There are two characters on my second account on the EU side that will be swapped when added.

It's been so long wanted that this feature is no longer useful to my main account, at least at this time. I may use it when the newest 5 toons made after Summerset finish their research, mount training, all zone questing maybe at that time I will rearrange by class. Or I may still leave it as is, I have gotten rather used to it.

It is a nice quality of life improvement though. I do remember hating the order I created my toons in for the longest time.

It was on the Twitch Bethesda thing Friday, about 30 mins in after PvP changes / destructable bridges etc

If I've broken the seal on this I need more awesomes stat!

Wait, whaaaat?!?! When did they say this? Very very cool if they are. They should have redesigned the home/character select screen a long time ago. But better late than never.

It was in the convention demo at Bethesda Game Days. There were little up and down carrots on the right side of the character select tab, which would move that character up or down one in the listing order.

I'm also wondering why this is so important? Never really occured to me to even want to re-order my characters; the game remembers your last used character so it's not like it adds an extra click.

If they're spending time on trivial requests, I'd rather have guild chat colors be account-wide instead of specific to a character.

Looking at my character screen and deciding to log in some crafters for writs, I started to see the benefit of being able to sort them into a group. So I rescind my earlier pessimism.

I personally will roll some alts now. This limitation has bothered me in a way that doesn’t indicate stable mental health in my part.

In the spirit of my mental health joke/post, it bothers people because of some OCD. I have one toon a high elf mag sorc. I don’t roll alts for a couple of reasons. One is in not done leveling the current character. Why does that even matter? The other is that when I do roll another character I don’t want the history and order that I created them captured in the character selection list.

Can’t explain it to someone that’s not bothered by it. I also rolled a new character after my first main toon bugged a quest causing an insignificant NPC to be permanently missing and a GetCompletedQuest api call to not return that I completed the fighters guild intro quest. Which caused the Destinations addon to show the quest marker permanently. Which I then wrote a stern warning about to the forum page for that addon on the addon site. For others that experience this OCD.

So yeah... it’s not normal. It’s not healthy. But those people that really want this for reasons like this REALLY want the feature.

Edit: like I reviewed the lua code of the addon in visual studio text editor to determine the cause and found it to be exactly this. Basically you need to talk to the intro dude (each faction has a guy for both fighters and mates guild) BEFORE you talk to another quest giver for the guild. Otherwise you will cancel the intro quest and the NPC will never reappear! He will be listed as the steward for the guild hall but will never be where he is supposed to be!

All is fine as I rushed to the fighters guild on my second toon. I didn’t like my first one anyway. Don’t screw these quests up like I did or you will forever have a started guild quest line without the intro quest ever showing as complete. You can imagine how this can really screw up other addons in the future. Also your data on the server is broke. I couldn’t get ZOS support to go in and set quest completed marker manually. Because normal people don’t care about this stuff.

Lots of fantastic QoL stuff coming this update. Character reorder, housing item grouping, housing undo and redo, etc.
