I've been playing ESO since beta on a Dell XPS that I bought back in 2009. Yesterday I finally purchased a new gaming desktop, which also meant that it was the first time I've ever played ESO with graphics settings not set at the bare minimum. In fact, I'm able to max out everything in the settings now. Now I can see why people say the graphics and artwork in this game are beautiful. It's literally like playing an entirely new game and has revamped my excitement for it. Anyways, story over and now it's time to go back to watching grass sway and looking at actual reflections in the water.

Yeah, an nVidia Geforce GtX 980.

Learn to use the Geoforce Experience. In the Options of it you will have to click on the Beta button. Took me some time to get use to, but once you get the hang of it, it just looks awesome.

Too note because it's beta sometimes ESO doesn't start up and I need to retry it a few times. But I don't like playing without it.

Also do you play with head phones? I finally borrowed my son's Astro's and MY GOD the sounds in the games is just as beautiful as the graphics.

I personally love the graphics in this game. When people say they are bad I get extremely confused, if you compare detail and artwork in the armor and facial details in this game to any other mmo I think this ones the best by far.

Well it depends playing on PC or console. Now that I play on PC with an upgraded computer, consoles look so meh where before I thought consoles looked so great. Then seeing the Xbox One X on a monitor instead of my LED TV it looks a lot better but no where near the PC.

So it all comes down to specs and TV/monitor. Also sound system as well. I was shocked when I had the Astro A50 in 7.0 (I think it's called) and noticed all the "little" things as well that I never knew ESO offered.

That said when I got a better laptop and was able to up the settings MY GOD you are so right @seipher09. The DETAIL of the armour and facial expressions can be memorizing sometimes. I am wondering what I am missing if I had an even more powerful PC.

The graphics aren't much better or more detailed than eg. Guild Wars2 has, but the world of eso imho is much more interesting because of specific lore :). Fortunately ESO does not need a powerful newest PC, as my 5-years old i5-3570, GTX660Ti with 8G is more than enough for high details on 27" full hd screen w/grass.
This game is well optimised for pve (not speaking about pvp).
And by the way I bought this PC exclusively to play Skyrim w/graphics mods without issues :).

I give this game hell over many issues but never it's graphics. The game's world looks amazing.

Someone also mentioned the sounds. The ambient sounds and such are top notch too. For the longest time I'd just throw some metal on and play the game. One day I decided to turn off my music and just go with combat and ambient sounds and it was pretty immersive. Give it a shot if you haven't

it has a function to optimize settings for your card.

give it a go, you can always revert if you don't like it.

edit to add: that is it optimizes the settings for this game for your card.

There is a mipmap setting you have to manually change in settings file that will give you mega texture resolution! Only use if you have 4 to 6 GB dedicated vram.

Oh my, it is one hell of an improvement. Google the setting. A “tweak guide” should have it.

Should be useless, it just sets the graphic settings that NVIDIA thinks is suitable for your system. That is not necessarily max. graphic settings, even if your PC could run it. Or in some games it turns on or off some effects that depend just on your personal preferences. If. you have 5 minutes to browse through your graphic settings and test things out you definitely don't need NVIDIA Experience.

    Here we go:
    MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS

Find that and set to -3 value. Yes use the minus sign. Google that for more info. I went from a 2 GB card to a 6 GB card recently. I set that and holy moly. It will blank the texture res setting in your options. So you’ll have to change it manually in settings file.

GAH! With the new ESO update it screwed the nVidia experience up a bit. It's hard for me to use when working properly now it's a PITA but if I can get it working it's awesome.

You can change almost everything. Darkness, brightness, saturation, colour, blurriness, make the game look like it was in the 1920's or vintage. Make it looks sharper or a bit duller. Make it warmer, cooler etc.

Not sure if you went to Morrowind yet but you can see from my pic I posted above, how it looks different from the regular game.

As you see, I can make it how I feel like I should be seeing. It does take time to mess around and fiddle with the settings. Now I can make my environment more "lush" or "harsh" or even darker to my liking.

Just remember that nVidia Experience is in Beta so it has it quirks. Sometimes the settings save, other times they don't and I can't figure out why. So I try and write them down or take a pic on my phone so I have the settings saved.

So much better with it off. With it on the colouring is over-powering and unnatural, while the background is scarcely visible. I appreciate you can tweak it, but with the quality of the first picture why would you want to, at least without demonstrating a superior result from doing so.

These things are always subjective, but it's amazing how every time people come up with what they claim transforms the graphics the "before" always looks so much better to me than the "after". The game looks stunning on high'ish settings with my GTX 960 and no enhancements, addons, or other embellishments.

I have never said the after was better than the before. I have changed the settings after that. I just wanted to show the differences that can be made. Sometimes seeing "subtle" differences people don't see it, but showing a "drastic" change then it's more notable and then people can see what can be done. :)

    *edit*

As for "unnatural" that is what I was trying to go for a more "mystical" feel but didn't work. But I thought it would show a good difference what can be done.

I can and do play the game with everything turned on and 1080p however there are other approaches to graphics(for me anyways).

    1. Play at 1920x1080 everything turned on except DoF, distortion, sunlight ways.

    2. Play at 1920x878 same as above execpt in 1st person for better FoV.

    3. Play at 1138x640 with reshade mod and toggle it on/off. With it off the game looks more video gamey which imo makes the game better for questing(probably because of fog and a more natural blend into the fog(which screens the horizon) and less stress on the eyes)) and turn it on for pvp/dungeons when I want more detail(with the LightDoF turned off everything else default).

If the game world was curved and there were a horizon it would probably look even better otherwise you get bizarre moon surface depth cues.

That is the Nvidia Filters option which still works even though the optimization does not. Press Alt F3 in game to adjust filters. It is based off ReShade functionality but built into Experience. You might need to enable beta features in Experience.
