Which skills with cast times do people like and use, anywhere in the game?

OK. I guess it's fair to acknowledge that, since in a lot of skill lines the first damage skill has a cast time, people sometimes actually use those skills. And the ones that feel like "winding up for a hard hit", such as Wrecking Blow, can actually be fun. But multiple seconds to cast an essential defense? That's not fun at all.

Dark deal on my stamsorc tank.

    Uppercut and morphs.

    Snipe.

I guess some versions of magicka detonation.

    To name a few.

Cast time isn´t as bad as people think.

But it can be a hard adjustment if you are used to just spamming instants.

    Take Maelstrom Arena for example.
Folks are posting that sorcerers won't be able to do it after the change.
Yet there are sorcerers completing it on the PTS and giving feedback.

When you do vMA over and over you know the who, what, when of incoming damage.
There will be times where you can use the cast because you'll know you have that 1 second.
There will be other times that you have to do something other than shield because you don't have that 1 second.
Well, why not incorporate roll dodge to get out of the way and then cast ?

Very surprised no one has mentioned the Warden Shalks yet.

    It’s a staple in PvP.

And, fortunately doesn’t fit into the OP’s attempted categorization of delayed abilities ... at least in the PvP raids I’m a part of.

It’s used all the time especially in heavy fights.

That said, I am not a strong supporter of the shield nerf ... indeed my Sorc has a tough time with rotation on PTS after testing this week.

Doesn't count because you can do things while it's running. With a cast time you're stuck waiting for it to finish.

Every time I put a skill with a cast time on my bars, I end up removing it quickly. I feel as if I’m bogged down in the mud when I have to wait for a skill to be cast. Game play in ESO is simply too fast and fluid to use skills with casting delays.

I’d use dark flare if there were no casting time. I actually do use healing ritual occasionally now (never slotted it before the recent change). I stopped slotting frags on my sorcs because I’d occasionally hit the key by mistake before it proc’d and have to cancel the hard cast. I never use snipe.

I’m not an elite player and I need my shield in difficult content. I’ll have to forget about ever finishing vMA. There might not have been a strong chance of my completing it before, but now there is none.

Also, note that cast times (and heavy attack times) are quite a bit shorter when you weave (or spam) them. Really I cant agree with something like uppercut being 'clunky' when you weave it with light and heavy attacks, it hits pretty fast. But then I live in Sweden and play on EU and my internet is really responsive which helps.

Shalks has no cast time. It's just delayed burst.

Difference being you are not slowed to 60% speed for a full second while arming the skill, unable to do anything else.

I'm not either, nor am I maxed CP or have BiS gear. I've spent a while in the PTS over the last couple of days strictly in vMA. On live I'm on stage 9.

I dont think that the current changes will hinder a clear in vMA. In some ways they'll make it better, in others worse. In some ways it feels stronger.

Cast times? People don't even like letting animations play between GCDs. People don't like cooldowns. People don't like running out of resources. People like skipping mechanics whenever possible. It's rare to find people that like anything that limits their characters in some way.

That's not to downplay how much it sucks to make something feel different gameplay-wise after years of being used to it, but there are a lot of people that won't support any nerf of any kind if it actually impacts them somehow.
Something being unbalanced in 1v1 does not imply that it is balanced in group play.

I stopped using it because of the cast time insanity.. why it even has a cast time is insane.
