Not often, unless I'm queued with a random group for dungeons. Recently I've also been playing with random people for trials and arenas, though. I don't have friends that play the game, so yeah... I'm usually solo.

Some weeks I just login to do writs and mat farm + sell, because I have not much time to sink into ESO. There's also the other weeks when I join zone chat trials and vet pledges + random normals with guildies.

more often than that, i'm tired or just not feeling 100% so i like to play alone, even if it is zerg surfing or running around cyrodiil taking resource after resource. when i am feeling 100%, i like to group. i think this is because i don't want my performance to be under scrutiny when i am just trying to relax.

Some people like playing markets, or generally trading, MMOs offer much more than raid or die
As you said some play this for the TES lore, but others will play MMOs because there are few really good cRPGs that you can spend years in etc...

I play solo because firstly none of my friends play - they prefer The Sims

Secondly - never been good at using the chatbox whilst fighting. On the odd occasion someone has asked me to group
invariably they steam ahead whilst i like to take my time and loot everything ...lol So that never works !

I would like to do the group dungeons in Craglorn (Have completed the solo delves there) but don't feel I would pull my weight as I can't even get past round 3 in Maelstrom Arena :/

ESO is mostly a solo game when it comes to questing. Despite this I group a lot with guildies to do dungeons and overland group content. Sometimes I group with random people in delves, sometimes not but cooperate with other players in the delve. I'm a founder of a gaming community that has a guild in ESO. Most are elder members with real life committments which we understand and a pause in the middle of a dungeon is not unusual when a member had to see to a child or something like that. Scrounging up a group to do dungeons is not difficult in our guild and we have a couple of evenings per week where we form a large group to do overland world bosses or PvP. Sometimes we do a trial. All with guildies. I have never PUGed.

When I'm not grouping I'm doing quests or crafting. Or just exploring alone, often to try achievements.

ESO welcomes grouping if we want and is rewarding when you find that last missing piece of an armor set or a rare recipe or plan. ESO is also a game where grinding is minimized but again one can choose to grind anyway.

I started to play MMO's in the year 2000 when Everquest released its first expansion. In that game you were more or less forced to group just to advance in a decent amount of time resulting in long wait times to get a spot in a group or never be invited because you chose the wrong class.

I'd like to play with others, but I have a such a high ping that I must wake up at 6 am to play and when there are many people who ask "look for more" for world bosses or dungeons or trials, I can't play anymore because I've got 999+ ping and deconnections. :'(

I played in a group a few years ago, but since Morrowind, my connection has become unplayable most of the time.

I do not want to be a burden and slow down the whole group.

And for people who do not understand why you play an MMO on your own, I would say that many players play TESO because it's an Elder Scrolls and all previous Elder Scrolls were solo games.
This is my first MMO and I play it because I loved Oblivion and Skyrim. Not because I like MMOs.

For me, it really comes down to the fact that as the computer/console industry has increased less truly engaging single player games are being created on a level of quality that I enjoy. Bioware and Bethesda were two of the great single player content creators I enjoyed most but even then I only really enjoyed one or maybe two games out of the series they made. The industry has realized that the amount of work it takes to make a single player epic really isn't cost effective when they can make an MMO and create a larger more lasting source of income.

Unfortunately, the lack of quality single player games causes some of us who prefer single players into multiplayer games.

My two worst fears are that the types of single player games I DO enjoy will cease to be made (as time has shown is happening) or that the industry will begin requiring microtransactions to really support those epic single player creations.

There is different level of groups too

world bosses with no formal group, just loads of bodies in the same location

pug groups which don't feel like real groups, the silent runs though that may be in part due to language differences broken by the GG at the end or need XXXXX.

real groups, usually guild where everyone is on comms and properly working together.

Sometimes though I just want to do my own thing quietly and my own pace, I'm happy there is plenty to do either way.

The closest I've come is to ask in Zone if anyone wants to tackle a particular Group Boss, and that's only after waiting for 15 minutes for someone else to show up. (Seriously, people, there are group bosses other than the Wolf Camp during this event. But I imagine the proximity to Cambray Hill Dolmen is the reason why people are crowding WC.)

But, anyway, even then, I don't formally group-up.

PvP I always try to get into a good group, most other things I solo if I can except for daily dungeons when I sometimes do them, I hate asking for help in zone or guilds & if I do I get more help from zone then my guilds normally, have 1 friend in game who helped me from the start and we sometimes do a random dungeon together but not much else.

Given the current event I almost only play with group at the moment, but I usually answer the call for WB and dolmen and every now and then I do a random dungeon or a BG.

I'm not in any PVE/PVP guild, so i'm stuck with random groups or tag along.

I'm tempted to seek a PVE guild suited for novices, as the two trials I did for the event where interesting but I just followed the others and picked up what was happening on the way (I did nAS and nSO) so I'd like to run those with a more organized group, but I have a 10 months old daughter and that means that I can't tell in advance if I'll be online nor for how long, so I put that on hold for the time being

Well, I loved Skyrim. But the real answer is there's nothing else to play that has decent story content these days. Single-player RPGs these days seem to be caught in a huge nostalgia trip that I find distasteful. I mean, I can deal with, and sometimes adore games from the early 2000s-- KOTORs 1 & 2 are awesomesauce for example. But I like more modern combat systems, decent graphics, and I don't have a hardcore bone in my body.

Nobody's making top end Western RPGs these days with stories that aren't bogged down in a huge open world.

The best way to find AAA quality content these days is some of the more story-oriented and solo-friendly MMORPGs like SWTOR, ESO, GW2, SWL etc. So I've made the switch. If Anthem turns out to be decent, I'll probably throw a few hours its way too.

I have run solo since March 2015, my Avatar and I have muddled through to a Max CP. In the beginning I had a couple of friends but they move to faster MMOs. I started late in life to online gaming, so being new to this world, I don't speak the lingo and am loss most of the time. The main reason is seeing so many negative comment and the hate, i.e. which I love is "You're wasting my time" which I can understand. I am here to enjoy myself and waste some time. Being from a different mind set and generation finding other players is hard. I do love the openness of this MMO, but I do find happiness and joy riding Solo.
