Who's bright idea was it to make skills unchangable in combat?

like what the hell zos? we have had combat bugs since day 1 where you cant get out for ever and you put this in?
now you cant switch skills for 30mins plus at a time.... as if the lag wasnt already annoying enough

i have no words for your failures this patch, this game dying so fast its almost funny

There has always been a degree we could not change skills in combat, We needed to avoid taking damage, maybe go to other side of area, then change the skill

Zos just made it harder. It is unfortunate they took the steps they made even though they choose to not fix the in combat bug that has plagued this game to varying degrees since beta. It is in the upswing now. I sat out of combat, and out of view of combat for over 2 minutes in PvP today before combat dropped. I did not even see any around me when I went into combat. It is really laughable.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I think it is clear that Zos needs to fix the in combat bug when making such changes. It is rather logical.

The one bug they manage to fix is the one bug the players don't want them to fix. Gg ZoS

I've never been able to swap skills during combat.

Mind you, combat seems to last a lot longer than the supposed 6 seconds after active combat ends these days.

So the problem is the bug - combat lasting much longer than intended. Not being able to swap skills in actual combat is fine, even required thanks to PC add-ons.

I have to know more details. Is the game placing you "in combat" when you are not in combat? Because you have never (as long as I know) been able to switch skills while in actual combat. It explicitly says so.

Not being able to slot siege to the quick bar is also extremely annoying. I bought oil to help defend and I could not use them :/

When its happened to me in PVP, I had been in combat, broke off combat, and ridden away - sometimes even into the nearest keep - and had neither attacks nor heals over time running and yet would still be in combat. This could last for 20 seconds to about 2 minutes, though it sounds like others have experienced longer times. I've had this happen solo, small group, and large group and each time I was/we were certain that no actual combat was taking place and it was certainly no longer than the 6 seconds it supposed to take to get out of combat.

Its enormously frustrating, because you can't use the Cyrodiil Transitus Shrines either. So you see a keep come ubder attack, but you can't port to save it even though you are sitting right at the shrine, not fighting anyone, because you or your group is stuck in combat with no one.

@VaranisArano That makes sense. I've had the same, and sometimes it happens in PVE, although rarely. I've never seen it last for 30 minutes though as the OP said. That sounds like a glitch

In Cyro you're in combat 24/7, so you're not longer able to slot and use speedbuff between riding to keeps. If you're lucky enough to be out of combat and slot it, you enter combat if one of your group mates is already fighting 100m away, so you can't unslot it

Well, its normal for that to happen when one of your groupmates gets into actual combat. If your friends starts attacking the enemy, you will be stuck in combat too,

The bug is that your group can be stuck in combat when actual combat ended a long time after the last attack/HOT happened. I've had the entire group standing around a shrine in the inner keep for a least a minute, no fighting, and still stuck in combat.

Let us swap skills once we, personally, have not done damage or taken damage for a few seconds like it used to be. It makes ZERO sense that we get locked out because a someone else miles away is fighting.

Not to mention it’s an extreme inconvenience

I've ported from nikel where I was fighting to bleakers and was still stuck in combat forever.

Changing skills in combat is heavily exploitable, especially when you're using addons.
For example "Dressing Room" changes my bars with a single hit of a button. Theoretically you could use every skill in combat.

I'm glad op started this thread. This weekend's PVP was blighted by this in combat bug. Switching from offense to defense necessitates rejigging most of your quickslots. Our raid was thwarted almost constantly due to not being able to access the correct siege. Also, not being able to mount for 2 minutes is being infuriating when you're trying to race to the action.

I would argue this goes much further than a quality of life issue you need to work around by planning your quickslots ahead. It's adding a level of stress and frustration to what's supposed to be a fun game of swift paced, ebb and flow combat.

It is standard in MMO's that you can not switch skills while considered in combat.

Now if you are getting stuck in that mode, then that is entirely different. Correctly posting about the issue will help to get it solved, least will not muddy the waters and get you discounted.

Ir makes perfect sense if others in the group are still actively in combat.

The ability in a game that is designed with limited action bars to swap skills while in combat has the potential for abuse written all over it, which is doubtless why ZOS don't permit it.

If there's a bug over the combat cooldown then that needs reporting and fixing, but the principle of not allowing skill changing while the player or the group is in active combat is something else altogether.
