadly that wasn't the problem. The launcher is still not downloading and showing the broken 'play' button instead.

I didn't move any files and all settings are the way they always used to be. It's been a while since my PC updated the last time and all recent patches installed without a problem.
