New Strategy to counter nerfs?

Lets start brainstorming.

We need out of the box type stuff here.

I suggest our best players equip sets that are worthless and go dominate in pvp with them linking the sets to zone chat causing a wave of copying.

Eh?

What's your creative idea?

Sorry couldn't resist. However, if you can't get by without being overpowered, then maybe you should invest some time into getting better.

Yeah, that wouldn't work. Mostly because the players that can do that, already do.

For example, I understand the shield nerf, and how it affects magDPS in PvE and PvP. I also don't run a shield on my magSorc in battlegrounds. No, seriously. I don't. So, I can glibbly sit here and say, "yeah, git gud," because I know it is possible for me to PvP that way. Can you?

Trying to get the influencers to change the meta to undervalued sets wouldn't change the nerf system, because it's not based on forum feedback, it's based on data for actual performance. If you're reliably going 20:0 in BGs, ZOS is going to a look at how you did that. If a lot of players are doing that with a given factor... yeah, that's going to get nerfed. But, the vast majority of players simply aren't good enough to do that.

Hell, I still remember someone wandering into a stream accusing the community's theorycrafters of deliberately sabotaging the meta so they could get more kills on the players who followed their builds. If you actually did, "sabotage the meta," players simply wouldn't dominate with those sets. And the sets that did overperform would still get attention based on statistical analysis.

Not getting the big shield nerf outcry myself, either. I mean I have a sorc and played with him since the game came out, I saw a lot of changes (and nerfs) to the class, but shield was only ever useful to go through a very hard content, like Craglorn before it became much easier after One Tamriel update. You can play without a shield, imagine that.

I like to think that we live in a world where politely presenting clear, rational, and well-thought-out arguments for or against changes we'd like to see in our favorite game would sway the developers to make better decisions or have better insights to how the player base feels about changes they intend to make. From there, we can get people on the same page and start having constructive, collaborative discussions where the community and the company can work together to find the best solutions and make the best product around; for both the consumers and the creators.

I'd like to think that, anyway...

But it seems more and more like we live in a world where ZOS balances their game on what seems like more of a whim than anything else, and player input amounts to a bunch of farts in a hurricane. Instead of taking small, sensible steps to see how changes could and do affect the game overall on the PTS, ZOS hacks away at perceived problems like a surgeon with a chainsaw instead of a scalpel. Then, once the mess is made, they rarely backtrack any errant changes and instead leave the players to deal with the game however they left it. Until a later patch, where they may possibly realize their mistake that many honest and well-meaning players pointed out before the changes went live.

So I guess my new strategy is... cry on the forums? :P

    I dunno, it's a tough situation.

I play this game since 2014 (release) and I noticed this:
Something becomes popular, and it is a "meta" - then it is nerfed just because it is popular (not not necessarily OP) and too many people are using it. It is a "cycle" - you cant stop it.

    My only strategy so far:
I try to use non - meta builds of my own. I simply try to build around my play-style - rather than adapt to play-style of a meta-build... and to be honest it is kinda working...

Never used zaan, never crafted & used sload, never used swift (I just tested it and for me the "price"/trade-off was too big).
And now when I look at it ? Well... I was basically unaffected by all those nerfs.

My speculation is now that swift got nerfed probably infused trait will be next "nerf - target" - so I will try to avoid using it in my builds.
Also - take a look at "Soldier of Anguish" set... it has already been nerfed on PTS. People still say it is way too OP. My bet is that it will be nerfed maybe like 1 - 2 moths after it will go to live servers. Hence - I will not use it in my builds.

Basically - I try to use something that is less likely to be called "OP" at some point and nerfed.
Sure - It won't prevent nerfs but at least it will minimize its impact on me.

I need to git gud. But i dont even use swift and didnt like the shield nerf, but was finally building a new stam character to try and learn to play.

But at this point it seems everybodies getting kinda super nerfed.

Lots of insightful comments here. Thanks for teaching me.

There is always going to be that player, several, that can go 20-0 on bgs. Not me, but it seems to me theyll always find something to use to make themselves top dog.

I think it has been well domonstrated by the Sorc-mains and their campaign to change the nerf to shield how to get ZOZ to change course. I know there are a lot of players in game, and on Band amazed at how effective crying, starting a bazillion threads on the forum, and threatening to quit the game got ZOS to cave and partially roll back their proposed changes. We can do it again.

In PVE, I play what I like. That's not always the meta - usually isn't - but I'm far more likely to keep playing if I'm doing what I like instead of chasing the highest DPS performers or the best gear, which I dont need for 90% of content anyways.

In PVP, I play with an organized group. If there's a buff, organized groups use it better than anyone else. If there's a nerf, organied groups adapt better than anyone else. So I'm more bothered by the lack of performance fixes than I am by nerfs.
