Housing: Some thoughts

I was wondering, with the releases of all of these super huge and beautiful notable homes, why it is we haven't seen more/new smaller houses for those characters/players who do not require massive cathedral/cave/mansion/outdoor environs?

For example, I absolutely love the Summerset housing, but the current house on offer, though a "townhome" still feels too large - I would have loved an option such as the "wood elves cottage" (that's what it's called in one of the questlines) or some other of the smaller houses scattered throughout the zone. Conversely the current "inn" houses (while free and I am absolutely grateful about that) are too small. Something in between would be perfect.

I'm thinking things the size of the Witches' hut that was/is (?) offered during the fall event.

From an individual character perspective, these smaller homes (generally) make more sense and frankly, (from a player perspective) I would spend more coins/crowns overall buying/furnishing them as I haven't been able to pull a trigger on a larger house due to the sheer size/what it would take to reasonably furnish it.

If there's the thought that there are too many smaller homes already offered, I would humbly suggest there be an introduction of a cycle of houses of this size? That way, just like with the notable homes, there will always be some that are coveted and feel "fresh" to players.

Please note: I am not saying that I don't think there should be less notable homes on offer, but that there *should* be a better variety of the tier levels that are offered.

Thoughts?

14k crowns.. would be my reasoning.. They realised people will pay that much and more they gave up on cheaper housing.

I agree. Aesthetically I don’t like large houses. Not even in real life.

I wish there was a more reasonable sized house in the Gold Coast and Hews Bane. Or a pent house on a high rise, aka an apartment big enough for a pool and some green space.

I wish they had a ship as a home. just the ship. I don’t want a huge cavern as well. Like theres a row boat at the docks of the 3 major cities and when you click on it you port to a ship that is in the shallows. The city in the far distance and a reasonable radius around the ship without slaughterfish. 3 ships style to match the 3 alliances.

I have the Witches hut from the Halloween event and it’s just the right size for the amount of furniture slots they give.

I think that hits the nail on the head. Why sell a house for say $30 or $50 dollars when the housing is already selling well above $100 a pop. It's a cash grab.

IRL, I want a house twice the size of the one I have now (~2000 sf, and 35 years old, AND needs a lot of work *sigh*).

In game, I'm not ever going to be into the "palatials". First, they're not "me". Second, they're so big you can't furnish them appropriately with the slot limit. Third.... well.... they're just not what I call "prime real estate". And yes, that's a personal reaction based somewhat on playing RIFT and being able in that game to choose various "blank" areas and then build exactly what I wanted. Veil (one of my mains) had the best house in any game I've ever played - I built it from the ground up, and if I could have a place like that IRL...

Anyway, the housing setup in this game isn't IMO ideal. I haven't bought a house yet. I have the free inn rooms, that's all. I don't know that I will ever buy a house. Limiting furnishings is so.... tacky.

    You only need Snugpod.

If you still need the stable, it's right outside.
    Traders are right outside.
The Master Writ dude is a quick run away.
If you need a banker then get Humblemud, anything else you could possibly need is in Dhalmora.

You all are more than likely correct, though it does disappoint me (re: crown prices driving larger houses).

The pirate cove is gorgeous, but I'd have probably bought just a "boat" version in a heartbeat.

I'd already own a home in Summerset if I could have gotten a cottage-sized one. Ditto with Vvardenfell and The Gold Coast.

Maybe we'll see some changes as the game ages a little more.

I have Humblemud and thoroughly enjoy it. The only thing it lacks proximity to is a cooking fire - everything else is right outside. The courtyard is nice enough and it has flat walls, which the Argonian homes lack (hanging paintings gets... creative...), but my number one critique is water access. Only one of the Argonian homes has water anywhere! I set up the free Morrowind room like a little cafe and haven't touched anything else (got my eyes on Ample Domicile though, with all that gold we're getting this month...!). All that said, more homes in that medium range is always welcome in my book. ;)

I totally agree. I had been wanting a townhouse in Alinor for the longest time (in fact, ever since I pre-purchased Summerset), and I even saved up the gold to buy it. But I've previewed it a number of times and each time I walk away feeling completely overwhelmed by the idea of furnishing such a large house.

No doubt there are some players who are willing to spend the crowns on the mansions, but I'd be willing to bet there are many more who will buy and furnish (with crown-bought furnishings as I do) smaller houses.

I hope we see more small/medium size houses. (Er, not in the swamps, though, please.)
