Damage shields are very powerful because they can be used to instantly reduce incoming damage, and allow the user to stack offensive stats while also being very difficult to kill. Adding a cast time and increasing the duration makes this an ability to use proactively before damage happens, or at opportune times during combat.

You do realise that this also applies to dodge roll even more than it does to shields. In addition dodge rolls have a far greater mitigation potential than shields.
So can we please also get a 1 second cast time on dodge rolls? It's your own logic @ZOS

Read carefully, they did actually add a 1 second delay to roll dodge actually dodging though it does have the advantage of not being interruptible and not slowing the player in a channel for that one second. Also, reports say the shield cast time is much longer than 1 second. They did add 1 second to roll dodge though.
All that said, it's still RIP mag though as mag is pretty useless without shields and shields are worthless with a cast time.
