Since this patch testing is all about reworking the way shield spells and effects work, I thought I throw my idea around that I have been thinking about for a long time. It's very similar to the core design where it can now be affected by Critical Strikes and affected by Spell/Physical Resists and Penetration effects.

The basics
Shields have a base absorb amount of 50% damage redirection while the remaining 50% of the damage still hits your health pool.
Spell and Physical Resistance increases the amount of damage that can be redirected to your shields up to 12.5% each to the Armor cap, up to a total of 75% damage redirected to your shields.
The Champion Perk 'Bastion' no longer increases the effectiveness of shields, but now Increases the amount of damage that can be redirected to your shield by 15% at 100 points.
In total you can have up to 90% of the damage taken redirected to your primary shield effect and that leaves 10% of the damage remainder to your health pool, this remainder damage can still be reduced further by Blocking with your weapon or more effectively with an actual equipped shield in your off-hand. Other ways to reduce it further in the next section.

Stacking shields
When using more than one shield at a time, the largest shield will absorb most of the damage while each smaller shield will redirect up to 5% additional damage to itself and another 5% damage redistribution from the primary shield. That means with 2 shields active the primary shield at base will absorb 45% of the damage taken, the second shield will absorb 5% additional damage taken and redistribute 5% damage from the primary shield to itself; you would take 45% of the left over damage. This continues with each new shield that is stacked, up to a maximum of 5 shield effects. Should you be at the 90% cap from all other sources, you would only need a total of 3 active shields to completely redirect all damage to your shield effects and none to your health pool.

The counter
Increasing your Spell and Physical Penetration allows more of your damage to bypass how much damage is redirected to the shield, allowing you to deal more damage to the player's health pool.
When dealing a Critical Strike attack to a Shield effect, up to 50% additional damage will bypass shield redirection depending on how much additional redirection that player has above the base.
The Champion perk 'Shattering Blows' no longer increases the amount of damage done to players with shields active, instead it allows up to 15% of your damage to bypass shield effects redirection and strike at the player's health pool.

Okay you can now laugh at me for this ridiculous idea.
