Add russian zone chat?

There's been a breakout of Russian speakers on PC EU writing in Russian in the zone chat.

Everybody else makes the effort to speak in English or write in the appropriate language zone chat but Russians don't have one. It's gotten quite annoying and alienating seeing the chat filled with incomprehensible characters 1/3rd of the time.

Can we get a Russian zone chat already?

To be honest, default Russian font is hideous and intrusive, messages take like three times more space
But there is an add-on: https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1442-RuESOChat-BetterCyrillicFonts.html

Also, most noticeable are guild advertisings, and those usually go into common zone chat

This topic has come up many times before, and ZOS would rather lock the threads and pretend everything is fine and dandy, than do something about the problem. As usual, Americo-centric ZOS doesn't give a dime about the EU server or its woes.

In the mean time, you can use the Mute List addon and put them all on ignore. Unlike the ingame function, the addon has an unlimited ignore function. It really does make zone chat much more bearable and pleasant, like in the past before the massive Russian influx.

However, it is not addon authors' job to fix problems for ZOS, and it's shameful that ZOS refuses to do anything about it. At least opening a Russian zone chat would mean funnelling some of the spam into there instead, and you could inform the Russians that they have their own language chat now.

A simple option to filter out/mute/ignore all Cyrillic chat would also work.

As for all the SJW/politically sensitive people on the US servers who have no idea about what goes on in the EU server, perhaps you should just refrain from commenting on this topic, in an attempt to create a heated political debate and get the thread locked.

Belarusian, Rusyn, and Ukrainian players would probably have reservations about using a "Russian" chat as opposed to an "East Slavic" one, even though it would still be four languages.

Cyrillic characters do not necessarily mean Russia. And not all schools in Europe teach multiple languages to their students. The "annoying and alienating seeing the chat filled with incomprehensible characters" works both ways.

It's worse enough that the game supports Cyrillic characters at all... ZOS should issue an update so that when they type in Russian, it makes it look like this: ¢wºš'jئzØ^ì±ªârL!¢jڝÛ(ŸhÁ«šŠí

So they start using English or something. The game doesn't even come in Russian to begin with...

No offence against any group of people, but everyone tries to speak in English, even I do and it's not my native language, only they ignore this.

I am Japanese, silly. Learn more then one language or not. Though I can understand how they feel. We had to learn English in our schools early on and in juku too but yet most interactions in this game are in English. After seeing this post I think they would have more reasons not to bother with English at all.

But when your language is in Cyrillic (like mine), you can read it and tell which one is it. Basically every time I see Cyrillic, it's always been Russian. Belorussian, Russian and Ukrainian are pretty much the same except for minor differences, you won't see any other Cyrillic language being used, because the other people try to speak in English.

I don't care about the zone chat, it is meant to be everyone's, if you want to speak pure-english then you'll learn that the channel "/enz" is waiting for you ;D
(I agree the default font does not do justice to the cyrillic letters)

But what I find very annoying, is that ZoS still didn't learn to SORT PEOPLE ACCORDING TO THEIR NATIVE LANGUAGE into the Megaserver phases for gods sake it's been like 4 bloody years we're waiting for this feature ! :')

Japanese is even more backward. They have foreign words in Katakana, native words and Hiragana and also use the Chinese letters that they call Kanji. Latin and Cyrillic are identical in their origin and reasoning behind it. Both originate from the Greek alphabet, which originates from the Phoenician alphabet.

I know some Russian and all the chat in Cyrillic I've seen since I started playing has been in Russian, or Ukrainian, or Belorussian, they are 99% the same language. If you know one of these languages, then you know the other as well, in fact Ukrainian and Belorussian are Russian dialects that have eventually become actual languages. Kind of like how Macedonian is a dialect derived from Serbian and Bulgarian.

What is more annoying is when I'm on a pug and if there are russian speakers who make no attempt to write in english. This is an international server. Everyone uses english to communicate. There's nothing elitist about it...it's just practical. But the only guys/ girls I encounter in pugs not attempting to use it are russian speakers. And sorry, not knowing the language is a weak weak excuse. Though I admit am a native speaker, I have a bunch of friends from all over europe in game who are non-native speakers and they all make the effort.

IF you're not pugging, speak whatever the *** you like. I don't care. But a DLC group dungeon needs communication and why the heck are you in there if you can't communicate with other players in the group. I see cyrillic in group chat and its WGT, I'm out of that group faster than you can say Stalin's nickers.

When they speak in Russian, it's obvious they aren't trying. If they are attempting to speak in English, then they are respecting everyone else who is trying which is commendable. You can't tell people's nationality by the way the speak English, why are you making an issue of that. It was never an issue.

Why would you write in /z if not to speak to the people in zone? If you want to get understood by everyone in /z just use English, that's the international language.

Most of the time when I see French it's only in /frzone and I bet German speakers have the same thing from /dezone and that's correct because the people who write there want to be understood by the people who speak their language. Yet the two main language in /z is English and Russian go figure.

Why would anyone not want ZOS to add /ruzone?
PS: thanks for the addons I'll try those out

I haven't noticed a growing number of Russians in particular, but I've noticed that a lot more people are indeed speaking their native languages. I used to see mainly English in zone chat, whereas now it's filled with different languages.

I've been in a few PUGs where only one person knows Russian and types nothing but Russian in group chat. Sadly the only Russian words I'm familiar with is привет (hello) and спасибо (thanks), but it's enough to understand that they're trying to communicate with the rest of us to some extent.

If you are on PC and this really annoys you (personally I don't have problems with that) there is an addon called "Cyrillic Chat Filter" - it filters out any chat message that contains Cyrillic font so you don't even see those message if they clutter the chat for you.

Haven't installed it for a long time so I don't know if it works with the current version of the game:

Most of the Russians spamming zone chat with ugly heroglyphs probably don't bother to think that this is considered a spam for the others. By doing this they show me they don't really care for the others and give a *** about what others think. At least that's my understanding.

Cyrillic is just unintelligible for other nations. And nobody will learn Russian in response for the spam.

They should be given a separate RU chat, so others wouldn't be bothered about this issue anymore and peace will be among us. Please make it so, ZOS.
