DLC Undaunted chest problem for the new monster sets

As currently the new dlc monster sets just added to the dlc undaunted chest, it means getting the shoulder pieces for a new dlc is becoming harder and harder. Now with wolfhunter out, which added 2 set to the existing 9, meaning that 82% of the pieces we get now we already have (9 old set of the 11) and only 18% of the pieces is what people looking for. When the next dlc dungeons comes out - assuming it will be 2 dungeon again - it will be 85% vs 15%, so I think it needs to be revisited how the new dcl dungeon monster sets can be obtained.

As a personal experience, I just used 36 undaunted keys and got 2 Balrog, 3 Vykosa and 31 other which I already have and the only good for decon.

I would seriously recommend either giving much higher chance to the new sets when they came out, or have some new exchange feature where you can exchange any 3-4 monster set piece to 1 of your choice.

    you need a few toons to run vet pledges daily so u have 4-6 keys a day per toon... after you been playing a long time keys are not an issue, i have hundreds that i wish i could trade/give/sell them to friends and guildmates. gl with your shoulders!

    At least now you can use the transmutation station to get the trait you want. Imagine trying to get the correct type, weight, and trait.

    But your point is taken. I have spoken to people who have gone through over a 100 keys trying to get just the basic shoulder-type they wanted.

    RNG is sometimes cruel.

    And a big part of this game.

    I would expect Zos will soon add another chest for new DLCs being added since iirc we are at or near the same number of dungeons at the DLC quest giver as the other two.

    Edit: as mentioned above, it is still much better than it was not long ago since we can change traits now.

    Naw....as someone who's come from WoW, RNG in this game is nothing. WoW has time gated content AND RNG way beyond what I've seen in other games. I far prefer ESO, and I've played WoW since Burning Crusade.
    Every MMO out there has RNG in one form or another. You'll never escape it. Some systems have ways to work around it, like a token system. But those are rare. RNG is a way to artificially extend content...that's why you see it in every game and things like a token system is rare.

    What's weird is when Dragonbones came out, all I got was Zaan shoulders. It was like every other key. Just luck of the draw...I know it's frustrating, but it is what it is. At this point in the games life probably unlikely to change.

    RNG is so good right now, do you remember when you had to farm for days for a single piece of equipment for the right trait? Because:
    1. You could not retrait stuff
    2. You could not trade stuff inside your group

    Those two things are now possible and its so *** easy to get stuff. You get 1 piece of shoulder, retrait it and voila. Back in the days you had to keep rolling till you get the right trait.

    Interesting to see that they are looking into this...

    I never had an issue with having enough keys, but I know it is a big deal for newer players.

    Personally I would like to see chests divided by intended role. Magika DPS, Stamina DPS, Healer, Tank. That way even if you get the wrong shoulder you still get a relevant one.

    I'll help you jump-start the thought process, how about we can pick the set we want using the keys as tokens?
    And since y'all love RNG so much, it can still be a random trait and/or weight.

    That way, there is no scaling issue when you add additional sets and players can still feel unlucky and dump a large amount of keys for the right shoulder.

    This is why I am doing undaunted dailies less and less. I am tired of getting the same shoulder pieces that I already have. The fact that I can go turn in three keys and I get three troll kings shoulders in a row (my most recent try at getting stormfist shoulders). Been trying for almost 4 months now to get Stormfist shoulders. Each key I turn in to Gilirions chest, I get either troll king, scoria, ice heart or nerien'eth.

    The undaunted chest RNG is Destiny 2 levels of bad...

    Review PAYDAY 2's system for unlockables. In PAYDAY you could spend currency (undaunted keys) to increase your chance of a particular item by 12.5%. So for instance, if you had 15 keys, you could spend 5 keys to increase the chance to receive a Kena shoulder to 75% and roll 3 times for that instead of just mindlessly rolling.

    I really wist for a token system for Undaunted and Trials.

    That increase chance with more keys is a good idea also.

    Now, I've not done that sort of grind in this game (yet). But what I HAVE noticed is that when finding Psijic portals on my girls (5 of them) that have that ability, whatever armor weight a given girl is wearing is NOT what she gets from the RNgeezus. (Psijic portals drop blue and purple set pieces every time you find one, so it's worth messing with.)

    In fact, how it seems to actually work (I haven't set up a spreadsheet yet, but I'm thinking that's a good idea) is that my heavy wearers get medium drops, my light wearers get heavy, and my one medium wearer gets a mix of heavy and light. All well and good, I have someone to benefit no matter what - except I have a lot going on, and I can't always just prospect for portals on the "wrong" armor spec!

    Interesting indeed @Turelus.

    One idea I thought of involves turning the current undaunted keys, into an “undaunted key currency” that is account bound, and then one could spend those keys at a specialised vendor for a specific Monster set Shoulder with a specific trait.

    Steps:
    1. Obtain a quest from the undaunted pledge givers. (I.e. maj, glirion and/or urgarlag respectively.)
    2. Complete a pledge to obtain an “Undaunted Key” from the respective pledge giver which is now an account bound currency. 2 keys can still be earned as normal by doing the hard mode challenge.
    3. Once you collect enough keys, you may talk to Maj Al-Ragath, Glirion the Redbeard or Urgarlag Chief-Bane.
    4. They will sell different monster shoulders associated with the group dungeons they handle in all sizes and traits (with exception to Nirnhoned.) at epic quality in exchange for the undaunted keys you collect from completing pledges.

    In truth! I believe it may work and it should be forwarded to ZOS staff for them to ponder as this can alleviate their concern about the scaling issue they face.
    If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

    If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

    This is ironic considering in the past it was easier to get the DLC set piece you wanted rather than the non-DLC ones because the options were fewer.

    Not the case anymore. So ZOS should clarify-

    Should it be easier to get the shoulder piece because the dungeons are harder and it is DLC (ie some of us paid for it)?

    Or

    Should it be harder to get the shoulder piece because ,meh, the dungeon is hard, why not go all out and only let people who play 20 hours per day get what they want?

    BTW I never understood why it’s so difficult to get shoulder pieces anyway. Not like it stops anyone it’s just a mega pain. Doubt it would make any difference to the game if we get both head and shoulders from the boss. Good people will always outperform casual players even with the same gear.

    Need to add another Undaunted Chest and split the sets accordingly. The amount of pieces in chests is ridiculous.

    I've had good luck on spending undaunted keys on the days the set I wanted was a daily pledge, but I agree the RNG can be horrific!

    Have you tried playing Diablo III? It's very refreshing to do so for a bit when I feel like RNG in other games is being bad.
