I know things are feel rough for many players who feel very tied to Sorc, but I ask a question for people to better express their ideal Sorc not in skills, but in feelings. How do you imagine the Sorc Functioning in the game? What makes you love the class? Is the animations? The pacing of the skills? Making things go boom? The complexity or the simplity? Having minions with you all the time?

My favorite moment with MagSorc (petsorc) was running VMA arena 2 for the first time. I'd gotten to round 4, finally after many deaths, gotten the last centurion down to 20k health, got overconfident and died.

I legit apologized to my poor twilight and familiar for that one. Probably took us 6 more tries to beat it.

I have a friend "who shall not be named" , who yells at me when I am healing and his pets died. "He says explain yourself tasy" " where where the springs tasy" and I go "I don't maybe they were standing away or taking a vaction?"

Back when I first made the character, what made me switch over from my nightblade was Surge and healing based on the amount of critical damage I did. My playtime for the class started to taper off once they made things more...idk how to put it. Simple and more comparable to other classes? I hate what they did to Surge. I liked being able to pour everything into offense - the rush of being a wimpy, lightly armored caster in melee surviving by the skin off their teeth and barely making it by due to the healing my offensive pressure provided me. And I mean /actual/ offensive stacking, not like how shields were (are) with very clear cut windows of attack and defense (you're either lining up burst or shielding).

Since then, it feels as if sorcerer has been so trimmed down to where I'm not entirely sure what the point of the class is anymore. It all feels watered down, pointlessly clunky and weak. It seems like ZOS Is ensuring that nothing is ever 'strong', but having a strong aspect of a class is what made the class a class, for me. It's okay for something to be strong in one area and lackluster in another. Unique is all well and good, but unique does not always necessarily go hand in hand with useful. I'm hard pressed to find something sorc has that's not only unique, but useful. Twilight heal is basically a clunkier version of templar's BoL/HtD that can be killed. Lightning pool thingy has a frost counterpart in wardens. Bolt escape is perhaps the only unique thing left, but I'm finding my sorc's mobility has become a meme.

Edit: It was also having a clear theme. Sorc has...dark magic, summoning, and...lightning? I enjoy NB and DK more due to the cohesiveness of their skill lines and how the animations mesh. Dark magic and summoning fit together - summoning a daedra and then making dark deals (hah) with 'em, but lightning feels very out of place, aesthetically.

I don't like pets and don't use any of them except for the atro, which I love. For me, magsorc is about utilizing lightning and dark magic to do high burst damage. I love the fast paced, mobile, glass cannon style in PvP, and I am vehemently opposed to any changes that slow the class's gameplay down. While I am not opposed to class reworks in general, and in fact I think some are necessary to remove the shoehorned style we are currently forced into, they should not take away from the sorc's traditional gameplay style. If anything, I think we should have more options overall. Not having a class spammable really destroys build diversity.

Additionally, if I wanted to be a fire mage, I would have chosen to play a magDK. Sorcs are forced to use flame staves instead of lightning if they want to be viable for both PvP AND PvE. I would like us to have more options when it comes to being a fully lightning/dark magic mage instead of being shoehorned into a fire build.

Overall, the sorc's rapid, high burst, mobile abilities are why I like the playstyle, and the lightning/dark magic is what I like about the theme. I wish there were more options instead of pets and passive bar skills for sorcs in PvE. Just to reiterate, I DO NOT want to be a fire mage, that's what a magDK is.

I like the dynamic nature of crystal frags. I never liked buff management and I almost never use shields. Since then buff management has gotten better and managing dots I've gotten used to. Shields I don't really use. I find that there are descent enough alternatives. Maybe not as good, but more fun for me.

From a magic and a PvP perspective I absolutely hate the zoo keeper play style but it's interesting

Non pet sorc is supposed to be raw magical power

Much like templar which has pure light

Nightblade with shadow and darkness (though with stife being less useful we are down 1 particle effect)

Warden which has the nature stuff

and DK being a hot mess

The reason I chose to main Sorcerer instead of the other classes at launch was because Sorcs are self-sufficient. I wanted a class that allowed me to solo as much content as possible, and Sorcerer seemed the best equipped to do that.

Unfortunately, as time has gone on, it has become clear that the ZOS devs do not share my vision. Sorcerers have endured nerf after nerf that have hurt our ability to face adversaries on our own, both NPC and human. This makes me very unhappy!

I initially was drawn to the high mobility and strong cc's in the sorc kit, and I started out as a sorc pvp bosmer grp support/healer. Once softcaps were removed I went stam. I still felt the high mobility, but I also really enjoyed crit surge's mechanic. I have since kept passive heals as a pillar of most of my builds, using the Briarheart set in many setups despite many people dismissing it for a while (came into favor in pve, but went out the window with relequen). Right now I am currently running Seventh Legion and Briarheart to enhance crit surge. enough background,

So for me what has made sorc fun is relative mobility (increasing your own movement and decreasing your opponents) and passive heals. I'm not feeling so hot with relative mobility since the introduction of swift (the streak cost increase on successive casts hurt this for my stam sorc as well).

