Dodge Roll and Shields

Damage shields are very powerful because they can be used to instantly reduce incoming damage, and allow the user to stack offensive stats while also being very difficult to kill. Adding a cast time and increasing the duration makes this an ability to use proactively before damage happens, or at opportune times during combat.

You do realise that this also applies to dodge roll even more than it does to shields. In addition dodge rolls have a far greater mitigation potential than shields.
So can we please also get a 1 second cast time on dodge rolls? It's your own logic @ZOS

    This is basically true... if I dodge a snipe spam I don't get defiled but if I shield it I get defiled and maybe it would even go through the shield since it is an overloaded ability with a lot of damage

    They nerfed dodge and shields. I guess the meta in general. More heavy armor maybe.

    Dodge Roll is not nearly as bad.

    1 sec travel time of a projectile requires it to be either far away or extremely slow (or both).
    In either case you got enough time to register the projectile flying towards you and still dodge.
    The dodge roll change does not make you susceptible to damage, just requires to play a little bit more thoughtfully ... remember you canno't break through dodge the same way you can break through shields.

    And besides, the perma-dodging NBs are always dodging anyways. So if a projectile is not evaded through the current dodge roll it will be through the second.

    When Zos netted shields last time they used logic and it was a sound choice. This time it appears to be more of a knee jerk reaction.

    When I heard they were going to make a change I thought it was said Zos would add counter play to shields and had looked forward to seeing some creativity but this is just lazy.

    Read carefully, they did actually add a 1 second delay to roll dodge actually dodging though it does have the advantage of not being interruptible and not slowing the player in a channel for that one second. Also, reports say the shield cast time is much longer than 1 second. They did add 1 second to roll dodge though.

    All that said, it's still RIP mag though as mag is pretty useless without shields and shields are worthless with a cast time.
    I am currently worried for the future of ESO. Population seems like it is in free fall and the cancellation of the North America in-person gathering feels very much like pulling the plug. Kudos on fixing the in-game economy though. Clearly whatever gold shenanigans were happening the last couple years are fixed.

    It's not quite the same. It only means projectiles with more than 1 second remaining flight-time will not be dodge by the current dodge roll. You can still negate any imminent damage. This change should actually only affect very few scenarios - e.g. max overload b/c overload is slow af.
    The shield change on the other hand affects every scenario. Not makes it your gameplay less fluid, but it also makes shields itnerruptible, and does not allow you to mitigate any imminent damage.

    Those 2 changes are worlds apart!!!!
