Burning Spellweave Inferno Staff Bug

I have been farming for over 2 weeks and well over 50 CoA1 in various norm and vets, hm and not, and maybe 15 CoA2 runs, on mag/stam dps, healers, and tanks. Burning Spellweave Inferno Staff has not dropped once in any trait for anyone my group, and most times we got each chest as well. For something that is supposed to be random, and a staple of the Burning Spellweave Set, there is something very wrong here. Is the drop rate bugged, or is it intentionally designed to make this game not at all fun? I've gotten one in the past long ago, but not recently. It's become painful, and the people helping me are completely sick of it too. At minimum, it works out to 0/260 with no chests, and 0/780 with chests. How can it be this low?? There are 12 types of weapons in each of 3 sets, so the chance for a Burning Spellweave Inferno Staff SHOULD be 1/36 I would think from a boss?

Please @ZOS_GinaBruno, is this bugged, so I know to stop until it's fixed, or is it just supposed to be this painful? I play the game a lot, and if someone is more casual, it would make the set unusable! I don't understand it!

    I know it doesn't help you directly, but last week (or two weeks ago?) when CoA2 was the daily I did it on veteran non-HM with my friends and I got an infused BSW inferno staff from the chest at the end. I wasn't even farming for it... just doing the daily. So, they do drop. Just randomly. :frowning:

    I dont know if its a bug or not... But in my experience, and the experience of people i know, the destro is a rare drop.. And especially the flame staff. In my years of playing this game I have run coa hundreds of times, if not more, and have never gotten one and i have only seen one other person get one.

    Took me over 400 runs to get a full set of Rattlecage staffs I no longer use. What did I learn from it? Never use dungeon set :D

    Worm cult staves and jewelry are the absolute worst set pieces to farm in that dungeon. *rolls around naked on rattlecage stuff*

    It's called RNG.
    I have an infused (non-trait changed) Burning Spell Weave inferno.

    Farmed one not too long ago for a friend too and we had an infused inferno drop again.

    It's not bugged, it's just how RNG works.

    It's super rare. It came to the point where I swapped pieces around to take a staff from a different set instead and farmed the swapped BSW pieces I needed to make up for it.

    If you're using another set, you might be better off getting the staff for that set, and using 5 Armors/Jewelry for BSW instead.

    Well I have easily twice your runs and over 80 hours farming treasure chests in COA1 and haven’t seen an inferno staff of any trait.

    I have multiple sharpened or infused, healing staff, lightening staff, daggers, swords, great swords, mauls, and bows but not one inferno staff even in a terrible trait.

    On a side not I have also not earned from writs or refinement a single gold tempering alloy since Wolfhunter deopped on PS4 and I’m up to 6K rubidite ore and around 3k iron ore refined and daily writs in two maxed out crafters

    It's not 1/36. You either get a weapon (or shield) or jewelry or a unique item from the final boss (and only the final boss, other bosses don't drop weapons/jewels except for unique items).

    And the actual odds depend on exactly how the loot table is generated. As in, is it a loot table of all possible items (12 x 3 x 8 weapons, 1 x 3 x 8 shields, 2 x 3 jewelry, 2 unique items) which would be 12/320 ... or does the system first decide whether you're going to get a weapon or a shield or a jewel or a unique item (or some variation of that), and then roll the exact item (meaning you have a 1/4 chance of having a 12/288 chance)? I suspect that it's not a truly random loot table of all possible drops, because I seem to get unique items at a much higher rate than any other specific item. Even worse, based on the way that Maelstrom drops used to work, it's possible that the odds are skewed in some other way. But I personally don't think that the BSW inferno itself is specifically bugged or skewed or anything ... I've got exactly one Sunderflame dagger (not that it's useful anymore) in all my time farming CoA recently, which is the same as the number of BSW infernos I have (but I have 2 BSW lightnings and probably 5 BSW restos).

    Also, chests aren't guaranteed to have a weapon/jewel in them. You're dealing with the entire loot table of armor in those cases.