As far as how stam sorc feels to me as a theme, I look at my stam sorc as someone who uses magic to both enhance her physical strength and summon different weather effects. I have immense love for nature and respect for the power it has, being from South Louisiana. So I am really drawn to the weather aspect of stam sorc, hurricane and lightning. It would be nice to have some wind to summon as well... air atronach or air overload.

The StamSorc is my main character that I play and I have been PvPing & PvEing for the past two years on this character. The class identity of StamSorc has been mobility and utility via third Overload bar. With Swift Jewelry the mobility aspect is very limited (no point in even running Streak on a StamSorc due to issues streaking on elevation changes). Furthermore the third bar via Overload is being eliminated in this PTS cycle and as a result the main identity of StamSorc is being all but eliminated.

The lack of stamina morphs for damage skills or ults has always been a problem for StamSorc and I believe with the current change to Overload, this is the perfect time to make a change to one of the Overload morphs to be physical damage. As it sits right now there is no good Sorc Ult (Negate is great but only in group situations) for a StamSorc.

@StaticWave has a very good thread (see link below) demonstrating in video, Overload weaves really well but would be extremely beneficial to have a physical damage morph. This would really bring StamSorc to StamWarden levels of burst damage.

A lot of things. (I will say about PVE)

    1) Pets are fun for me, I like when familiar can tank bosses in solo. When I play solo I always have companion(s) - pets...
    2) Shock-electric skills look good
    3) Dynamic range playstyle (with INSTANT SHIELDS it's dynamic yes)
    4) Lightning Form is damn nice skill especially on Hurricane morph
    5) Daedric curse/pray like explosion sound and mechanic

I like that magicka sorc has more like aoe based dps.

But was a bit disappointed that magicka class in this game don't have ICE abilities at all. So no Ice Mage...
I think magicka as elementalist must have ice and maybe water (xD) abilities also.

Sorc, I made my sorc for to long ago. Back when our shields lasted too long, we could streak without cost increase, and our frag actually was something people wanted to dodge. I've allways hated pet builds in any MMO so that has never been an option for me.

The shield nerf I liked, made them demand more skill to use.
The Streak nerf I could understand in a time when cap closer still was less used.
The frag nerf was the start of the end for combative sorc PvP.
The pet buffs have been useless for me, as they stop my mobility.

After that it's been nerf, after nerf, after nerf. Except random buffs for pets.
And then we got an ability noone asked for, but every hated, and our class ended with even more nerfs.

    1sec cast time
    Crittable shields
    Dark deal

Any competent sorc will say that shields are a double edged sword, sure you can build for high shields and make them useful for PvP and your dmg will suffer. But any normal build sorc is running 36k-40k mag in PvP. The shields from these standard PvP sorcs gets destroyed with 2 dots and 1 spamable, there are sets that directly counter shields and now they get even more destroyed?

So, what is a sorc for me? It used to be the perfect balance between offensive and defensive gameplay.
Let me stand alone unattended and I will hurt you, push me and I would not be able to do dmg.
As our offense is extremly timed to even get any effect and extremly telegraphed, it was also fair that the enemy would need some form of tactic too break through our defence.

But now, just pure dmg is enough to break our shields. With next patch we won't even be allowed to cast the shield before we're dead.

Quick note: Pre 4.2.0 I've already swapped 3 traits for well-fittet and use dodge roll more than shields in PvP. Just because of how useless shields are against stam builds.

I am usually drawn to the traditional mage archetype. That is big ranged elemental or magic damage, squishy, but with high mobility that comes from spells.

Of course I have no bar space to actually slot any of that stuff and maintain competitive damage.

I'm having a hard time figuring out where the class belongs. What makes it unique other than a Lightning Line. Most of us see the DPS obviously when unhindered, yes there have been some difficulties, sustain, bumbling of CC recently (Given and taken away) I'm frankly not CLEAR from ZOS on what they want Sorcerer to be.

I spent 5 minutes drawing this in PAINT. I left Sorcerer OFF of the Trinity. Tasear I would ask you and other Sorc mains, where should Sorcs be??? Also I didn't bother with a PVP version as it pisses me off at the moment so I'll leave that alone.

1 sec shield cast time not that bad , new empower ward lasts for 14 second , I just have to cast once every 2 rotation , maybe faster when I am in harder content .

When the game launched I think sorcerer was meant to be in the damage circle, with nightblade in the spot between damage and healing, or mixed therein. Now it's the opposite situation, but sorc lacks a lot of utility, eg. Basically no buffs and debuffs.
