WoW is heading down the wrong road. Gone are the days of custom builds and playing how you want. Now every class is pruned to the point that all builds are the same, and they funnel you into a play set whether you like it or not because there are no other choices. Everything is time gated, everything is rep locked, everything is story progression locked. If you want that you must do this and this and this first. Everything is also now RNG, there is nothing you can work for, you just put in the time and effort and hope you get something.
Their latestest expansion BfA is also bugged out the wazoo. Almost all of the issues brought up in Beta were pushed live instead of being fixed first. They are also having an odd lag issue that is affecting the majority of their players and they can't seem to figure out what is happening at all so fixing it isn't likely to happen. Two classes were so borked that their lead dev said flat out they are not viable BUT won't be "fixed" until the first major patch. Are you kidding me? Ok so here is the first major patch on their PTR and guess what, NO fixes for those two classes so far.
All of the game issues brought up by the players are being met with "working as intended" by the devs who also basically tell us the game is fun but we're just playing it wrong. That level of arrogance will be WoW's undoing.
I have never walked away from a WoW expansion as early as I did this one. All of my toons have been parked, all auctions pulled, all mail cleared. All of my friends have already quit.
Now, this game (ESO of course lol) isn't perfect. No game is. My biggest issues with this game are the lag spikes and random disconnects. Other than that I personally find this game superior in every way to WoW.
Yeah but wow actually has servers that work...in my time playing and completing legion and bfoa I’ve never had lag or ping issues in pvp or pve...while the game itself maybe going down hill, it’s refreshing to log into a game where I don’t have to worry about lag and performance issues. It’s smooth as butter.
Just looking at the customer reviews for the new expansion for wow makes me think that game will soon go downhill. I have my complaints but it pales in comparison to the state of the game wow is becoming.

I quit back in WoD for pretty much all of the things you mentioned here. Well, that and their decision to try to phase out flying. Then the introduction of Pathfinder and their arbitrary 8 month time gate on that.
My thought process was, "if you dont want me to fly, that's fine, there's a lot of games without flying and most dont require a sub fee just for the privilege of getting past the log in screen".
Got really in to ESO after that. This game has all the stuff that I used to like about WoW. Blizzard decided "well, there's always a meta, so we're just going going to do away with all the abilities we dont think are necessary and that way every one will have to use our meta". Happily, I don't think Zos will ever the same stupid idea.