    Anyway, I would suggest that you look at chest farming instead of actually running the dungeon. You can do it solo (although you need someone in group, even someone who is offline, to reset the instance). What I do is just run the chest farm really quickly on my magblade every day when I log on to do writs/mount training, and then again before I'm done for the night. It takes maybe 2 minutes per run.

    I can assure you they do exist, i’ve Had 6 drop myself, 2 from actually running the dungeon and the other 4 by stealth farming the chests only on my magblade.

    Sorry to hear about your farming. RNG works that way, I've only had a BSW inferno drop for me once, and I gave it away. I came back to farm for it when I leveled a magnb and someone in my group gave me one on the first run. I got another one from a groupmate again when doing a pledge the next time I went in CoA. So, I'm pretty sure it exists. If you don't have the add-on Loot Log, that will tell you what drops your groupmates are getting. Perhaps it has dropped for your teammates but they aren't giving it to you.

    I do use Group Loot, so it didn't drop for them.

    I was looking for a maul of sheer venom in ICP this event and never found it, ran it like 30 times (double drops too, so that's like 60). Also I never found more than 1 sunder 1h weapon back when it was still good.

    RNG in this game has some flaw in it. At least a few times I get the exact same item twice when there's double drops, like the two divine gauntlets of imperium I got in the WGT treasure room, or two divine warden heavy helms from one drop in this event.

    At least zos should remove items that don't make sense, like BSW maces or sheer venom resto staves.

    I believe you might be more lucky on COA2.
    Farmed COA1 countless times for a friend and never got it, whereas found one during a COA2 pledge from last boss.
    Luckily, friend was also in group.
    My own fire staff was also from COA2.
    In light, there is darkness.

    just farm the chests on CoA1 normal, learn the spots where they spawn and have the treasure hunter passive enabled

    from there you can safely go up to 200+ runs till you get one

    I got mine running CoA1 solo whole night (yes, I waited 5 mins for instance to reset every time), just to see my friend casually getting infused one in CoA2 pledge next day. RNG is a birch.

    Now I try to get Undaunted Infiltrator Lightning staff for experiment for my sorc. FML.

    I got one a fee days ago while casually doing pledge.
    In general getting a specific type of staff has 1/3rd chance than any other weapon and in dungeons that have 4 or 5 sets, its even rarer

    My issue is whether this is how the game is meant to be. To a casual player, this set is almost harder to get than some trials sets. That is why to me it seems like a bug. I understand how hard it is to get, what I don't understand is why?

    It probably works everywhere the way it works in vMA (and somebody collected data for that at one point so it is semi reliable).
    It rolls for a type of weapon, and then for the subtype. So for example first it decides you get a one hander, and then decides which kind. Which means that weapons are only rng balanced around the general type of weapon ( so chance for bow = chance for destro IN GENERAL). And then the game rolls again for the subtype, which is the reason why daggers and inferno staves have just another thing on top to screw you ;). I guess for dungeons you have more steps in that decision tree, but it is a tree, and not a "every item possible has the same chance". So maybe 80% for a standard item (20% for a unique item, that are just wild guesses now) -> which set? 1/3 -> which weapon/jewlery in general? 1/8 (6 lines, 2 jewels) -> if it has a subtype, which kind? for destro 1/3. Let's leave the traits for now^^.
    that would be 0.8*0.33*0.125*0.33 ~ around 1%. Just to get a fire staff of burning spellweave. Numbers are ofc not precise, but you get the idea.

    Pretty much the definition of RNG. Can run 100's of times and get nothing. On the other hand can get a bunch in a row. I have no need for them anymore as I fortunately have a bunch of BSW staff's but on adc hoc runs I have done recently, got inferno staff fine. Even got one on a under 50 toon I was levelling. Staff has to compete with all the other items on the same loot table.

    Lastly, all I am going to say is at least we have transmute now!!! I did the grind pre Transmute and amount of times I got inferno in crap trait was painful! :(

    Farmed chests coa for 4 days thinking it would drop, it didn't.

    Beat the the dungeon solo to try for drop on final boss, I got it. :p blew my mind I got it first solo fight.
